Looks absolutely ideal. I wish I was closer to Scotland to make the most of their laws on wild camping. I am looking to sleep by a lake in the spring so this is really inspiring
Great video and channel mate 👍🏼 thanks for showing off this beautiful country and showing maximum respect to our wilderness. Guys like you are welcome back anytime!

Cheers Stuart. You'll definitely get around both the Carrick forest drive and the Raiders road in a 2wd camper, you'll also find some great places to wild camp along the way. 👍

What can I say, but brilliant, really enjoyed this my friend. It’s right up my street, and I’m thinking of doing a trip here myself in early spring. Cheers Matt, that sounds like a good idea. I've since used drip ties which have worked ok so far in moderate rain, but I haven't encountered torrential rain since the last time I got soaked. I can imagine it rained pretty hard in the jungle! 👍
Fantastic video - Scotland have got their wild camping laws right. I like the well packed back pack - emergency beer right at the top 👍🏼 Thanks for the advice on the hammock - still yet to get out in it and I've had it since December
Cheers mark! I really felt the weight of the beer in my pack 😂. I hope you manage to get out soon with your hammock, it's great fun; although it's not easy trying to find somewhere suitable.
Europe Overland - I'm sure the beers were worth the weight and the wait 👍🏼 Hopefully get out a few times this year for sure - got to have your R&R. Ready for your next video - Saturday mornings are good for me, kids and wife in bed, feet up and a coffee 👍🏼😉

can i start by saying a big thank you for sharing your video with us i go pretty much every where on my motorbike can I reach a camping spot on my bike
I think you could but you'd have to camp near the road most of the time. There are a few gravel roads in that area but they are only open in summer, they are probably your best bet for camping with a motorcycle 👍
Really enjoyed this one! Beautiful scenery You have there in Scotland. Makes me want to go for a weekend hike and spend time in the wild. I will spend the coming weekend with the camper, not bad that either. Your Kajka looked pretty loaded, was that beer all of it 😂😂👌🏻Take care!
I'm looking at doing more camping in Scotland and your video has encouraged me to do just that👍 Great musical accompaniment to this video and it was well edited 👌 Until next adventure atb Taff 🤠👊
Hi David, the backpack is a Fjallraven Kajka 75. It's definitely not the cheapest 75L backpack out there but like most Fjallraven equipment it's incredibly well made, very high quality and extremely durable; I expect it to last at least 20 years. I'll be using it early Feb for a trip up to the Highlands so I'll take the time to do a review 👍.
That’s fantastic thank you mate, I’m a photographer and looking to get out wild camping but need something like this to carry camera equipment and obviously personal kit. Needs to be front opening also which helps loads
Great video there. I spent a long weekend at Loch Doon 3 years ago on an astro wild camp with another astronomy friend. We camped near the castle there, and it was amazing! I'm a new subscriber, too :)
Hi mate. Hope your wet hammock camp didn't out you off. I see this vid is two years old now. I'm guessing by now you've found the use of drip lines for your hammock? They do work. You can put two in line if it's forecast heavy rain.
Hey! Loved this video as I’m just starting to get into wild camping. Any chance of putting me into the direction of the hammock you have used here? Much appreciated 😄. Happy travels!
Hi, I used a DD Frontline hammock in this video, other hammocks have come and gone but I still use this one. Remember to get the under quilt though to keep you warm, happy camping 👍
Really enjoyed that. Shame this corona situation is stopping me from getting to Scotland for some wild camping. Just one question, can you explain what you mean when you talk about stopping the hammock getting wet? How do i stop that? Thanks again, would love to go camping with you! Cheers.
Yeah hopefully this will all be over sooner rather than later so we can all get out again. To stop the hammock getting wet I use 'drip lines'; basically a piece of string tied around the hammock straps which stop water dripping down into the hammock. This guy explains it - 👍 ua-cam.com/video/J1OXNc_JEPc/v-deo.html
@@Adventure-Outdoors ah, thanks! Not that I get a lot of rain here in Catalonia, but I will no doubt get some when I go to Scotland, or the lakes. Thanks again, looking at the TJM stuff now, those fire anchors look amazing. Itching to get out again. Cheers for the Vids and links, isolating has its uses, I suppose. 🙂
Nice, on my doorstep I've roamed those hills and fished the wild lochs all my life. Most probably don't realise but Galloway forest isn't actually a forest it's just a big commercial plantation and a large portion of it isn't even Galloway it's in Ayrshire including Loch doon
You’re lucky to live in the area! I’ve been wanting to fish some of the lochs now for a while but so far I’ve only fished loch Ken whilst canoeing. I bought a fly rod last year so hopefully I’ll get a chance to head back up over the summer. Indeed, the forest is one huge plantation. I’ve noticed the remnants of ancient/old woodland around some of the lochs but there’s not much of it left unfortunately. Thanks for watching 👍.
Ay big lad ... love the hammock set up. .. Do you reckon it would work between two stepladders when I am in "The Fens?" Seriously now .. thank you for once again inspiring me to get out and experience great stuff in our common country. 👍
i was there 3 days ago and totally forgot about the scottish midgies, a load got in my campervan, its safe to say i had the most horrific 4 hrs of my life

Cheers! I was just checking my tyres yesterday, they've got about 36K miles on them and the rear set are wearing slightly quicker than the front so I might swap them around if I get the chance. The tread looks to have been worn by around 50% compared to my new spare tyre. Can't complain really, I reckon they'll be ready for changing at the 50k mark. I'll buy the same again, they've been faultless so far. 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors I cross-swap them app. every 10-15k, as they are unidirectional, which I think is a huge plus for overlanders. Ah well I don't want to hijack this videothread for a tyre discussion...but good choice😉
Great video mate. Glad you left no trace, I wish everyone abode by that principle. By the way, any idea how much your pack weighed with the load out you had here?
Thanks! I'd say the pack was somewhere around the 20kg mark, beer tends to add a fair amount of weight unfortunately 🤣. None of the gear I was using was particularly lightweight either, the Fjallraven Kajka back pack handles the weight incredibly well but it weighs about 4kg empty! 👍
Cheers! Yes there usually is, especially in summer time when the Scottish midge is active. This video was filmed at the end of March so too early for the onslaught of insects. I wouldn't let it put you off though, just be prepared 👍.
Do you mean loch Trool? If so there a couple of places to park, there’s a car park at Bruce’s Stone at the end of the road that runs along the loch. There’s also another just off the road before the loch, next to the old campsite that is now shut. I’ve left the car overnight in both with no problems. If you mean loch Doon then there’s loads of parking by the loch, you’ll easily find a place to leave the car there 👍
Cameron Hay it’s pretty much in the centre of the park. If you drive past the Glentrool visitor centre there are a number of parking options along the road. From there it’s easy to hike along the loch and camp 👍
Ted Winni A few people have asked that! I’m from Sunderland originally, but left about 17 years ago. I did live in Boro for 3 years when I was at university, maybe I picked up the accent?
The first few words of this video just decided my entire future. Im suddenly forced to move out of the city, and I cant decide whether to move to central or north England, or Scotland. I work online, so for me its finding a relatively cheap place to live where I can finally be close to some wild camping locations. Right now in England there is a huge move to stop wild campers, with game keepers and land managers using thermal cameras, social media surveillance, and quads, to try and drive people off the land. I had no idea that wild camping is enshrined in law in Scotland. You just closed the deal. Im moving to Scotland. Dont hate me because Im from London.
I've heard about the issues with wild camping in certain areas of England, it seems to be confined to a few really popular places in the Peak District (to be honest I have some sympathy for the gamekeepers, they aren't dealing with the likes of you or me, but mainly with groups of halfwits carrying 10kg bags of BBQ fuel up onto the moors etc. so they've enforced a blanket rule against wild camping). I've been camping up in the fells in the Lake District quite a bit recently and there's no problems there, I live in North Yorkshire so also get out into the Dales and the moors with no issues either. The problems arise in really popular areas that attract a lot of wild campers, even in Scotland some places are now restricted due to the mess that gets left behind by idiots. If you are willing to walk for a couple of hours and avoid really popular places you'll have no worries here in the north mate, plus it's just a short drive to Scotland 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors Thank you very much for the feedback and information. I think your take on it is very sensible. Im sure it must be quite upsetting when hordes of townies turn up, set dangerous fires and dump rubbish. I was always taught to leave no trace, and damage nothing. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Good luck in the woods.
Under the Scottish Access Code you are allowed to light a fire as long as they are small and kept under control. During prolonged periods of hot weather, campfires are discouraged or sometimes banned though 👍.
There’s nothing greater than waking up in the morning with fog and the majestic sound of the woodpecker.

Great video thanks for sharing! Are there a lot of bugs in Scotland when camping?
Cheers! Yes there usually is, especially in summer time when the Scottish midge is active. This video was filmed at the end of March so too early for the onslaught of insects. I wouldn't let it put you off though, just be prepared 👍.
What was the name and location of the road you were seen driving on in the video? Thanks
Urbanus Saleem it’s called the Carrick forest drive, it should be open again in the spring 👍
I like u vidios im from indonesia 👍
Cheers! 👍
Where did you park overnight at Loch Doon? Me and my friend are thinking of wild camping there for a night but don’t know where to park 🤔
Do you mean loch Trool? If so there a couple of places to park, there’s a car park at Bruce’s Stone at the end of the road that runs along the loch. There’s also another just off the road before the loch, next to the old campsite that is now shut. I’ve left the car overnight in both with no problems. If you mean loch Doon then there’s loads of parking by the loch, you’ll easily find a place to leave the car there 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors we were actually thinking of camping at both of those lochs so that’s really helpful. Thanks so much!!
Did you hear the woodpecker in the background?
Is this in the south or north part? And also drive to and enter the park? If you don’t mint me asking? :)
Cameron Hay it’s pretty much in the centre of the park. If you drive past the Glentrool visitor centre there are a number of parking options along the road. From there it’s easy to hike along the loch and camp 👍
a was with you there till you put the alky stove in the bushbox and theres a firepit next to you .less of the glamping lol
william simpson didn’t really want to get a campfire going just for a morning coffee mate! 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors was only kiddin bud
william simpson you had me questioning myself, maybe I should’ve at least lit a fire in the firebox? 😂
Are ye sure loch doon ? looks like loch trool??
You from the boro ?
Ted Winni A few people have asked that! I’m from Sunderland originally, but left about 17 years ago. I did live in Boro for 3 years when I was at university, maybe I picked up the accent?
Overland and Outdoors definitely sound like it, good vid btw
Some owls....and a couple of birds of prey as well?
nice video👍
Where would you suggest to park car near tool?
There's a car park at the loch, or if you follow the road to the end you can park at Bruces' Stone car park. 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors great , thanks for that 👍 👌
The first few words of this video just decided my entire future.
Is that a fellow Sunderland / Durham accent?
Codhunter0 Aye! From Sunderland originally but left almost 20 years ago 👍.
@@Adventure-Outdoors I thought as much!!! Great videos my friend... Quite inspired by them. 👍
Can you swim in the loch
I guess you could if you wanted to, it's a private loch but I don't think that would make any difference?
Are you allowed to make a camp fire?
Under the Scottish Access Code you are allowed to light a fire as long as they are small and kept under control. During prolonged periods of hot weather, campfires are discouraged or sometimes banned though 👍.
Nice
Where did you park your car?
Theres a few car parks along the road, one at the beginning of the loch and one at the end of the road, near Bruce's stone 👍
Perfect thanks, great content btw 👌
