this is the best explanation ever. I have looked at countless videos of the right-hand rule and felt like I will never get it right. Then I found this masterpiece. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Thank you, this video helped me out tremendously. I was having trouble finding when a moment was ccw or cw, especially for horizontal components but as soon as you showed the tip of drawing the line of action and recommended moving the force closer to the point of rotation, I had my "aha" moment.
Watching this five years later....the magic has not lost its power..I understood in an instant..I can't thank you enough...may God bless you beyond measure.😊
2 minutes into the vid, I learned more than our 2 hour lesson. Thanks!! Edit: I wanna cry! By the end of the video I really understood the concept of determining directions. This video is a blessing, thank you!
I was actually stuck on this exact problem and couldn't figure out the direction of the moment. Happened to stumble upon this video. Great explanation. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this tips. It really helps me other than the right hand rule method (sometimes I got confuse with that). Thank you very much, Mr. Smith.
Thank you very much Mr. Smith, this is very helpful for me to determine the direction of the momen, sorry for my bad english.. but i just want you to know that this is very helpful.. thank you so much
Even though sir I am in 11th grade, it is a helpful video for me as nothing is given related to determining direction of moment produced in my physics textbook.
Thank you so much Sir. I was stuck on the exact confusion about a min before I bumped into this. Now I'm wondering if you can do one problem that has an unknown force.
Thank you sir. Although I have a question. You said to leave the negative or positive direction later after you got the sum of moments but wouldn't the direction affect the answer? If one component has a negative moment then it would be subtracted instead of added with the other component?
Thank you very much for the video it is very helpful .I would really love to know the author of that book it looks pretty equipped with nice questions for practice
Are force sign standard + up and + right - down and - left. Moment sign of rotation can be assumed? Clockwise + counter - or clockwise - counter clockwise +?
On behalf of everyone who's learned from this...Thank You Mr. Smith

Wonderful to hear that!

7 years later and still great video
I'm an architect graduate and you just saved my life. This made it sooo much easier to understand with the line of action.
I was actually stuck on this exact problem and couldn't figure out the direction of the moment. Happened to stumble upon this video. Great explanation. Thanks!
OH MY GOD! I'm a uni student who's new to forces and this makes a million times more sense to me now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
im learning mechanics it was so hard to get the clockwise or anti clockwise i finally understand it through ur vid ty!
I struggled hard solving these problems. Thanks to your video I'm finally able to understand the concept. Thank you very very much !!!
Thank you so much for this tips. It really helps me other than the right hand rule method (sometimes I got confuse with that). Thank you very much, Mr. Smith.
Love the beam analogy and appreciate the help a ton. I will ace my final in your honor!!!
WOW! Mr.Smith you are the GOAT! 🐐
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Saved me from a year of confusion!
hello mr smith its 2023 and this helped me much,,,Thanks.
Thank you very much Mr. Smith, this is very helpful for me to determine the direction of the momen, sorry for my bad english.. but i just want you to know that this is very helpful.. thank you so much

you’ve actually saved my life
Definitely helped Mr Smith, thank you for your time
this video helps me a lot. i have an activity totally the same in this video. thank you sir
u might be the coolest person alive
This was so helpful thank you so much
Thank you so much Sir. I was stuck on the exact confusion about a min before I bumped into this. Now I'm wondering if you can do one problem that has an unknown force.
Right hand rule is quiet confusing for me. This is better. Thank you sir!
Michel Van Biezen explains right hand rule well
Thanks for the video! I finally understand how it works in detail!!
Thank you so much, this is the only video on direction of moment that made sense to me.
Glad it was helpful!
Lucky have this instruction.thank you so much sir .finally I can understand
This video was a life saver! Thank you so much for the help!
Thank you sir
Its very helpful for me ❤❤❤
You helped me so much thank you Mr.Smith
Thank you, Mr. Smith!
Thank you so muchh I was so stuck on this!!
Glad I could help!
from which book this question is from?
Omg I struggled so much with it. THANK YOU 😀😀
Thank you sir. Although I have a question. You said to leave the negative or positive direction later after you got the sum of moments but wouldn't the direction affect the answer? If one component has a negative moment then it would be subtracted instead of added with the other component?
Please, what is the name of the textbook ?
you got the answer?
Hello mr bevan smith
i need those book when you solve a questions by PDF
and thank you to help me and give me much information
Thank you very much for the video it is very helpful .I would really love to know the author of that book it looks pretty equipped with nice questions for practice
i don't know when to resolve a force can you help me please
How do you find moment at o
thank you so much sir, truly helped me understand this concept.
Finally 😄 I understand this
What if the force is acting along the beam
Really useful
Eeeeeeeeeh thanks very much I failed a moment question and I have just stumbled on this
thank you so much for this, sir!
dude this was very helpful, thank you so much
Are force sign standard + up and + right - down and - left. Moment sign of rotation can be assumed? Clockwise + counter - or clockwise - counter clockwise +?
I think you just assume that either one will be - and the other is +.
What's the name of reference that you use
Engineering Mechanics, Statics: by Hibbeler.
Thanks to explain it in the easiest way.
Thank you so much, it makes sense to me now
Thanks for the help. Great video.
Extremely helpful thank you
Thats quite helpful ,made it easier
Glad it helped :)
Good bless you
Thank you for this video!
thank u mr smith
this really helped me !! thank you so much!!
Are force sign standard + up and + right - down and - left. Moment sign of rotation assumed? Clockwise + counter - or clockwise - counter clockwise +?
@@renjoebertcadornigara7988 counter-clockwise is '+' and clockwise is '-'.
Thank you so much!!
You sir. Are a god
No sir, Jesus is God
But I'm glad it's helping you :)
