    For cardboard spools, I just break off the sides and slide it onto an empty Bambu spool. That works quite well, except that the Bambu won't auto-detect the filament.

      Double check that the size of the cardboard hole is larger than bambulab’s one BEFORE breaking it :)
      I almost ruined a new cardboard spool that didn’t fit on the bambulab’s empty spool. (I had to print a 2 part spool to save it)

    Great review.. I was an early adopter of 3d printers and over the years have owned many many different brands some good and some just awful. I recently took the plunge on a A1 Mini with AMS to try the technology before possibly getting a bigger Bamboo Machine. To say I have been blown away would be a massive understatement. The printer screams quality immediately apparent by the weight. Within 20 minutes it was put together with the AMS and starting a test print. The quality is incredible in fact I didn't think this sort of quality was possible on an FDM machine. You really need to look extremely closely to stand any chance of possibly seeing a layer line or two. Three months on and it still give that 'wow' reaction every time I use it, totally intuitive, superb quality prints at an incredible speed. The software on my Mac and the iPhone app is just brilliant and for me covers every thing I have so far needed to do. I will be purchasing the P1S next and selling my other printers. They really have produced a winner

    For the extra the p1s is a better buy if you can afford it. The enclosure is nice, gives you a wider variety of filament choices and helps reduce the sound a bit. Plus if you have the ams it allows you to stack it on top and thus frees up desk space for another printer 😂

    another thing that is missing in the video, if I didn't missed it, it's the location for the printer... the P1S can be placed as close to the wall as you want (plus the AMS doesn't take any extra space as you said), the A1 need an allowance behind the printer for the bed to move, it's more "middle of the desk kind of printer more than a printer in the far corner of the desk

    And that's an instant like and subscribe! I've finally decided to get my own printer specifically for printing terrain (Mainly for Middle Earth SBG, Legion and 40k) and I've been guided over to Bambu and was trying to figure out if I really need that $$$ jump from the AI to the P1S.
    And honestly? Being told the conclusion upfront not only saved me mental headspace trying to keep track of the pros and cons to measure them against your conclusion, it actually made me watch through the whole video anyways even though I got what I came for in the first minute because I was enticed and grateful for the respect of the viewers' time!

    bed slingers tend to be slower than core x-y due to bed movement on the y axis. if you have a larger mass or tall part accelerative forces moving your print may cause your part to detach from the bed with excessive acceleration.

    I big down side with the A1 is the bed on the Z axis, and this goes for any printer with such a configuration, having printed for many years with this it can cause issues when print big prints, the constant throwing back and forth, adding in weight with each layer and the extra inertia added, you will notice this with your prints, and to the extreme of the acceleration of the Z axis even throwing your print straight off the bed, especially tall thin prints like vases, and thats where the P1S wins hands down, regardless of all the other features, this one alone is enough to win me over, i feel all printers should now come with the Bed on the Y axis

    I've been a Creality guy for a while but just purchased my first Bambu labs A1 combo kit. I'm going to take a chance with the top mount bracket for the AMS lite. I don't have the space for such a large foot print. I've been printing it in PETG on my K1C. Love my K1C by the way. An amazing printer with outstanding quality and speed. I was all set to pre order the K2 Plus but decided I would wait a while to see if there are any user issues before diving in. The 350mm squared print area is a big sell for me. What the A1 lacks in size it seems to make up for in quality. I look forward to learning the AMS as this will be my first experience with a multi filament system. I do all of my slicing in Orca. So the Bambu studio should be an easy transition. Great video by the way!

    as a newbie who's currently only interested in printing pla, I'm very happy with the A1. That said, if I get into 3d printing in a bigger way, I could see upgrading to the p1s in the future, & give the a1 to a friend or family member. I'd be more tempted if we see a future upgrade to the p1s, particularly a version with the improved user interface & quick change hot end from the a1.

    I was a little worried about not having an enclosure with the A1, but this would go into my computer/music room and I have both an air purifier and dehumidifier running in there on a consistent schedule so I wouldn’t really have to worry about humidity or dust messing with the filament and rest of the machine. I would also revert to closing the air vent and just using my ceiling fan which I believe should help with preventing sudden drafts and temperature changes in the room. I can’t wait til May when they start shipping these out again so I can get one!

  • @SirLANsalot
    @SirLANsalot 5 місяців тому +1

    the major thing is the A1 is going to be slower, due to the nature of a bed slinger. Its also going to take more space because, again, ITS A BED SLINGER. So it commands more space not only AS the printer but also that AMS takes even more space. The P1S/X1C are Core X/Y allowing for higher speeds, because only the print head is moving, also you can play with the settings and speed up the jerk/accel over default. Also that AMS sits on top meaning the form factor of the whole system is only as large as the case it sits in, maybe a bit extra if you print the poop bucket that goes on the side.
    Price, ya the A1 is great for muti color at about half the cost of the P1S. However the P1 will give you better future proofing should your printer needs change or expand (and they will).

    Something else to think about is the VOCs and other stuff that 3D printers expel into the air you breathe, if you're using a 3D printer in a busy room, a P1S might not be a bad extra investment.

    I would have compared the P1P to the A1, as an enclosure just adds a whole new level of usability over open frame.
    The P1 series are also CoreXY and not a bed slinger, which makes a huge difference also. I'd expect a bed slinger to be slower than a CoreXY machine.
    A1 is definitely 1000 times better than an Ender series though. Quite honestly, like cheaper too, by the time you add all the modifcations you have to do to an Ender 3 and still not get close to the quality of Bambu Labs. These days I just want something to work out of the box.

    I decided to get the A1, just because the P1S was quite more expensive and i mostly print Standard Materials. A first Test with ASA went ok on it, but I have it inside a warm room with constant temp. Some things i would miss if I had the P1S, The display is really nice and you dont have to search another device. And the AMS lite is so easy to use with all of my spools, even the thicker ones,250g ones and cardboard ones. A very easy to use and comfortable printer. Will probably wait for a P2S, to get in some years once it has a better display and hopefully a wider AMS like Hydra mod. For the saved money I just got more filament and hardened Nozzles/Gear ;)

      @@GrayScalpMiniaturesThe print bed does get hot enough, the main reason they don't is that enclosing the printer also traps heat around the other electrical components like the main board and PSU, which aren't rated for running above 40-50° for extended periods of time.

      Yeah you can't really go too far wrong with either printer. Just be aware with the A1 there is currently a potential issue with the heat bed cable to watch out for. If it's not there on your machine, then it shouldn't ever be a problem unless you cause it.

  • @Sven2157
    @Sven2157 2 місяці тому

    Your "dig" on the A1 having the filament, on-top of the A1 crossbar, is unfounded, as BL already addresses this as most likely the standard (they give the STL link), and that the machine ALSO ACCOUNTS FOR VIBRATION as it CALIBRATES!

    I am currently coming from an any cubic viper which is a wonderful printer for what it does and I usually only print things at 60 mm per second which is actually probably not even 60 mm per second so I'm hoping that the A1 is light years faster lol Even if it is supposedly a little bit slower than the P1S

    • @Neanderthal75
      @Neanderthal75 7 місяців тому +4

      Trust me, take the word "slower" with a grain of salt. Both printers are lightyears ahead of the 60mm/s bedslingers. I have an Elegoo Neptune 2 from several years ago and whatever that says it takes 8hrs to print, it's usually 2-3hrs on any of the Bambu printers. Probably even faster with more settings tuning. It's very very hard to go back to the slow ones, once you used one of these.

    I'm loving my A1 with it's AMS Lite. I've had it for a week and it's my first printer.
    I've been printing with it non stop. Been using Bambu PLA with the RFID that automatically recognizes sets the filament profile attributes automatically. And it performs flow rate calibrations before each print (optional, but nice and only takes a minute) and does dynamic flowrate calibrations too
    I've just received my first non bambu filament, the Sunlu Silk PLA+ . I'm a little confused though how to set those filaments up for the AMS and slicer. I know i can select simply Generic PLA Silk profile, but I'm not sure how the AMS and printer will know which AMS filament spool correlates to the slicers # 1, 2, 3, 4. I think I'll need to first set those filament profiles in the Bambu Studio device tab, then I'm the prepare tab click on the filament Sync button?
    Did that sound correct? I'm going to try it tonight after work.
    My next printer may be a next gen P2 series whenever those come out, but for now I'd recommend the A1.
    We can find inexpensive tent enclosures on Amazon if we want to print with ABS or Nylon on the A1. A few people on the A1 discord are doing that. The bed goes up to 100c so i think Bambu kinda predicted some would try such filaments in it. Just hold your breath when opening the tent and try not to breath the noxious gasses 😂

    • @stwirth
      @stwirth 7 місяців тому +2

      Its quite easy to set up other filaments. For AMS, just click the + right of filament to add new ones and then just set the type for every material you want. The standard profiles work great, no comparison to my other printers, how easy it is.

    Bambulabs A1 currently displays a recall - do not use - message on the LCD and has a confusing mix of solutions. I bought the unit from the Burnaby Canada office for family from another country. "Industry (manufacturers, importers, sellers) must report health or safety incidents involving a consumer product. This requirement is outlined in Section 14 of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act." Bambulabs have no info in the government product safety data base so they are either ignorant of the law or complicit. They must alert the purchaser and recipient immediately and effect a replacement or immediate refund.

      Hi, looking at possibly a first venture into printing. Was watching the nice open design of the A1. My desire is to print essentially a 9” box with a separate top that can be attached with a hinge. Wall thickness just thick enough to give the box rigidity, so maybe 1/4”.
      The box needs to have a specific shape to fit where it needs to go, and it would be nice to print a logo on the cover in a different color. Does not need surface decorations.
      The part I don’t know is…with a box basically 9” in length, width and depth as well as 1/4” wall thickness, how long would it take to make? The idea would be to make multiples of this piece. As I have no experience I don’t know how long a box like this takes to print. Thanks!

    Great video. So you didn't return your A1 for the recall or was this before the recall? I loved my A1 in spite of the fact my heat bed failed before the recall (not the wire, if just wouldn't heat higher that 36). I returned it via the recall and am patiently await the re-release of the A1. The A1 mini I have as well is working great. I hope they get the new version out in early May, have ample supply and give those of us that returned via the recall priority. If the A1 will only take 1 AMS why are there 2 ports? Lets hope they implement the use of two AMS's at some point via a software update, a hub like the other printers.

    Is there any difference in build area? I've heard that, in the case of the A1, corners of prints with a large contact area with the bed can curl up, meaning you can't really use the whole area of the bed in some cases.

Currently enjoying resin printing but sometimes I wanna print big things now I know they are much faster printers out there before when I was using the ender I never wanted to do anything big because it would take forever and I always thought it would fail at some point. I'm going to be doing custom pc build stuff soon over on my channel so a reliable fdm printer would help out massively.
