Thank you Dr Grande this is a great story. My brother got a African grey parrot much like this one, yet very old. I mentioned to him a parrot that old may have a rough time at his noisy home full of kids. It’s tag said he had lost his owner poor thing. Well my bro won the bid at auction. His wife & children were very happy, they stopped on the way home & got him a huge perch to sit on ,food and everything needed. About 2am the fire alarm went off and everyone woke up & no fire, this went on about every hour until daylight. It was the parrot every time he was lonely or wanted a treat he made the alarm sound. The kid’s suggestion was the former owner must have been hard of hearing. Idk my brother rehomed him because the family wasn’t sleeping well A couple, friends of ours who had a cabin with an open floor plan ,the bird could see his 2 humans at the other side of the cabin at night & the forest out window s all around, he was happy,so he never made the alarm sound again.
It makes my heart happy to hear that the parrot found a home in which it would feel secure and well-attended to, to the full extent it wanted and needed. Your brother did the right thing. It's likely that its former owner was home all day and had little to do other than pampering his/her feathered friend. Going from a home like that to a place where everyone has many other things to pay attention to must have been very confusing and stressful for the bird. (I feel that one of the tragedies in wanting to share a home with these beautiful creatures is that they will VERY OFTEN outlive their owners.)

I don’t know how you could “lay”out the crime and “crack” this case the way you did, without the assistance of Bud, but everything was stated with a straight face, you are so talented! So was Bud🤗♥️💕♥️💕
i have an african grey parrot, they're such smart and social birds! she even makes her own, context-appropriate sentences (with some errors that are understandable given that she learned it solely from context and repetition!), indicating that she has at least some grasp of language, which is part of what makes the species so notable. it's sad that we don't know as much about their behavior in the wild, though, because i think that could give some really good insights into their behavior, and that's before getting into species conservation (they're endangered). they really are tape recorders, do not make any sound that you don't want those birds repeating. edit: posted this before i was done! i feel bad for Marty, and for Bud, and the dog. i can't imagine what it would have been like to have a brain injury where your deteriorating condition leaves you no choice but to trust someone who has a gambling problem with the finances, or what it would be like to be a dog or a parrot (an african grey parrot, no less!) and witness your human be murdered. it's common for pets, especially parrots, *especially* african grey parrots, to have symptoms of mental illness, like depression, anxiety, and even PTSD. these symptoms can often manifest as aggression (especially territorial/protective/defensive), spooking easily, and in parrots (especially african greys), self-mutilating behaviors such as feather plucking. 💔 i wonder how a mental health clinician would go about treating mental health issues in a parrot, or in any other animal for that matter. can't imagine talk therapy would be all that effective, even for african greys.
Your respect for the avian crowd was greatly appreciated by my African Gray Parrot, Felger. It has been my experience that African Grays mimic humans, in the voice of the speaker themselves, but not before the bird has heard a word or phrase repeatedly. For example, Felger was fond of saying, “Hey, Baby, where’s the fire?” in my wife’s voice, but only after dozens of repetitions. He mimicked my cough after a lengthy illness. My point is that this couple had been at each others’ for quite awhile before the murder. Or, perhaps less likely, the parrot became fatigued with the bickering and shot both of them in a moment of weakness.
Very interesting case and great play of words throughout! You are, undoubtedly, exceedingly competent in verbal communication. Happy thanksgiving to Dr. Grande, his family and this channel’s community.🦃🍁🍂🍽

Dr Grande I’ve enjoyed your content for a while. I especially appreciate your dry humor and quick witt. However, I must call horse feathers on this crazy tale of woe. Thanks for the content. You keep makin’ em and I’ll keep watchin’ em.

"...only speculating about what could be happening in a situation like this" - the varying degree of side-eye with every one of these announcements, always makes my day 😄
I have a beautiful but rather temperamental corella who I rescued after she had multiple foster homes. She had serious agression issues and resource guarding and is unable to fly. The biggest problem was she learned to mimic the sounds she encountered in her home of origin which had a lot of DV. The smokers cough and swearing she mimics isn't so bad but she heard things like "ouch, ow, stop! " and some far sadder things and still screeches them when she's stressed. I've had her 11 years and it still happens 😢
Todd keeps pointing out how internet search histories always have searchers related directly to the crime. It’s amazing how many people will google how to commit a crime and then turn around and commit said crime. Is it not common knowledge that your search history will be looked through?
Happy Thanksgiving, again, Dr. G The bird testimony could have been more incriminating, in my opinion. She was unable to control herself. He received $1,100 each month which isn't much money. But, she received over $3,000 each month to take care of him. That's probably more than she ever was paid through employment.
The parrot might have been mimicking people playing tour of duty or something..Glad Bud the parrot wasn’t called to court..As the defense would have ‘pecked’,holes in Buds testimony and ruffled some feathers in the prosecutions case..But the accused got stuffed in the end anyhow and now is doing bird. Thanks Doctor Grande for another great video of a very interesting case.incidentally my mate once ate a parrot..I asked him what it was like and he told me it kept repeating on him..
I remember this news story. It was really sad. I wonder if parrots can have ptsd like symptoms like human do? As the crime was so traumatic, it may have imprinted on the bird. Of course the bird may of just repeated it as like it repeats all things it sees and hears. But it's still very sad.
Yes parrots can display anxiety and PTSD like symptoms. Feather plucking can be seen as an expression of this. Responding in fear to humans or another stimulus of course.
parrots do actually show symptoms of a number of mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. african greys in particular are especially susceptible because they tend to be sensitive birds by nature. it's not uncommon for even well-socialized and well-enriched african greys to develop behaviors such as aggression and feather plucking/self-mutilation from anxiety. they also tend to have very, very strong social/pair-bonding instincts; they will often become bonded to one person, even if the household works collectively to try to discourage this (the bird can view that person as a mate, which can lead to behavioral and hormonal issues such as territorial aggression, frustration, and egg-laying in females, so it's best to at least try to keep the bird from getting the wrong idea!). all in all, i wouldn't be surprised if Bud was traumatized by this. :( thinking of my own african grey while writing this.
Happy turkey day, Dr. Grande!! ❤The fact that people won't pay their bills astounds me. Especially when they have the $ but choose to gamble or shop or whatever. Interesting case, I thought i watched alot of true crime but love that you come up with alot of crimes Ive never heard of. I was born in Grand Rapids and have family in Sand Lake. 😂 There's people capable of homicide everywhere and that's scary. There sure is alot of spouses that kill the other, you're suppose to go through life with them as your best friend, not kill them. 🙄 Thank you for uploading even on Thanksgiving. Youre my fav and most reliable UA-camr out here. ❤❤

You know your guns, Dr Grande, I’m always impressed with your descriptions of firearms, very informative, thank you
Happy thanksgiving to you Dr. Grande! I’m thankful for you!
Well time to hear more about other people's lives that make me seem sane by comparison.
By all means, Dr.
Proceed.
The bird puns are glorious
Yay!! New video! Thank you!! 🙏🏼 Have a happy thanksgiving Dr. Grande! ❤
Missed opportunity to use the phrase "the bird's the word" 😂 I love your jokes and dry sense of humor. We need some levity thrown in, to give comedic relief. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving, Dr. Grande!
the fact Dr. grande can sit here with the most dead-pan poker face, and stoic matter-of-fact tone of voice, to just throw out, pun after pun ! lmao !! that being said this was indeed a very interesting case, and i'm betting they never thought they'd get turned out by a bird. haha
Dr Grande I’ve enjoyed your content for a while. I especially appreciate your dry humor and quick witt. However, I must call horse feathers on this crazy tale of woe. Thanks for the content. You keep makin’ em and I’ll keep watchin’ em.
Great breakdown & analysis again. Thanks Dr G😊💜💜
For those interested, there is a Tales of the Unexpected episode called 'Bird of Prey'. I won't say any more in order not to spoil the ending, but its a great tv episode if you can track it down.
Happy Thanksgiving, Dr. Grande & family! 🦃
Dr. Grande is the king of wordplay.
Super grateful for you Dr. Grande 🙏
Over the years you have become a comforting part of my every day life
It may not have led directly to conviction but that video of the parrot is really compelling
Dr G is amazing….I love the way that you include a little humor in your analysis!!! The “bird” comments….too funny!!! Love your videos!!!!!
Hello Dr.Grande..i love you and your channel. You talk so gently and have a great sense of humor. You are just the best ever. Thank you ❤❤
I'm so glad Andrew and the family came over❤
Glenna got flipped the Bird! lol love the Doc’s sense of humour!!!
Dr. Grande - Thank you for another interesting story & analysis. The play on words was outstanding! Happy Thanksgiving! 👍💜🌵
I love how you explain these cases Dr Grande ❤
Your sense of humor ! 👌 Perfect ! 😂
I remember this case!
Todd keeps pointing out how internet search histories always have searchers related directly to the crime. It’s amazing how many people will google how to commit a crime and then turn around and commit said crime. Is it not common knowledge that your search history will be looked through?
If she planned on suicide she probably didn't think it would matter.
Happy Thanksgiving, again, Dr. G
The bird testimony could have been more incriminating, in my opinion.
She was unable to control herself. He received $1,100 each month which isn't much money. But, she received over $3,000 each month to take care of him. That's probably more than she ever was paid through employment.
Dr. Grande for president 2024!!!
If you said “a birdie told me” it would have been perfect
So many fine bird jokes. I suppose my appreciation indicates that birds of a feather flock together.
Classic Dr. Grande! ! ! So happy this review could allow his dryyyyy comments!
The continuing bird references with the pass-a-lie-detector-test-energy had me rolling 🎸 😅
Okay, the bird puns were on point. 😂
But it's still very sad.
yes, animals can indeed have ptsd, a lot of abused cats, dogs, horses, do have ptsd and extreme anxiety/fears.
Yes parrots can display anxiety and PTSD like symptoms. Feather plucking can be seen as an expression of this. Responding in fear to humans or another stimulus of course.
Yes, they can
Definitely they do. I really feel sorry for that poor dog that had to witness that and live with them. I hope the dog went to a loving family.
parrots do actually show symptoms of a number of mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. african greys in particular are especially susceptible because they tend to be sensitive birds by nature. it's not uncommon for even well-socialized and well-enriched african greys to develop behaviors such as aggression and feather plucking/self-mutilation from anxiety. they also tend to have very, very strong social/pair-bonding instincts; they will often become bonded to one person, even if the household works collectively to try to discourage this (the bird can view that person as a mate, which can lead to behavioral and hormonal issues such as territorial aggression, frustration, and egg-laying in females, so it's best to at least try to keep the bird from getting the wrong idea!).
all in all, i wouldn't be surprised if Bud was traumatized by this.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Dr. Grande. I trust we will see your Christmas decorations soon.
Just listened to this case on Mr. Ballen’s podcast and it left out the fact that Marty was a drug dealer. Thanks for Dr. Grande for filling in a lot of details!
There was a Three Stooges episode where the chief witness was a parrot. "Disorder in the Court"
When Curly takes the stand: "Truth is stranger than fiction, Judgey-Wudgey". Also, watch his hat.
I remember a Colombo episode, vaguely. Remember anything like that?
A classic.
Drop the vernacular!!
Love you Dr grande you are my emotional support on many levels
BRAVO !! Dr Grande does it again !! Love it !
You’re dry wit is hilarious! Great job Dr Grande❤
Lol, your sense of humor is spot on 😊❤
African Greys are so so so smart they are smarter than a 5 year old. There’s no doubt that bird knew exactly what happened. That bird will live with that trauma forever.
Dinosauria don't view death in the same emotional terms as humans.
I wonder if there's anything like "Parropsychology?"
@@aubreyleonae4108there’s been lots of studies done on parrots behaviour and intelligence. It’s pretty interesting stuff.
@@destronia123it still knows something happened. I’ve seen bird grieve before.
@destronia123 They know who feeds, comforts, and entertains them, and losing that person is a loss. That may seem primitive to you, but it's not all that different from humans.
I love the humor Dr grande, sincerely makes me laugh
the dry comedy to these videos makes them that much more interesting and entertaining
You just keep knocking the puns out of the park!
Happy Thanksgiving Dr and Family❤
Brilliant story but sadly, it’s for the birds! Such engaging wit and talent!
Thank you for the smiles 🌵
Hello 👋 good Dr. Grande 😊
Happy Thanksgiving Dr. Grande. Thank you for bringing us this bizarre and interesting story.
This is the perfect post for "turkey" day. Bird is the word.
