Usher was plastered all over the marketing for this movie, when he's barely even in it. It was definitely to appeal to the teeny bopper crowd.
this fact still makes me laugh so much 😂😂
It worked on me lol
They did the same for she’s all that
Scream did the same with Drew Barrymore, so I guess that's what they were going for.
Not a scary movie but, Hustler’s did the same thingn with Cardi B
You know you're in big trouble when the T-1000 is your coach.
Yep, I grew up watching Robert Patrick as the dad in "Bridge to Terabithia", and I only discovered him in "The Terminator" and "The Faculty" years later.
I know! He's so well cast because at this time it was reasonably fresh off T2. He's genuinely intimidating.
Coach Doggett
Nothing will beat that opening with “The Kids Aren’t Alright”
The soundtrack for this one was pretty good. Not iconic like many other movies from this time, but it had some good tunes
AGREED it’s just perfect
My bf put this on a few months ago and I was surprised by how much depth there was. Thanks for this video. And I'll gladly wait for the Thirteen video however long it takes.
I do think Rodriguez was just the perfect director for this as well. He has fun letting his leads be kinda losers. Their imperfections allowed to just be there. Doing dynamic, low key action AND high end bombastic action. And then just having your monsters hiding in plain sight.
The Burke/Zeke thing definitely needed a retooling tho. Sleazy 90's fantasy and all that, but I even think it could have been salvaged. Make the support be about Zeke appreciating someone who did genuinely care about his well being. Like, instead of a wave from the bleachers, have her come to the fence and make sure he's doing his home work and eating right and that kinda stuff. He can act a little annoyed "I got it, I got it...", then just say "thank you for looking out" showing his appreciation. AND NO HORNY. None of it is horny.
that would definitely work especially with zekes mom being out of the picture. make burke a miss honey type, not a hot for teacher type.
Millennials stand up! Usher and Josh drew me to watch but became a classic. & of course it’s up to teenagers to save the damn town…and the world!!!
Yas. The movie that cemented my crush on Clea Duvall 😍 (started with but im a cheerleader duh lol)
Clea Duvall is a goddess 😍
Man, this was one of those movies that kept showing up on cable. This and Disturbing Behavior.
God I love disturbing behavior
With trap coming out I was thinking about how cool Josh Harnett was in this movie and how cool this flick is in general and that got me thinking about disturbing behaviour.
I have always really enjoyed this movie, thanks for pointing out the main reason why - fantastic characters! They’re all so messy, but I hope the best for them anyway. Too many teen horror movies are too lazy to bother.
I watched this as kid and remember loving it, but of course i couldn't appreciate specifically why. I loved this take and will definitely rewatch this soon ❤️
I read the description before I finished the video, and I thought My First Film referred to you, Yhara's first film. And I was like WOOOO HELL YEAH GET IT
lol soon 🤞🏽
Your channel is like therapy for me. Maybe that’s not a good thing, but I don’t cRe
I wanted this video to keep going and going! Was a great analysis. I watched this movie because I heard a lot about it online and like a lot of its influences, but something about it didn't click with me. I think maybe something about the dialogue. I really like how you brought together the themes I was missing and pointed out some really great moments of dialogue form this movie! I definitely want to give it another try with this in mind!
Josh is perfection in everything! He carries H20, The Faculty and everything else too. I love it all. Thank you for this. All the 90s Scream Plus journeys are my loves, including the Heathers/Jawbreakers. All consumed when I was 11-15 years old when I discovered them. (Heathers in 2020) they changed my life and totally my look with fashion and makeup. So truly thank you for these videos!!!! They’re absolutely amazing!!!
Leave those kids alone!
happy birthday Clea DuVall!
Thank you for recognizing and highlighting how brilliant this movie is
You've made so many amazing videos but this is the one closest to my heart. I loved The Faculty and it's so criminally underrated. Thank you.
I love this movie thank you for putting the words to why. I met Josh Hartnett this year and he’s a sweet guy.
God this is genuinely one of my favorite movies
Thank you SO much for this video! I unapologetically LOVE "The Faculty". I watched it at the right time (I was 15-16) and only out of sheer luck because I rented it alongside others during a Blockbuster promo weekend or something. This movie CHANGED me. Stokely is to this day one of my fav goth girls, and the whole reference to other favorites of mine like Breakfast Club and The Thing did not go unnoticed. Also, I had just read (and loved) Heinlein's The Puppet Masters, so the whole thing was right up my alley. What a banger of a film! ☺ 🖤
I absolutely loooovvvvveeee The Faculty!!! It's my favorite out of that 90s boom of teen horror(besides Scream of course).
Awesome double feature with Disturbing Behavior(which was hacked all to hell by the studio, but is still a very entertaining watch).
2:46 Holy moly is that Jon Stewart?? I did a double take
lmao there's so many big names in the teacher roles in this movie. I watched it the other day and I did a double take at Salma Hayek also
And Elijah Wood?!
Great video.❤️ Also unrelated to this movie but I watched your video on The Crow and just wanted to say thank you, since it helped me muster up the courage to watch the movie myself (I always had a weird irrational paranoia towards it because of how the media treated Brandon Lee's passing). The way You talked about his death with such empathy/dignity and respect made me so much more comfortable than other channels that tend to treat as if its some kind of disturbing cursed creepypasta.
Once again thank you so much, i would have maybe otherwise never gotten to see this beautiful movie and Lee's amazing performance
Lol I just watched this movie coincidentally. The one I related to the most was the school nurse. Maybe cause I'm a nurse. You catch literally everything and can't recover because you want to save your sick days for being well.
The annoying thing about that plot line with Zeke and the teacher is that could have been wholesome in another universe. a teacher who saw how smart you were and wanted you to reach your potential but then she's turned into an alien. Rude.
Stokely was goth, not emo. 90s emo was nothing like what gets called emo today.
Girl I missed your content, thanks for being you, I'll be watching now
hello again clea duvall. you are perfect. another good video, thank you!!
i love this movie and it doesn't get it enough credit and i love the quote reel at the end -- needed "he's tweaking let him fucking tweak!" in there too!
And thus began my Josh Hartnett adoration.
I think of a call back to the to the movie where detention happened
I've not seen this movie in over a decade. I liked it when it first came out and when I saw it again years later. May have to put this one on my Halloween watchlist this year.
I loveeeeee the Faculty,, I watched it last year with mom
I love both Josh Hartnett and James Marsden so much
I just watched this movie yesterday with some folks, so this is perfectly timed. THANK YOU!!!
I thought I was the only one who liked this movie... Great soundtrack too!!! Thanx, Yhara!!!
The shooting budget may have been 15 million, but they marketed the heck out of this movie, so it was probably more like 30 million all together.
I hadn’t thought about how Marybeth not necessarily fitting into the teen flick archetype as produced in The Breakfast Club could be the indicator for her as an alien!
I saw this film for the first time this year and loved it. Actually, I pinned Marybeth as the alien at the halfway mark during that classroom confrontation and I remember being genuinely shocked during the drug test when Delilah was exposed. I was like HUH?! and then turns out Marybeth was just the queen :) there were a few signs of it for me, but I just generally never trust a newbie in a horror film.
Great video as always
LOOOOVE this movie so much. everytime I watch it I'm shocked that stokely isn't gay but maybe clea duvall just oozes so much lesbianism that I can't see anything else.
Man, I saw 👀 this movie 👀 🎬 🎞 🎥 back in Havana 🇬🇶 Cuba 🇨🇺 in 1998 📅 This goes hard 👽 👾 👽 👾 👽 👾 👽
I remember first seeing the preview for The Faculty when I borrowed my sister's DVD of The Crow and being so excited to see it that I rented it from Blockbuster the first chance I got. It instantly became one of my favorites. The scene where they're all walking to the car and hear people whispering their names is SO brilliant in establishing paranoia. In that scene you're not quite sure who is whispering because they are aliens and sense the "normal kids" and who's whispering/staring because all these socially different kids are walking together.
I watched this again last year. I hadn’t seen it since it came out. It’s a LITTLE try hard with the cool kid stuff (especially with Zeke’s romantic moments with the teacher) but it’s still effective with the outsiders coming together stuff. I haven’t watched Disturbing Behavior in a LONG time. I remember it’s a take on the stepford wives kinda, but with kids. It’s a shame what happened to Nick Stahl.
I loved (and still love) this movie and convinced my high school Spanish teacher to play it during class. I wanted to be Josh Hartnett’s character, the chain-smoking, Mustang-driving Zeke, soooo bad.
When I was trying to get into horror movies because I liked reading horror novels but wasn't sure if I could deal with films a friend recommended I watch The Faculty. It was the first horror movie I ever watched. Definitely wish I could watch it again for the first time.
I was recommended this by someone who i consider to have the best taste in films, and...they were right, this is good, it has a certain charm, and really connects in a personal way. It is not a great movie, but definitely something I could watch several times and appreciate more and more. Do we get many of these nowadays? Did we ever get many within a few years?
This movie was a favorite for my friends and me in HS. Everyone had their favorite, but I was always a Casey. It wasn't until after HS that I finally stopped trying to hide I was a nerd.
oh my god the gasp i let out after the notification! i love this movie! it has a way of sticking with you, pops up in my head from time to time. the characters and how they are undermining certain tropes in the beginning but end up embodying the tropes after the alien stuff is really interesting and i always felt there was interesting and crunchy stuff to talk about here. cant wait to watch this video
Im so excited everytime you post a new video❤❤ ur truly one of my faves. Thanks girl
Always calling bsck to great memories and adding depth thanks again Yhara
Omggg I just watched this movie for the first time the last week and now you made an analysis on it, perfection✨✨
always enjoy your deep analysis, your work is amazing✨✨
you droped this at the best time! ive never watched it but my favourite horror movie podcast, the horror virgin,is doing an episode on the faculty on monday 😅
The breakfast club that’s what I’m saying is a call back to😊 postmodernism
Okay, but can we talk about how Job Stewart gets stabbed with a pen full of drugs
Watching this as a kid use to scare me so much. The idea of familiar faces having something sinister underneath them bothered me and still does as I got older and as a theme too.
I just rewatch this movie a week ago. Love your channel ❤❤
Wondering what the occasional words in computer voice in the narration represent.
Zeke n the teacher was hot af. I wish famca janson taught at my school!
I remember wanting to see this movie because Usher was on the poster but he was barely in it lol
I appreciate all of the great movie recommendations!
Okay, but be honest: it's ALSO brought to us by tubi
This was filmed in my hometown.
I still have this movie on VHS! ❤😂😅
oh my god i love this movie
What a Nice surprise
YEAHHH NEW VIDEO
In no other industry does a 125% profit margin on a product get looked at ad disappointing. It's ridiculous.
Sorry, tangent, and not at all a contribution to this conversation. It just makes me so mad, because it's why movies all look the same.
I can't believe I never picked this up at the VCR store back in the day, looks right up my alley, being from the generation that saw Scream 1 at the theaters.
Great video! I never knew that Faculty were supposed to be a teen flick like Scream.
ICONIC!!

💗💗💗
Love the analysis! This movie also has a special place in my heart.
💜
Truly a Hidden Gem.
Top media analysis.
❤ this movie
Well said.
phenomenal
Yay !
Wait .. is Faculty the teen version of The World's End? Like how Hunger Games is the white Battle Royale?
More like the teen Invasion of the Body Snatchers
They're all genre movies the faculty and at world's end are both alien invasion/invasion of the body snatchers movie. Hunger games and Battle Royale are deadly game movies like running man, death race 2000 and the condemned.
Outside of kids being forced to kill each other, Hunger Games isn't really anything like Battle Royale. The motivations for pitting the kids against each other is very different. The type of worlds they're set in are as well, which directly impacts the story, with one hyper dystopian and set far in the future within a fiction country/society, while the other is dystopian in concept (kids fighting to the death) but not so much in location or time period compared to the real world. The themes of the film are different, as well as their messages, goals, and scope. The movies really only have one thing in common which isn't entirely unique to either.
you have such a beautiful way of summarizing movies and discussing their themes, especially teen movies.
4th!
Casey is very egg coded
The Faculty is the Animorphs movie we never got
Babe yara dropped😊😊😊
