The delay makes total sense, you are putting pressure on the unit and load cell when activating them. The delay allows for a moment of stabilization after contact before taring.
It makes sense, but the Acaia scales do this better. They basically keep a running cache of weight measurements, and when you hit the tare button, they tare to the weight that the scale was reading immediately prior to when you hit the button. This allows for instant taring. The tare delay on this scale is probably something you get used to, but it definitely seems annoying.
I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a scale. I have a small one for espresso and a bigger one that fits a Chemex or similar. About $40 all in.
