Also putting in protective flyers like Glenn Elandra Archmage and Sephara, Sky's Blade. Maybe some token producing enchanments and/or artifact so i don't have to rely on Alela being the only token producer. Card draw enchantments/artifacts like phyrexian arena and rhystic study. I think Alela is my new fav. I run it as enchantress/faerie tribal, and the main strategy is try to get out Enchanted Evening and Serra’s sanctum as early as possible, and dump all the absurd amounts of mana into X spells like Debt to the Deathless, Exsanguinate, or Torment of Hailfire to kill the whole table at once. Using copy enchantment cards like mirrormade and mirage mirror on bitterblossom or anointed procession means this deck can quickly make an absurd amount of tokens in a short time. Another great thing about enchanted evening, if anyone tries to use a board wipe that destroys all enchantments, they risk completely wiping the board, including their own lands. I’ve found the deck to be highly resilient and more importantly, it’s just super fun
Playing a mix of Gods and Bestow, Stoneforge Mystic equipment package, and Tezz tribal. I use Cloud Curio to bounce my permanents, which many are enchantment/artifact creatures hybrid, the moment I create a creature token I can bounce some enchantment/artifact back to my hand to be reused. Cultural Exchange is a secret move after the board has enough tokens.
i used Alela as an "Anthem" tribal deck. Play an anthem that pumps the team and make a fairy. They are immediately at least a 3/2 flyer on the board. and thanks to good charlotte, and their infamous "aAnthem" song, i call the deck,"It's a new Fae." Love this deck so much!!

I have 3 Enchantment Decks and 4 Artifact decks already, yet I find this Commander interesting, most of my existing decks tend to be on the controlling side, so for this one I'm going with Anthem Enchantments only (granting +1/+1 or more) and creating more Tokens and all artifacts be Tribal support or be mana rocks.I think I will end up with to many 4-5 drops and no creatures, but the value commands me!
Enchanter control with a strong token sub theme topping with divine visitation. I've only got Brawl/Standard to work with on Arena atm but it's fun enough.
I ended up going heavy on enchantments and artifacts, especially ones with triggers in upkeep so I could use Paradox Haze to double the effects. Archmage Ascension for the near constant Tutor effect if opponents don't blow it up (Skullclamp + Token = 2 Tutors with Archmage Ascension)
I just bought Isperia before watching this video because I thought it would fit nicely in Alela 😂. I definitely have to check out your other deck tech now
Okay, so I dont have any of the precons yet, curse this college life, but I thought it would be fun to build her into a flyers deck. You have access to Gravitational Shift, and you could play around with artifact critters that fly in order to spawn your fairies. There are also some enchantment flying critters too. I dunno how strong it would be but silly and fun is just as good. Also tempted to go deep into enchantments but thats just because I am always looking for a chance to use Sigil of the Empty Throne.
Thanks Dj... I was considering which brawl deck to pick up between Chulane and Alela but yeah... Alela it is... As enchantress with some artifact synergy
I'm really excited to build Alela. My build is hoping to play curses to tempt opponents to attack each other while waiting behind taxes and pillowfort to make them think I'm not worth it.
I have the Same problem, i dont know how i should play an alela Deck, because of the many options xD My first idea was to go for Artifacts, create a bunch of tokens, then cheat in some really strong Artifacts like Darksteel forge, Bolas's citadell. Just to clarify, cards like Efficient Construction and Sai only trigger Alela when they come in; creating tokens off of them won't trigger her because those tokens aren't being cast.
You missed the errata text on Knowledge Exploitation. It's just after the part about searching your opponents library for an instant or a sorcery card. They added the line: *Shake your head in disgust while you mutter "What is this shit?" before picking out the least worst spell and playing it with a scowl.*
I think the strongest way to build her is draw a ton of cards then play a bunch of artifacts, but I did make as many enchantment artifacts as possible. Enchanted evening, mycosynth lattice, the theros legendary artifacts.
Gonna say, still think the best card for her for any build, except maybe highly competitive because of its casting cost, will be Dire Undercurrents. Turning every artifact and enchantment into draw a card is better than the green enchantress cards you're losing. Plus if you are running an enchantment theme, you do still have access to Mesa Enchantress at least....
I'm still not completely sold on Alela. I just think that the card draw from the other brawl commanders outclasses the board presence that Alela provides
@@Tacklepig I'm inclined to agree (on her not needing draw in her design), however the OP and the topic is about comparing the Brawl commanders (his assessment), in a vacuum (at least I'm assuming so). In the case were taking the decks into account, artifacts are available for everyone, so may as well not consider them in the equation outside of specific synergies. Chulane also has access to blue draw Alela has, while Korvold has access to the green "sac a creature draw x cards equal to its p/t" type deal (obvious synergies here). I think Alela has many things going for her, however in terms of CA the other two simply has the aforementioned on top of CA being stapled into the CZ on them
I went with a Voltron-esque equips build. She excited me more than Syr Gwyn did for an equips deck. This is by no means budget but just where I wanted to put all my equips cards that I've had forever. Great vid DJ! tappedout.net/mtg-decks/a-hail-of-blades/
Why not anthems? I think you could cast a ton of low cost "all you creatures have +1/+1" stuff because it only takes 20 tokens unboosted to kill someone but when boosted the number gets lower and lower
Sword of the Meek doesn't work well with the commander out though. Since it makes the tokens 2/1s, Sword of the Meek won't trigger if the commander is out.
I'm pretty sure they enter the field as 1/1s and sword of the meek sees them as such then once it's full there ( not sure how to word it ) the buff will apply making them 2/1
Rewwgh it won’t make all your casts count towards her effect, but i still think it’s amazing in this deck (I’ve had it built since the day it released.) pairing it with Serra’s sanctum will give you so much white mana you won’t know what to do with it, and I also found it has really good synergy with an old card called Arenson’s Aura (W,sac an enchantment:destroy target permanent). What that means in this deck is that card translates to (W, sac one of Alela’s tokens: destroy whatever you want.) excellent for control or removing any and all threats
So... yeah, Alela is meant to be either stax or esper taxes, throw in smokestack, torpor orb, blind obedience, smothering tithe, rhystic study and more enchantments and artifacts of that kind. Yo tax your opponents, you break symmetry, you get faeries to close out the game. Also on the storm build, if you cant afford all those mana-rocks just go with 0 or 1 mana equipments and artifacts, add an Urza (not cheap but cheaper than all those manarocks) and now you are making mana. Hell, now i want to build both versions.
Don't you lose the bonus of pumping your flying faeries for loading them into the vehicle? Usually a major benefit of vehicles is you get to keep your creatures of the vehicles die, but if they're tokens, they are already low cost, low value right?
@@fuckingimpossible I see what you're saying but it just makes it so you need less tokens to crew the vehicles. If you use generic anthems it pumps the vehicles too. Also if you have so many tokens you can attack with them too. You likely won't need them all to crew vehicles.
Maybe a stupid thing to say, but when I saw Alela I was like "Ok cool, maybe i'll try her", but then I realised Kykar was something and for me, Kykar completely outclasses her. So I'd like to know what other people think: do you prefer Alela or Kykar ? What are the differences that really influenced you into building one or the other ? I guess that the fact Alela has black instead of red can make her more useful but I don't know if she has other things to outshine Kykar in my eyes
I think they're entirely different decks. Kykar feels like a spellslinging/ramp deck trying to play cantrips and counters to get to huge spells quickly. Kykar is basically a storm enabler and payoff in one card. Alela imo is best when you use her for incidental value. You want to be running things like manarocks or O-Rings anyways, and she provides you value when you do it. When looking at synergy, I personally like the faerie tribal route best with her, still keeping those artifacts and enchantments for incidental value of course.
@@Tacklepig But Kykar has the same value as Alela when you use artifacts and enchantments. I can see the point of trying to run her with artifact-creatures but that's it. It may have something to do with the way I built my Kykar deck (mainly a spellslinger/token deck with a few big spells and 2 combos to end long games) but the fact that kykar will probably create more tokens than alela (I think there are more good and cheap isntant and sorceries than echantments and artifacts) combined with a lot of cards in common with a faerie tribal Alela - mainly everything that'll boost flyers gives more value. My Kykar is not even a spirit tribal but I think spirits as a tribe have the same kind of synergies between them than faeries. Trying to summarize: I think Kykar is way more versatile than Alela in terms of deckbuilding and the archetypes they could both run are better represented by Kykar. PS: even as a voltron commander, I think Yennet is a better choice in those colors
There are always so many artifacts decks out there and so many of them are so similar, and most enchantress decks are selesnya it seems to me, so you can do something original if you go that route. Variety is the spice of life, and what makes commander such a great format, feels like a shame to just make her yet another artifact commander.
Personally I just build Faerie tribal with incidental value from her trigger, trying to keep a lot of my draw and removal etc as artifacts/enchantments. You can't sensibly go all-in on just one of her themes, but you can try to mix them all together in a way that makes sense.
Flood of tears, hurkylls recall, retract, all these are auto includes incase of a board wipe you should be able to play stuff again to build that board presence.
@@TheMystcast, I meant more the deck strategy from vintage/legacy. You drop a Monastary Mentor or your commander then a bunch of cheap or free artifacts cast outcome to lift them back up and draw more gas, then recast the same artifacts again... oddly, she builds a lot like the jeskai legend from the commander set this year.

I think Alela has many things going for her, however in terms of CA the other two simply has the aforementioned on top of CA being stapled into the CZ on them
I'd build flyeres for sure
I went with a Voltron-esque equips build. She excited me more than Syr Gwyn did for an equips deck. This is by no means budget but just where I wanted to put all my equips cards that I've had forever. Great vid DJ!

Anthem tribal let's go.
Olaf The Moose I love it. I have her currently as curse tribal, but anthem trial would be amazing and would love to see the deck.
@@GigaLordShinyMudkip1 commanders quarters has a kykar anthem tribal deck if you need some inspiration
I honestly want to build her flying tribal aggro, and then complain when I die to combo.
play rule of law / white layline / aven mindsensor / ashiok, dream render. That should slow down the combo
@@F3A5T Thanks!
Why not anthems? I think you could cast a ton of low cost "all you creatures have +1/+1" stuff because it only takes 20 tokens unboosted to kill someone but when boosted the number gets lower and lower
Archetype of imagination handles the enemy flyer problem
Warlock is the male equivalent of Witch. I can't wait to get an Alela:P
How are there female warlocks in wow then?:/
Sword of the Meek doesn't work well with the commander out though. Since it makes the tokens 2/1s, Sword of the Meek won't trigger if the commander is out.
I'm pretty sure they enter the field as 1/1s and sword of the meek sees them as such then once it's full there ( not sure how to word it ) the buff will apply making them 2/1
Hopefully I worded that the right way
I think I need at least three Alela decks: 1. Precon Brawl deck, 2. Upgraded Brawl deck, 3. Enchantment based Commander deck.
I would probably make an enchantment matters deck, she's in the Daxos colors (and I want more excuses to play Serra's Sanctum)
The Theros gods work great with Alela.
She makes for a pretty strong STAX commander too
Does Enchanted Evening work with this deck? I've been trying to find it a home for a while now.
@@gerardochavez1528 nice dude
Rewwgh I run it with All That Glitters. Pretty sweet!
Notorius throng and knowledge explotation reads only for rogues. If text is bad, mys apologies
I would build her as an enchantress deck and use ashnod's and phyrexian altars to refund some of my Mana and catapult ahead
Eggs, all my removal spells are o-rings and the deck revolves around skullclamp.
people don't invite me to commander night any more
Isperia list link?
Finaly a new home for Hatred
So... yeah, Alela is meant to be either stax or esper taxes, throw in smokestack, torpor orb, blind obedience, smothering tithe, rhystic study and more enchantments and artifacts of that kind.
I want to build her stax(my fav archetype )
No one's going to mention vehicles? With her on the field you're creating the creatures to crew the vehicles.
I'd use Alela and use a LOT of anthems
lots of artifacts. ways to make thopters (sai and such) sword of the meek combo maybe. make infinite fairies and/or thopters and fly over opponents.
Think I would have went the stax route
Fliers. Great deck tech though, as always!
Pliers!
DJ that's what happen when I brew. It turns into stax...
Throw a Brazen Borrower in the mug!
I have a flyers deck with an enchantment theme to make a billion fairies
Share it broh
I will after tonight, going to edh night at my lgs and am gonna test it so will post after then
