    This hydroponic farm at the Martin Luther King Educational Campus in Manhattan, New York was built by the nonprofit Teens For Food Justice. Each week students harvest more than 150 pounds of fresh produce, which then gets served in the school cafeteria.
    Teens For Food Justice’s goal is to promote universal access to affordable, fresh food by training students to become urban farmers in their schools.
    In this One Small Step Lucy visits the hydroponic farm during its official launch event, watch to find out more!

    What about reuse plastic grocery bags ? Like cutting in to strips and crocheting into reusable bags or sleeping mats. That could be a one small step episode. ☺️

    How does aquaponics compare to using soil for indoor greenhouses?

    • @Anonymous-sy7or
      @Anonymous-sy7or 4 роки тому +4

      AquaticIvy it uses less water and less fertiliser, energy and it grows faster and its usually more nutritious and pest and pesticide free

      It’s called hydroponic and it’s actually an intriguing process it. Look it up it’s actually the same if not better than soil, because it uses very little water it’s a non wasteful way of agriculture it’s more modern that’s why there’s not to much public knowledge on it

    • @sweetness6048

      You get to eat fish and you also use 90% less water no pesticides and you don't have to worry about soil born diseases

    I would like some ideas as well for my elementary school. We are in Las Vegas Nevada with CCSD and our school name is Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary. Would like to know where I can get seeds for my small hydroponics farm that are not expensive but will germinate and then grow into healthy veggies.

    This only make sense if you do it in a greenhouse. The energy for lighting requirement makes it unaffordable.
    Unless it’s a school project or it’s in Mars or Iceland. Where there is no options.

      Correction: use a poly tunnel. You will not get a ROI if it’s a glass structure.

      Volunteer work and probably part of their lab hours in science or their school program or curriculum. Japanese students do a lot in their schools as well. I "worked" in an actual credit union at my school as part of our finance and business program in the school and my particular class subject.

      You want real child labor? Go to India, Africa, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and other developing countries. That shoe, chocolate bar, minerals for your phone, clothing, and coffee are the result of children working grueling hours with barely any pay.
      Didn't know you like seeing children suffer abuse.
