No but like her voice went from average pop music singer to hitting amazing notes, playing around with her voice, creating new rhythms and sounds and interesting music! It's amazing to see how she was able to grow from average to unique.
I don't think she could do "average" anything if she tried. She's an absolute phenom. Obviously this was very early in her career, but this song is solid as anything. She just gets better and better all of the time.
I want to say a very big thank you to all of you who have supported my music and accepted my sound. It has been a land slide but you all kept supporting me I appreciate you all. @@kimbraleejohnson3588 hi kimbra, ive been a fan of your work for 9 years now. Im stil tierlessly listening to your songs and still discovering some of your unknown songs, this is my first time listening to this song and i really like it. I just want you to know that these songs "cameo lover" "settle down" "two way street" "wondering limbs" "nobody but you" are my treasures.
The song may not be her style or even nearly as good as anything she has done since, but it shows off all that she can do. It has her full range of singing, it has her playing the music, and it shows how gorgeous she is. For an artist, it is a great way to break into the word of music. Now that she is there, she gets to do these amazing songs that have an old school feel to them and can show her off in new and amazing ways. Her looks are second to her singing and both are second to none.
I love this. At first it seemed a little along the lines of standard throw away pop, but as it got into it I was impressed once again. Still, very different from the Vows stuff, but it's excellent. She should make more like this too.
If I'd have seen this video 7 years ago, I'd have said, "This girl is going places." Everything we love in her now is evident in this video - incredible vocal chops, interesting chord changes, switching up the beat, great ad lib at the end, even the lyrics are provocative for a 15 year old. This was a sign of things to come. If it's too tame or mainstream it's only because she's a youngster finding her style. I love it!
Yeah, I think she had to go through this to grow into the artist she is today. Her songs now are pretty complex and sophisticated (structurally mature). But that was the style for the time, and she had to start somewhere. She also might have been paired with a producer that pushed her in this direction. Heh ... actually kinda reminds me of a Natalie Imbruglia inspired track.
+entr0py1 Harmonically, this actually makes sense in the context of her more current work. She's retained her affinity for bIII and bVI chords from this period.
I've seen people easily 20 years her senior in both age and experience try and do this exact thing and fall flat on their face. Glad she decided to create her own version of herself instead of the clearly guided one being created here.
+Yan Américo Uhhm........Accept what? Did I complain somehow? XD I didn't even say anything about their voices or Taylor being better than Kimbra-- .-.
Brava @MrGmanDan... Yea I play piano, guitar and drums too and Kimbra's repetoir is undeniably impressive, as musos i guess we get it. Going to see her at the Palais Wed, should be phenom! I think the basis of the appeal is that in order to be a truly great artist, you lay your soul bare through your art, and Kimbra gives us all of her being. Shes astute, experimental and takes risks. The evolution of her sound is gorgous, Vows is an extremely elegant debut. Viva la kimbra! Oh and KIWI PRIDE!
Thanks for uploading this. Its a sweet song, but plain. What makes this video great is that you can really hear how much her voice has improved. I just love what she has evolved into. He wore a plain gold ring, with her singing scat just blows my mind. I was made to listen to music. Its just blows thru my very soul.

Oh Hell! Would love too! Band I played in, in Hawaii, (Lived there 86-92 and both of my kids were born there on Oahu), We opened 3 nights for Bon Jovi! Paid for my drum set with my cut of the door sales... I saw one of the best there as well, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble with Jimmy Vaughn...needless to say was one of the best encores I've ever seen, Stevie & Jimmy jammin' together!! For like 3 1/2 hours! Too friggin awesome!
It wasn't necessary for you to remove the comment. I totally respect your opinion since this is very different from her actual work, but I still find this very good actually. She's grown now and found her own style, and that is something I absolutely adore about her! No need to thank, it's my pleasure to share the videos with all Kimbra fans! :)
Absolutely. Kimbra I feel like went a different route than Taylor Swift which doesn't catch the attention of most people by default. Taylor hits the same beats and plays it safe for her crowd
I still remember when she first released this in New Zealand. I actually thought that she was an Australian singer. Now today she lives there and is very big! How ironic xD
Well said! I look forward to more of her music in future...I just hope she makes it to Indianapolis, Indiana during her tour for at least one show...Not on her schedule but things change quickly when you're on the big road...I will definitely be there! Chicago is sold out already and so is Columbus, Ohio...damn!
I hear the cautiously negative POP comments (and some not so cautious), and sure she has grown into an amazing artist. But she NAILED the hell out of this style. Her voice, her song, her her her! And writing a grade A POP song isn't as easy as you might think. So "well done" is still well deserved!!
She has a fantastic voice. This is a very good song and video considering this was seven years ago. It's nice to see that she has this musical range, from pop rock to the polished mainstream pop sound that she puts her own style to. It would be interesting to see what a return to this 'style' would be like if she ever did. Again, a really good song from when she was.. fifteen? Wow.
Oh Hellz Yeah! I was in love with Nancy Wilson at the time. I Loved that Grizzly bear/Tears clip! I was like "that's Efn SWEET!" Oh yeah I am all about the eighties...Whitesnake! Iron Maiden! Bangles! Elvis Costello! Green Day! Queensryche!! All that good stuff! Thats my genre and my generation of rock! Oh and I have to mention Motley Crue! Tommy Lee being a big influence on me, even though he's an LA kid he's awesome!
@Phattz08 Bravo! This young lady is definitely going places...I've played drums nearly forty years and I haven't come across a talent as good as Kimbra since Heart recorded their Dog & Butterfly album...Lets hope the fame doesn't get to her head like so many of the pop stars nowadays! The lady is awesome and seems like a sweet personality there as well...And even though her music has changed...it seems that she is sticking to the root of it all...the soul baby!!
i was just autoplay a song at first i didnt watch the vid just listen only i was like"oh did kimbra song just running out? what song is this" then i watch the vid i was like "ok still kimbra song...wait what "
I scored tickets to one of her headline shows in Chicago, October 17th...Small venue, The Metro, 1100 seat capacity, means it will be a special show! Damn! Now I gotta wait all damn summer! :-/ Looking forward to it though...gonna take 3 paid days vacation from work just for this show! Woo Hoo!
dude that part of kimbra never will change 3.22 when she says "take" that is her style , even tho she has changed her music that will for ever remain apart of her singing and phrasing

Wow... this is so different than what she does now. This is standard poppy but she already sings beautifully. But I'm so glad she changed style! More authentic and alternative.
It's amazing to see how much she has changed! This musicvideo pretty much let it self down because of the taylor swift style, but I do still love how you can hear how good her voice was even then!
Nice song - but definitely mainstream and "safe". She has definitely grown as a singer/songwriter in the past few years. Thankfully, she has listened to her own voice and has had people around her to support her journey. She's a wonderful young artist!

Well If it wasn't for this video, I couldn't confim that she is a contralto. lol Although this type of music is run of the mill, I couldn't tell by her album music. She sing so damn well in the mixed voice that I was torn between picking her as dark mezzo soprano and a contralto. But her lower tones carry so much weight. Now I'm relieved to know she is one. That is my favorite voice type for a woman. Not to mention, Kimbra has phenomenal vocal weight control.
This isn't terrible, but rather cookie cutter. I'm glad she went her own way with Vows. She really let her amazing voice take over on the album and just really did her own thing. Kimbra hopefully will have a very long and successful career and I'm looking forward to it!
I prefer this time of her instead of now, too special and too art for many of people might cant understand her music right now. To 15 girl thats amazing already, I dont think there have any bad, she have wonderful voice for a little girl, melody is awesome too. Anyway I really like it.

God! Who would say this sweet girl will become my favourite female singer. It's so weird to see Kimbra a little Alanis.
is it really kimbra? in somebody that i used to know when she turns to face chester her nose is different

I’ve been looking for this song for YEARS!! All I typed in was “old Kimbra songs” 😂😂 tyty
People, RELAX!!!
Look at her- she's a baby when she recorded this. Probably her first video- fantastic for a kid… stop being so critical!
So glad she decided to be her own artist and become the quirky super diva she is today!
I love this. At first it seemed a little along the lines of standard throw away pop, but as it got into it I was impressed once again. Still, very different from the Vows stuff, but it's excellent. She should make more like this too.

Great Artist and great musical talent, right from the start! I just keep coming back to this song.
Well yeah her style has definitely improved since then, but come on guys it's pretty good considering how young she must have been
THE KIMBRA ANGST
wooah, wtf. didn't know this is what she sounded like back then. might have done well in the late 90's early 2000's stateside.
It's like a darker version of Taylor Swift (both sonically and esthetically) lol so funny, but now she's so much better!
+Dakun Cosplay ..I listened to golden echo yesterday and I prefer this. She grew up. Thank the Lorde

OMG... this is really the fantastic Kimbra i've grown to love??? I'm in total disbelief right now...

Yeah, but she was younger at the time. She's improved/matured from then. She's taken a new direction.
I don't know i feel as if her older works where a lot more cheery and good spirited. her later music is perhaps a bit more sadder, still good though.

She was 15
I dont really care if people hate for this song, its actually one of my favorites from her.
Wow!!! Beautiful song!!! Outstanding guitar movements, acoustic to lead follow in!
Keep on singing, love the haters!

Her voice sounds beautiful here.
how was this not made in 1994?
Because she'd have been 4 then.
So pretty , love the hair , so talented . Go kimbra .
I liked this direction but im really glad shes R&B Now!! YOU GO GLENN COCO!!
She has always had such talent. I'm glad she's making it big.

No one is doing what she is atm.
This is way different from her newer stuff! I'm blown away!
Thanks for sharing this! It's such a contrast to what I was finding on her. My comment is not meant as a criticism of her other art. My point is that I very much appreciate that you made it available. She is so soulful here.
OMG! she is SO BEAUTTYFUL
Thats devotion! I like it :D I always duet 'All I Wanna Do' with my flattie lol. Such a poignant, trancendental song... and that voice! I think KJ has the formula down, modern twist on the familiar old favourite, i also love eighties music (being a product of that generation) and she does the throwback real well. Grizzly bear/tears for fears mash up = brilliance!
Loving her earlier music too.this one and simply on my lips... bravo my girl..
AW! Its Kimbra ! ....Beautiful, Its so nice to see what you used to look like.
You've only gotten prettier, and a better voice, even!
Even though this is more mainstream than her current output, it's still a cut above most mainstream female singers today..

Thanks, I love most of her stuff. She is so talented
Wow. This is not even close to what her other music is like and it's still awesome.

It's amazing how much she has transformed!
