My family loved this show but we remembered it as Fat Julip. No wonder we couldnt find it anywhere. We also loved Maid Marion. i have stuck with Tony Robinson over the years and have seen some wonderful docos he has made.
best show ever... and ive just found this after literally years of trying to remember what this was... my life is almost complete from childhood memories only afew more unknown shows in the depths i must dig up ;) love my life right now!!!
I love this so much! I was 4 when this was on TV, I missed an episode one week because my parents took me away on holiday and I cried! I used to love Maid Marian too, wish Tony Robinson would do more kids stuff.
This show I loved as a kid. My favorite one was the one where Fat Tulip got some socks from Thin Tim and Fat Tulip never washed them and always wore them. Thin Tim stole them in the night because he hated the smell of the socks and Fat Tulip found them buried in the garden. I also loved the one where the frogs tipped the tadpole in Fat Tulip,s drink! :D
Blimey. I remember watching this when I was young. I always enjoyed the ending but I could only remember three of the characters. Fat Tulip, Thin Tim and Lewis Collins the Tortoise. Hope I can find more somewhere.
I do have the episode with Fred the Bady. Unfortunately the transfer from the video was bad and the episode is messed up, I could try a tick it together and upload it.
This show is fantastic! Does it for me! This is more like all the wonderful things that TV *could* be. Nowadays, it seems to lack creativity to a wide degree. And American TV in particular is so boring now with its "reality shows" (more like "reality-is-really-sad-ass shows"). But it's a passing phase (I say optimistically). I got a big kick out of the "salad cream" thing. We don't say that over here. Heeheee
Just loved this series. Thanks for reminding me how good Tony Robinson story telling was.
Tony Robinson IS my childhood, with this and Maid Marian.
fat tulip was my fave kids program, its like gold dust to find episodes...
I always like the simplicity of this format, and the way it makes you use your imagination. You got to know characters that you never saw.
+Siren Hound Especially the camera work in those scenes (such as 1:10).

Thanks for posting this. I forgot this show existed until I saw Tony Robinson on Time Team - it brought back a flood of memories.

Every bit as great at presenting children's programmes as he is at presenting archaeological documentaries.

Lewis Collins the tortoise - to those of you who were little when this was on (I was 15) Lewis Collins was the actor in The Professionals in the 70s
Haha wow remember this after school early 90s i think
Wish I could find the Christmas one with everyone turning up as Aunty Mabel 🤣
Good memories of this show!
I'd have to give kudos for the "point-of-view" camerawork they did in this show as well
I remember watching this as a kid. XD
6:34 LOL The fruit bowl is a plastic ice cream tub, and there's a tub of yogurt amongst the fruit.

Great stuff! Not like the rubbish on kids tv these day. Very clever!
best tv show ever. kids' tv shows these days don't leave anything up to the imagination.
I remember being engrossed by this. such simple stuff too.
Tony Robinson is awsome, as a kid i used to confuse him with Sylvester McCoy and in these clips he reminds me of him a lot
Oh jesus! This is a nostalgia bomb!
Tony Robinson is a genius!
beng1603 Well, I finally gotten around to watching this.
Anyone have the episode with the sheep and table cloth?
I love this show! Why isn't it out on DVD!?
More, more!
man kids' shows sure have changed a lot
Great stuff!
1st time watchin this Brit show. North American kids would have loved this 30 yrs ago. No puppets or cartoons. Just the imagination. Truly fantastic !

lol, he was a bit like baldrick in this. was this before or after blackadder- he looks quite young
Somehow the tomato sandwich part of this episode is funnier when eating a tomato sandwich whilst watching it.
@andy765gtr 1985, the same year Tony was in BLACKADDER II
Uncooked sausage isn’t half bad if you’ve got the stomach for it.
this is better than jackanorey
