I was between the two and ended up going with the X1C combo, and I don't regret it.
    1) The LIDAR has actually worked well for me. I had 1 adhesion issue with an old Monoprice filament I had laying around for *years* and it caught it without my intervention.
    2) The camera quality difference between the X1C and P1S is almost inexcusable, honestly. There's no reason that the P1S should have such a garbage camera...it's *really* bad. Not only is the resolution and quality bad, but the framerate of it is unusable to actually see what the thing is doing. If you don't look at the camera it doesn't matter, but I actually use it regularly enough while printing just to keep an eye on things.
    3) I've had nothing but perfect success with the AMS, including the PLA-CF 250g sample that came with the printer. Multi-color prints have been awesome on this thing, right out of the box. Being able to throw multiple colors directly into the model in Bambu Studio and just letting it run overnight is great.
    4) The difference in the screen is...big. The screen on the P1-series is literally worse than the one I had on my 5 year-old Ender 3 3D. It displays more horizontally, but the refresh-rate and quality of it are just bad. It makes it really hard to use the device, itself, to do things. The screen on the X1C shows exactly what you need easily and quickly, and lets you make changes as-needed at any point, including even switching spools in the AMS live. Anyone getting a P1-series should look into the after-market screens that are coming out to at least be able to do the basics easily without having to use the computer.
    5) I haven't had any issues with the existing build plates, but ya I do use glue sticks (Elmers Purple). I used hairspray on glass for years with my Ender, but this is much more reliable. I do want to buy the gold plate from the P1-series, but so far I haven't found a need. I don't tend to care if the bottom layer has a bit of glue stuck to it...if I need the quality on the bottom I can just plop a raft down and break it off once it's done.
    6) I do agree that the AI bit is probably mostly nonsense. I've seen reviews show it working, but the single failure I've had (that was my own doing, since it was my design) the X1C didn't even notice and would have kept going. Luckily I was watching the camera at the time (remotely), so I stopped it on the subsequent layer, but I wouldn't trust the AI.
That said, all of these are so reliable these days that failures like that should be *incredibly* uncommon.

I've had to create a blacklist for filament from certain manufacturers because the spools don't work with AMS. If there's a filament that I love, but don't like the spool, I re-spool it onto a good spool. The AMS works great when the spools are compatible. It shows a need for standardization. Screw cardboard spools. We need to move to refills. Buy a spool once, refill it forever. That's more green than cardboard.

I'm about to buy an X1C with AMS. I've had an Ender3 V2 for years and modified the hell out of it. I really need the ability to print supports. I also rarely do PLA. I came here looking for a compelling reason not to get the X1C. What you've mentioned here is very good to know, but for me not a compelling reason to change my plans. Thanks very much for the information.

How did hair spray end up with a bent hotend? the 2 are completely unrelated. @1:20
Unless you leveled the bed with the plate off, put the plate on and tried printed without leveling again which is user error not the cool plate.
Lidar has auto calibrations of up to 4 filaments k values and you can lock that in the slicer and as of right now you have object exclusion to delete failing parts to keep the rest going.
Camera is a huge difference. 24fps vs .05fps is the difference between video and a very very slow slideshow
AMS is great for filament redundancy, printing remotely, keeping filament stored and dry. You do not need to touch filament for 4KG worth of printing and you can use up nearly spent spools.
    Look up 14 month review.

I liked my X1C a lot but agree with your experiences totally. In my experience, X1 is the least polished product and a lot of things that could be done better, which are done better with P1 series. With X1, you need to go through a bunch more small troubles to get it to work perfectly. So generally I do really recommend P1 to people.
AMS is a slightly different story - it is affected by environment a lot. For example, I had no trouble with it, and my friend had a lot of trouble. Then we realized that my room is hotter than his (it is my server room), the way I put the printer and the AMS is different from his. After making a few adjustments his AMS works perfectly. Such kind of issue is definitely frustrating. I will still recommend AMS for people that need the features, but I recommend to go without it first.

I got my X1C 6 months ago so the P1S wasn't released yet.
The cool plate is horrible, had to wash the plate after every other print, then apply glue again for even basic prints with PLA.
I got the gold PEI sheet now and it is amazing, never use any glue anymore for pretty much all materials now.
So I basicly had more succes printing without lidar calibration.
I would definitely get a P1S if I had to get one right now, eventho I like the interface features of the X1C it is a costly luxury that could be saved or spend on an (extra) AMS

Do not go for the nice looking printers. Just buy a Prusa printer like MK3s+ or the new MK4. Everthings works the first time, no fuss. You can also have fun building it yourself with a kit version. Software and settings are nearly perfect. It may be a bit too boring for a hobbyist, there are no improvements to be made. Another advantage: good support, spare parts, most of which are printable. (You have to print them out in advance or have a another printer). The MMU2s unit is another story, I got it working after a long time. Hopefully the new one is better.
PLA works only good with Smooth PEI, PETG with Textured PEI and Satin PEI, PC with Satin PEI. I never use glue.
Speed is a bitch. It's like an expresso coffee machine, everything has to be just right, otherwise it won't work. Dimensions are not correct, defects in the most important places and layer adhesion is poor. A brass nozzle works ok, others don't (so no carbon fiber etc.)
