    When you are baking chicken in the oven with the pan you are basically seasoning the pan. That's why it looks and still works somewhat like it did when you first started. We purchased the larger pan 3 months ago and used it every day cooking for a family of 6 and it looks nothing like your pan does. In fact after making tonight's dinner the pan is so bad that we are going to throw it away.

      Mine has burned stains in mine and I am on youtube trying to see if there are ideas on how to clean it. I wouldn't ever bake in the oven so your info on baking/seasoning the pan is legit. I bought mine at Costco so I can probably return it. I actually bought 2 sizes, likely will return both.

      Check out Cuban Redneck DIY... He has a hack for cleaning burned on stuff off with basically a buffer and some pads, and WD-40.
      Presumably, once cleaned, it should probably be re-seasoned by rubbing it with oil over the nonstick surface, putting it on 300 in the over for about 20 mins. Taking it out to cool, wiping the excess oil out, and hopefully maybe good to go again? Allegedly, one might need to do this every 3-6 months, or "as needed" when performance degrades and it start sticking?

    I had one of these for a good year and honestly loved it, yes it's a frying pan it will not change your world but it made cooking less miserable with that said I always used oil in the pan. Not much but there was always some regardless and yeah it worked extremely well for what it was, when I split with my ex she took the pan I moved multiple states anyways I wasn't going to take it. I generally try to use one pan for everything I possibly can and this thing did very well.
    Once I finally got here last month I just bought a cheap generic pan and more than anything else it made me miss this pan for sure. I'm pretty tempted to buy another but really want to see if there is any newer options which are better more than anything.
    For the folks considering this I wanna say cheap pans work but they progressively get worse with time tho. The difference between a generic pan and a good one is how well they work in the long run, cheap pans work pretty well when new but they get worse with time this thing always worked well (but I did always use a little oil). If you are the type who refuses to add butter or oil to a pan this may not be your best option it will function but without either it just preforms on park with a "ok" pan which has been oiled.

    There are plenty pans that are non-stick on the market that work very well. Even a well seasoned cast iron does pretty well. The issue I have with Gotham steel pans, especially the larger ones. It takes forever to get the temperature because of the aluminum construction and terrible warping causing any liquids to pool around the perimeter of the pan

    I have had these pans for about a year or so, hoping to add a good set of non-stick cookwear to my kitchen. While initially it seemed to work as you would expect, it seems the finish must have worn off quickly as things started to stick to the pan. Now, even with cooking spray, eggs stick so bad that you have to keep scraping them so they don't stick and burn. It's hard to clean after as you must really scrub with the non-abrasive blue pads to get the residue off the pan. I have never used abrasive pads on these pans, and always give them a wipe with some cooking oil. I think it would have been better to invest in some decent steel pans, rather than waste money on these.

    • @MGmirkin
      @MGmirkin Рік тому

      Re-season it, and try again... Rub oil over the full nonstick surface with your fingers or a paper towel, put in the oven at like 300 deg for about 20 mins. Take out, let cool, wipe any residual oil out. See if nonstick performance is restored? ^_^
      I hear that's one of the secrets? But, don't quote me on it... Unless it works, then quote away... [/sarc] 🤣

      Even though it says no butter or oil needed other then to test that theory I would still use one or the other with something like eggs or veggies or low fat meat. As for frying, it does have a lower heat point then the other brands gatham-500° vs copper chef's 850°. I'm sure it's capable of frying just fine but heat the oil up too much and it will destroy the non stick surface.

    On the eggs, you un-stuck them with the fork before you dumped them on the plate. The Candy, you wiped them from the pan and the commercial dumped them then wiped.
    Always, wipe as soon as you take food out while hot... and that's all I got to say on all that...

      1) Yes, and the eggs "released" as they should on a non-stick.
      2) Or at least warm (you don't want to burn/scald yourself), so it's still pliable, not cooled, dried and completely stuck on. Or, if stuck on when cooled, dod as he did, re-heat it so it melts again (if it's a melty thing), and *then* wipe off while melted / pliable. Generally cold, dried on, hard things don't come off, period. They're generally pretty "bonded" to the surface. But sometimes heating/ melting (if possible) will let it release the bond and come off.
      'Nuff said...

      Some brands mention seasoning, some don't. But it sounds like, from what I'm seeing, it really should probably be done on most of the ceramic non-stick pans, even if it's not listed as the first step [but probably should be], since they all work pretty much the same way and with similar materials... And should probably be re-seasoned every 3-6 months to restore any performance loss. As well as generally treating it properly (not using metal utensils, not putting in dishwasher, etc.)...

    Mine started burning and sticking after 6 months. Hard to clean, certainly can't wipe it clean. And I treated mine carefully. Only used nylon utensils and lower heat. And don't use it every day. For the price I paid I expected it to last a lot longer. Will never buy another one. Will buy a cheaper non stick that lasts just as long.

      I used mine everyday past 2 years they were stil like new until boyfriend scrubed with metal utensil 😔. I only hand washed and used a soft sponge , used plastic coated tongs on mine never damaged it till boyfriend got to them . Oh well. I definitely would recommend them though if well taken care off.

    What? Still no scratch test? Was hoping you'd report on trying to see if it really holds up to a hand mixer initially or repeatedly. That was one of the other major claims that you can't scratch or damage it with metal utensils or a mixer.

    Honestly I don't cook using as extreme methods as is advertised in the commercial LOL. I still put cooking spray in my pan, even though I know I don't have to. But if it's gonna preserve me pan, why wouldn't I? I also do not use a fork to scramble my eggs in the pan or use metal utensils on my pan. I think if you practice care you can get great use from your pans. And for the price you can't beat it.

    • @MGmirkin
      @MGmirkin Рік тому

      A lot of them say NOT to use cooking spray, just a tiny amount of regular oil or butter. I think 'cause some of the cooking sprays have a lower smoke / burn point and may carbonize on the pans, or may have some small amount of flammable propellant, or may have some additional chemicals that maybe slightly abrasive and degrade the surface over time?
      But, yeah, don't do the abusive things they show in the infomercials (which the instructions explicitly advise against [like metal / sharp utensils, etc.])

    Our 9.5” Gotham Steel “non stick” pan is going in the trash along with the grill/skillet. They used to work - been very careful using them but after less than a year and not even used as often as most people, they both stick and we are not even going to give them away.

    • @MGmirkin
      @MGmirkin Рік тому

      Just clean them fully, re-season them, and try again (as long as you haven't scraped / scratched / damaged the surface with abrasives, etc., or totally carbonized things on there). As I understand it, that'll often restore non-stick performance. Seems to be recommended every 3-6 mos, or as needed on many ceramic non-sticks...

I would put this right up there with invention of computer, invention of airplane as invention of the century. 1. You waste little food 2. You can usually clean pan with no water and 1/4 of paper towel.

      To get it to be non-stick again, wipe some vegetable oil in the inside of it well with a paper towel. Put it in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 30 minutes. Take it out, let it cool and watch how well it works then.

    My Gotham Steel skillet sort of still works with eggs… it cleans up easy but it does NOT slide out at all anymore. In fact, it only slid out the very first time I used it. Never again after that. And forget about eggs, try cooking turkey sausage links (Johnsonville, no skins) in that skillet. Sticks every single time, whether or not I use oil or butter. I have to clean it with an SOS pad! I've learned my lesson. I'm getting a Lodge cast iron skillet next time.
