Another tidbit about Scott Borchetta: she'd been begging him throughout her entire career to let her buy and own her masters. He let her believe that after a certain number of years, he would let her. But when the time came, he changed the deal and wanted her to make 1 new album in exchange for every album she bought back. So, she would have had to make 6 new albums for Big Machine before she would be offered the opportunity to buy back her entire catalogue. And not just her music - her pictures, her HANDWRITING, everything. He owned it all. That was when she left Big Machine. Not long after that, Scott quietly sold Big Machine to Scooter, one of her worst bullies** (footnote on him below) and she didn't find out until it was in the news. Scooter bragged about how he'd "bought Taylor Swift", and Justin Bieber, Kanye, and Scooter trolled her on social media like it was funny. Then Scott publicly tried to make it seem like she knew about the deal the whole time and he'd given her the chance to buy all of her masters, but she had just declined. He ran around "trying to save face" by calling her a liar. Considering how much her music means to her, it was probably one of the worst betrayals she's ever experienced. She considered him a second father, and had gone to him many times about Scooter, so he knew EXACTLY how she felt about him. But you don't have to take my word for it (Reading Rainbow anyone?): taylorswift.tumblr.com/post/185958366550/for-years-i-asked-pleaded-for-a-chance-to-own-my ** Scooter and his wife were besties with Ivanka & Jared (Scooter's wife has since divorced him - see Vigilante Shit👹). He's also been indicted on $200mill fraud charges over his private equity fund. He is human garbage.
Considering you don't have much background info and haven't watched the intros, you're doing a great job interpreting the lyrics. In the intro she said this song describes a divorce of sorts. In her case, it was being betrayed by the head of her former record label who discovered her at age 14, but it could describe any relationship where the people know each other so intimately that they know exactly what will hurt them the most. For her, it was selling her recordings to someone she despised.
Thank you, that really means a lot to me. I've since learned that background but I love the back and forth education after I release my interpretation to viewers. Thanks for supporting the channel!
My Tears Ricochet is about her stolen lullabies and each line of the first chorus was taken from a song from each stolen album!! “i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace) “you’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman) “and if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead) “cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You) “wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay) “look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)
@@nickforell1 not a lot of people do actually. She has a habit of leaving clues and Easter eggs in her music and the fans piece them together to find out the meaning, we are like little detectives. I personally came up with this theory and I have never seen anyone else talk about it but me.
I CAN HEAR NOW WHY SHE IS SO POPULAR, BEAUTIFUL VOICE, BEAUTIFUL LYRICS, I V JUST BECOME A FAN , THANK YOU FOR PLAYING THIS , M A FAN OF YOU NICK AS WELL , NO WORRIES I M NOT A STALKER 😅😅😅😅😅
I forgot to say, Aaron and Jack are not part of her band. This is about her record label, Scott Borchetta selling her first 6 albums, she had been with him since she was around 15 yo, so she was very close to him. Stolen lullabies. The diamond ring is the Fearless album that went Platinum and Diamond.
one of her best songs in general if you ask me. this song is mostly aimed at her old record label Big Machine, which is considered one of the biggest labels today. Taylor was their first and most successful sign. In 2018 Taylor moved into Republic records. Big Machine was sold without her knowing and she lost the rights to all of her first 6 albums. The song compares the loss of trust between her and the previous owners of Big Machine to a divorce.
Yes, especially since Taylor considered Scott Borchetta to be like a fatherfigure to her (he discovered her at her gig at The Bluebird café in Nashville at 15, before the label existed and he wanted her to be his first artist to start the label), they spent 15 years together and she made that label a huge success. It was such a betrayal, and how he was all over the media talking about her and gaslighting her after. Such a horrible man. So glad she is free now. Love this song❤
When I first heard this song, It took on an entirely different meaning for me. I know its related to an ex manager stealing her music and whatnot. But if you listen to the entire song from the perpective a domestic abuse victim that took her own life... its absolutely haunting... My step mom used to be married with her abuser, and it just breaks my heart listening to this since she still struggles with the aftermath...
I have cut off abusive family members and had a similar reaction to the song. That shit stays with you, even after you heal you are still carrying around those scars. I'm sorry you had to experience those things. I hope you are doing well
Death by a thousand cuts is a really great song about trying to move on from a relationship-really concise and touches on how hard it is to be normal and move on after a relationship has ended. Highly recommend.
I love my tears ricochet, It's one of my favorite taylor songs. It was one of my favorites from first listen, and that hasn't changed after listening to folklore over 10 times.
This song is most likely about Scott Borchetta from her old record label. Her old record label was small when she was first signed at 15. As she grew, the record label grew with her success. When she made the decision to change record labels when her contract was up, she was assured by Scott that everything was okay between them. Then she tried to by her first 6 albums (her masters) from them sp she could own them, but Scott not only refused but also sold them to someone else, Scooter Braun (reps Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande...). Taylor had repeatedly told Borchetta in the past that she did not like Scooter and the kind of person he is, but he still sold him her music. Now she's re-recording her first 6 albums and encouraging people to only use/buy/stream her versions. There's a video called "Why Taylor Swift doesn't own her songs" from the channel Insider that explains it further
From TIME magazine, issue dated December 25, 2023: "For building a world of her own that made a place for so many, for spinning her story into a global legend, for helping to bring joy to a society desperately in need of it, Taylor Swift is TIME's 2023 Person of the Year." RogerC 12/23/23
Yes this track 5 is about a relationship that was killed but with her long time old record label mainly aimed at Scott Borchetta whom Taylor was very close. Til Scott sold her first 6 album Masters to someone she despises Scooter Braun(trash loser) The lyric...And when you can't sleep at night(you hear my stolen lullabies) clearly links to that relationship A quick summary why Taylor is re-recording those 6 albums to reclaim ownership under Taylor's Verson Like your vids keep posting
You should really check out ‘Majorie’. It’s about her Grandmother, who used to be an opera singer. She puts some of her vocals on the background track.
I believe this song is about her former record label. You can see, hear and feel her resentment and betrayal towards her former record label's founder, Scott Borchetta in this performance. Taylor was very close to Scott and loved him like family and in 2019 he sold the masters of her back catalog (her first 6 albums) to Scooter Braun (Taylor did NOT like him even before all this) Taylor has had a bitter feud with her ex-label (Big Machine Records) She is re-recording her first 6 albums. She has re-recorded and released 2 so far "Fearless" Taylor’s Version" and "Red Taylor’s Version," 4 more to go! So if you see TV or Taylor’s Version after album names those are the re-recorded albums.

Sounds good I’ll pull them up for the next one
