- worldofwarcraft... - Another follow-up to the Retribution Paladin DPS rundown episodes! This test is done on the PTRs with a 359 epic premade.
Ret pallies have some very exciting changes! The lackluster mastery Hand of Light has been completely reworked. Now, certain abilities (namely, TV, CS, DS) proc extra holy damage on every use. The Hand of Light proc is improved further by Inquisition. You can expect each HoL proc to hit for about 50% of the CS/TV damage, plus or minus a bit depending on your mastery.
The old HoL functionality has been rolled into Divine Purpose. Now, Divine Purpose gives a list of your abilities a 15% chance to proc a free, 3HP finisher of your choice. The old version of Divine Purpose (40% chance to proc some extra HP) is gone.
Lastly, Crusader Strike is buffed from 115% to 135% of weapon damage. However, this change is not reflected on the server just yet, so we have to do some maths to figure out the "real" damage. 135% is 175% after talents which is 17% better than the old figure (149% after talents).
If you assume HoL procs for roughly half of CS, that means it's a 25% buff to HoL/CS combined. These two abilities make up roughly 30% of your total dps. Thus, we can conclude that the CS buff, once it is in place, will give you a 7.5% total increase in dps compared to the test results here. That bumps the results from 13.3k DPS to 14.3k DPS.

Yea thanks. Figured it out a long while back. I currently have a blood DK (lvl85) with HP 132K & growing. It's all based on my gear most especially stamina as you rightly stated. Thanks all the same.
A tip for a more consistent timing on your dps test, use the in-game stopwatch. That way you will not have to worry about potential dps loss due to dots ticking off.
@bademaa22 DoTimer is used for the cooldowns/buff meters.
@xwillx0wnz It's more complicated than fury warrior, unholy DK, combat rogue, sub rogue, balance druid, arcane mage, fire mage, enhance shaman, ele shaman, hunter (any). Anyway, the reason ret is fairly complicated is that you have so many procs coming at you from different angles in addition to your combo point rotation. Plus, you have two cooldowns that each change up your rotation while active, and Inquisition to maintain. It takes practice.
@FindingMeaning TV is pure physical, as is Crusader Strike. HoL is pure holy and procs off of both 100% of the time (talking about the PTR version, of course).

cromar, from what i read exorcism was the highest dps ability we had but b/c it has a 3 sec cast time it is not attractive to use unless you have the art of war proc(or whatever they call it now) so you can insta-cast it. so your surprise should not have been that big. crusader strike is used more often to generate holy power but i have always seen decent numbers from exorcism.

Only use templars verdict when you have 3 holy power...and make sure you have hammer of wrath as #1 priority when wings is up...the extra one you get if you keep it on cd really bumps up your dps
Theory as theory goes, I believe that the Eye for an Eye talent is not as good of a DPS talent as Selfless Healer as the dmg buff can be used when other damage buffs are on cooldown. Also taking into consideration that it makes a decent heal bomb to take a small load off the healer. With the Word of Glory bug fix it'll be better, too. Just my thoughts, I haven't run hard numbers on it but I use the talent.
I havent played this since a little bit after lich king came out, but i gotta say my ret pally back then did sick damage. I would out dps rouges and mages doing dungeons all the time. I was using mostly PVP gear but still did sick damage. I had full mercilless gladiators back when that was the shit. I'm sure shit has changed alot since then though..
@xwillx0wnz i think its a bit more complicated then that. Ret pallies have had to relearn to play about 5 times over wrath and are now made to do so again, i agree it is a simple still but what class isnt? i think this vid is more for demonstration as what to do when 4.0.6 comes out because the play style is changing so much

hey I was wadering if you ever pvp and if you are ever going to do a healer rundown because I would like to see which healer do I need to focus on the most
actually I managed to get my retribution paladin to a steady 14.5k-15k selfbuffed on raiddummies. after I changed my gems around and started to stack strength. the buff is great ofcourse. this will help ret palas alot during fights that interupt my rotation several times during the encounter. but with cds self buffed I reached 20k and ive seen other ret palas beat me with that as well saw a dude floating around 22k with cds and a steady 16k. I dont belive retri palas are as bad as people say

problem with Pallys is they're not very well balanced. They get a TON of tank abilities, a few heals and hardly any dps skills. Basically at lower levels all you have is Judgement, Crusader Strike and your regular attack, oh, and one more that you need 3 holy power to effectively use.

Hey Crommar, could you possibly do a video on how to download/install the ptr. I have played since Vanilla and found it easy to install but since Wotlk, and Cata have come I find myself a little lost and it always ends up in me re downloading the whole game. So if you could do that i would much appreciate it.
@Elpapechoopo Hit or Expertise, but don't go over the 8% hit cap and the 26 expertise cap i think, then go for haste.
@draggsy2 nooo! strength is your core dps stat, you should never replace it for agility because it simply doesn't give as much firepower as your current weapon would :D simple
my ilvl is 359 and when i burn my cooldowns and my special abilities proc i can pull around 25-28k dps.... all i can say is stack mastery and criticle strike
I got the Dotimers addon but im not sure how to make it work the same way yours for my ret. Just wondering if you could make a vid showing how.

Ok how were u able to use gurdian of anchient kings on ret spec?
so i can do 9-10k dps constantly selfbuffed without cooldowns hitting the dummy with my feral druid that only got a ilvl of 339. so 13k with cooldowns seems to be quite underpowered?! and iwas bored playing my ret on lvl 80 to 81 because there are so many times u have nothing to do

Retri pala aint bad at pvp actualy they are 1 of the most useful dps at bgs or arena :)

still feels really slow to get ramped up where DPS is pouring out...compared to my hunter or shadow priest I feel like a slug getting everything running up and then managing it.

Yeah my pally is doing 6-7k dps max and i do as much as i can! like use all my trink cd's and other cd's and i still do terrible dps:( and for that reason i get kicked from za/zg randoms and bwd...
i pull 11k dps in 346 gear on my ret pally is that good?
