- Sitting down at the hotel after the Maggart wet shave, meet up of 2024. Just talking about wet shaving, safety razors, razor blades and this theory came up from Matt over at @RazorEmporium. Now this is just a theory and we did have quite a few drinks when we recorded this video, but he does make good sense in this theory. What do you think?

After 12 years of wet shaving, here's the deal: DE blades are inconsistent, and it's almost to be expected when dealing in fractions of millimeters. You find the perfect blade for your razor, then the next one disappoints. Personna, Lord, Astra, it doesn't matter-they can be amazing or terrible (IN THE SAME RAZOR). It's frustrating. Just when I decide that the Astra Platinum is the best thing ever when paired with an AL13, or a Personna is the best thing ever when paired with a T2, the next shave is shit and we start all over again. Thank-You for the channel. It's great.

Totally agree with this. Some are better than others and may be more consistent, but yeah, it's a toss up sometimes.
I've been charting all my shaves for the past several months., and I've experienced the same frustrations in trying to zero in on the best blade/razor combination. All you can do is go with the flow and find what generally gives the best results.
@@donaldlyons7143they're super cheap. Just toss/recycle blades that don't meet your quality standards.
Probably better to differentiate by country then by brand. Bic is the only one made in Greece, then there's Turkey, India, Russia and what not...

David, today I put a light coating of Leaf Preshave Oil on my new Van der hagen German made de blade. Loaded that new blade in my Rockwell 6c. I used proraso preshave and Muhle sandlewod shave soap. I used the 4plates on the first pass. Then i used the 5 plate on the second pass. I got the smoothest shave.2 pass
I've never tried putting oil on the blade. I generally put the oil on my face. Great tip may have to try it someday.

CPU's are (or at least were) clocked to some frequency based on quality control results. But that's overkill for sub1cent blades. Not sure but brands are more likely assigned based on coating, machinery wear, etc.

Well, I'm bald so facial hair is the only thing that distinguishes me from another bald guy's that I might stand next to. For that reason I'm out.
@@OhioShaves I'm kidding, everyone has their own reasons, I shave on a daily basis and I'd love to grow a beard, but because of the work I do, I can't, but I'm extremely grateful that I came across your clips and got rid of that garbage cartridge razors.

It comes down to the individual plant's QC control and how well they keep their machines running within spec. Any honing machine can make a ton of good blades and also a ton of not-so-good blades. IMHO the Russian plants(St Petersburg) have a better QC program. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the 3 P's. Procedures, Processes, and Personnel, which make a quality product.
Do you work for a manufacturer?
No, I do not, but I do service similar machines that do high-speed stamping of stainless steel flat materials just like razor blades.
