  • We have all experienced the cycle of trying to eat healthy, then overeating and feeling defeated. In this conversation, we’re talking to Alan Goldhamer about breaking free from food addiction. He explains why we are physically addicted to disease-causing foods, and gives us practical advice on how to live a healthier life.
You’ll hear about Dr. Goldhamer’s background about starting as a chiropractor and then becoming an expert in diet and fasting. In addition to hearing amazing transformations of people’s bodies healing through medically-supervised fasting, you’ll get a better understanding of how our bodies are designed to heal themselves.
In his book, “The Pleasure Trap,” Dr. Goldhamer explains how we evolved in an environment of scarcity where it was difficult to eat enough calories, but today, live in an environment of abundance. That’s why most diseases are caused by dietary excess and overeating.
Once we understand that many foods have chemicals added to them that artificially stimulate dopamine production, it’s easy to see how we can become addicted to these foods that don’t actually fuel our bodies.
Dr. Goldhamer’s advice is to adopt an SOS-free diet; that is, stop eating foods with added salt, oil, and sugar. Instead, he recommends eating natural foods such as fruits, nuts, vegetables, salad, potatoes, rice, and beans. Avoid processed foods altogether.
You’ll hear that to break free from food addiction, you need to stop eating meat, fish, fowl, eggs, dairy product, salt, oil, and sugar.
If you wonder why we think of other foods as “healthy,” Dr. Goldhamer explains that it’s because of marketing. He encourages people to research the adverse effects of Atkins or Keto diets as they are not sustainable for health promotion, even if they are successful for short term weight loss.
He also debunks the myth that all carbs are bad. In fact, we were designed to live predominantly on plant-based complex carbs!
To conclude, Dr. Golhamer encourages us that health results from healthful living which includes diet, sleep, and exercise. Be sure to check out the bonus content where we talk about milk and olive oil!
