Victories aren't born on the field. You create them during practice. This race was an example of what this woman did in her running drills. She was such an amazing runner, one of the best in history.
She showed such so much courage being out there in no-woman’s land!! Truly called the fields bluff!!! Amazing footage! A legend showing why she is one of the all-time greatest at this distance and the marathon.
“I heard the crowd roaring and thought it might be because Paula was going to lap me as well,” said O’Sullivan who clocked an Irish record of 30:47.59. “I didn't like losing and not by that distance but there is no way I could have stayed with her.”
I remember this well. It would have been well under 30 mins were it not for the lapped athletes. Extraordinary performances in poor weather conditions.
Having slower runners to chase is an incentive. Gone are the days when lapped runners got out of the way of faster athletes, you used to have to move out so the quicker runners had the inside, not anymore.
Paula Radcliffe is definitely without a doubt not a natural runner. Everything about her movement especially the way her head swings from side to side, and the grimace and I can't breath kind of look tells me that she had work very extremely hard for every second.
no she has bad form but most definitely is a natural runner, she has been running since a young age and not a single person at that level is not a "natural runner"
@@DavidDavid-fp6gv let us just agree that Paula grew to love the pain and grind of running. I can state quite honestly that Paula suffered from masochism or she grew up to love the pain of running. Natural runner no, a masochist yes. That is Paula.
The average person doesn't realise how fast this actually is. They're running at a pace most people couldn't even hit in a sprint. 3:00/km is super fast. Super fast.

Paula Radcliffe is absolutely brilliant and I have watched many of her races on the track, cross country and marathons. This woman is super-human. Just wondering (with complete respect to Paula Radcliffe), is there any reason that she has an abnormal head swing while running? It is more pronounced in later marathon runs?
It’s always telling to watch even these older races that elite WOMEN athletes SLOWED DOWN to run a 71 second lap in a 10,000 meter race. I recall seeing many world class athletes running in road races (including Liz McColgan and Joan Benoit). They were FLYING. The men were even faster. You get no sense of the speed they’re moving at when you see them on video. These athletes are truly amazing.
Always love athletes like Paula, they have no kick so they just have to grind it out and run themselves and everyone else into the ground, takes a lot of guts - Paltrieneri the Italian swim champion is the same
I remember reading somewhere that in addition to a very high V02 max rate, she could also withstand pain at higher levels than most other elite athletes. I guess most of the best in any sport are that way. She was definitely one of the most incredible athletes in the last 50 years.
