Not only is he a remarkable artist, he’s also actually incredible in explaining what he’s doing. You can genuinely learn from his videos. Most MUAs have such a limited explanation for what they’re doing where John goes incredibly in depth. What’s even better is that John is funny, sounds like what I’d assume angels would sound like, very eloquent (with a vocabulary better than a collegiate English professor) and all around enchanting. Part of me is questioning whether or not I believe in immortality because I really think John is immortal.
Holographic means anything with a illuminescent pattern that diffuses light in RAINBOW patterns. That’s not holographic, it’s iridescent, and yes it’s FAKE HOLO Hahah I hope no one gets offended 😅 that’s what Cristine the HOLO queen taught us :P
John, this is honestly one of the most beautiful looks I have seen you create on this channel, surpassing even some of my previous favorites. It is so stunning, yet also refined, with a certain sultry air to it. Every time you added something after the lashes, I was stunned at how such a look could become even more beautiful. And you did it in a way that makes me feel like I could have a go at it with the items already in my collection. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
barbara collins, I am not! I am in the state of Indiana, United States of America. But watching Maclean's videos makes me suddenly feel elegantly verbose... 😹😉
I always save your videos until night time and listen to them as I’m winding down and going to sleep because your voice is soothing and calming- that combined with your genius artistry makes for a lovely end to my day. If anyone can use these “difficult” tones, it’s you.
I absolutely love it and Of course he has assured us that whatever information, given to us, his audience, does not deviate from the highest degree of accuracy!
If he does not by the time you need it, Patrick Starrr has some excellent bridal makeup tutorials! However, I would highly recommend hiring a professional for that special day -- you'll probably spend less for their time + kit fee (if any) than you would buying the necessary products to get the look you want. (Unless you wanted to practice and buy them anyway)
thank you so much for your suggestions! I am always so weary of letting someone paint my face..I feel like they can't work with my features I very often end up taking off the makeup and redoing it myself xDD maybe I'm just really picky
John, I am so glad that you uploaded today. My chronic anxiety is acting up after I dove deep into some very frightening inner truths (in a safe place, thankfully). Now I understand why so many people find your films and your voice calming. Also this look is beautiful. I learn something new every time I watch one of your films, even when I'm watching it for the 5th or 8th time. You are a great talent and you have a good soul.
I really thought I was alone with this. I was in the middle of a full on hyperventilation, panic attack when I somehow came across his video while searching for another video to *try* to calm my nerves and the sound of his voice calmed my brain almost immediately. He truly is amazing.
The greatest lie of this century is to make people believe they have to be cured from anxiety. Anxiety is the same as fear, or pain, is there to tell you that something is happening to you. The same as with anxiety, you need to feel fear and pain in other to get cured of whatever (unless you are about to expire and have some incurable disease causing pointless pain).
This is a smashing look, John! Your new cooler contour is perfect for your coloring. I wear silver somewhere on my eyes almost daily, as it coordinates beautifully with my silver hair. One of my favorite methods is to apply a touch of Chanel's Illusion d'Ombre in the shade Mysterio- just next to my top and bottom lashes, right in the center. It truly makes my eyes so sparkly and inviting.
I think the silver rather suits your eyes. Yes, it's stark against your skin tone, but the pay off makes your eyes look fantastic. Nice job - the subtle silver stripe looks very graphic and artistic - love it.
I'm thrilled that Robert Welsh introduced me to your videos. You are such a pro at explaining what you are doing and how you will accomplish the look. You're an excellent teacher mush like Lisa Eldridge. You look stunning and I learn quite a bit. Thank you for your time and expertise.
This is my all time favorite. I love smokey eyes. Every time I thought he was going to stop, he added something else and became even more beautiful. I have a whole list of items to stalk now.
So glad to be able to sit back & relax to my favorite UA-cam channel & watch this Filum. John your films never disappoint, you always ensure we all enjoy each one of these wonderful filums. Sending much love your way, sweet John. :)
This is my favourite look I've seen thus far of John's. I love everything about it, all of the colours and of course the application of them are just stunning. While watching, I was lamenting the fact that 20 to 25 years ago when I was young, goth and wrinkle free that none of these colours or makeup techniques were around. We had to copy from other goth girls who probably copied from other goth girls who copied a goth girl that had been to London and returned to Australia with new ideas. Unless we spent a fortune on French cosmetics which didn't really have the colours anyway, then we had to use horrible cheap eyeshadow palettes that had no pigment and you'd use all of the black in one application. Rimmel at the time did a wonderful oil based liquid eye liner with the most amazing applicator, but then they didn't have shimmery metallics in blues, purples, blacks or grays. Things really didn't start to change until the late 90s when Urban Decay was finally released and we all died at the stunning colour range and Kevyn Aucoin became our inspiration. Still didn't have highlighters that could outshine the Gods though... So thank you John, for showing me what might've been...I'm just ever so slightly sad!
John, while I was watching this marvelous video I got myself thinking about how awesome it'd be if you had a 1920s or 1930s inspired makeup look on for many reasons, your goth vampire style, skin tone, eyebrows, lips, and so on. Would you consider making such video?
I was excited when you uploaded so early. I usually wait for your films to arrive and lately that has meant a late night on Fridays. Beautiful look as always, thanks to the fae folk for sharing you with us lesser mortals.
I have to admit, though you don't believe the silver to be flattering, that this is one of the most flattering looks I've seen you do thus far. Give me time though, I've just recently found your channel and believe there is so much to learn here. On a different note, you are so soothing to me. I end my day watching one of your videos to relax.
You speak incredibly different than your previous videos from five years ago. I just watched your eyebrow tutorial from then and wow what a difference. You are much more refined and regal in your current videos. You exude class and sophistication in your expertise. Very well done.
You are wonderful! I hope you know that your excellent videos, the humor, the wisdom, and royal accent really brightens the lives of many people. You are loved by your subscribers. Thank you.
I've been waiting for this all day!! I usually save it for Saturday morning to watch whilst I'm eating my breakfast but I've gone and watched it tonight! Fabulous as always John!! Xx
This. Is. STUNNING. I have been searching the past few days for a silver eye look. This is EXACTLY what I wanted! I know a large amount of John's comments are about his expertise but I will reiterate! Such an incredible job explaining, you are certainly an absolute MASTER at your art.
You are...majick. I've been doing this eye look for perhaps twenty five years or more as my eyes are a medium grey/blue, heavy on the grey. Soft, matte black as the base, dark grey blended over and upward/outward, and light grey on the lid and underneath the eyes. Loving the pure silver spotlight on the lid and under the eye. Genius.
I really appreciate the fact that you often use Inglot eyeshadows, which represent a great quality for a reasonable price. Not many youtubers use them, which is a shame. I'll always stand for Inglot, partly because it's a Polish brand (and I'm Polish), partly because of how good some of their products are.
I love iridescent highlight on you John. I would have liked to see a heavier brow on you with this look but of course it is beautiful the way it is. enjoy your night out gorgeous!
Literally one of the best channels if like myself you suffer from Anxiety. I love that with John you don't necessarily need to watch the video to understand what he's doing because he explains everything so eloquently!
Absolutely STUNNING as usual!! As gorgeous as your eyes are with these colors I am in love with your lips! The colors you used for this look are perfect!
Stunning! 😍❤️ I love your articulation and voice...So soothing! My 9 year old son is getting into makeup, and wants to become an MUA when he gets older.
This look was fantastic ... the eyes were glowing with these colours. I so gonna recreate this look on some of my clients, for sure. Great job, yet again xx
Mesmerizing! What I first noticed was the luminous glow on your skin and I was not surprised when you mentioned the "Milkshake" foundation. I think it is very flattering on your skin. Also, silver and gun metal do make your eyes pop. The look is a bit too dark for my old face, but I will definitely play with lighter grey tones. Silver is beautiful, but I fear that shimmering eyeshadows may contain nickel, which I'm highy allergic to. Thank you for this very beautiful film.
I don’t wear make up (maybe I should try it sometime) but I really enjoy watching your videos. I think your tutorials are fascinating to watch as you are so excellent at the process. I love your look, your style and your voice! Your a pleasure to watch John and thousands like me agree! Keep up the good work xxx
wow your eyes look *amazing* and i think those colors really made your blue eyes pop, john! i have brown eyes so i don't like silver but i use purpley-silver and that looks sooo pretty on me! thank you for sharing this tutorial!!!
I enjoy your presentations so much. You are skillful, helpful, and good-natured. I recently introduced your films to my ginger daughter. She was thrilled to find someone with skin as fair as her own giving tips and guidance. Thank you and continued success to you.
This is so striking and gorgeous!! My goodness, it’s simply beautiful! I used to do looks a little similar to this a while ago and now I really feel inspired to revisit the look and update it with some of your techniques. I love it, thank you!! 😍🖤💖
Wow. I have to say. This look is amazing on you!! It makes your eyes look even more stunning and pop more than they already do!! Love it as always. Your a genius
John is my newly-discovered treasure. I'm binge-watching worse than Netflix! Love your fil-ms, John and your looks! You're unique in the most wonderful way!
New subscriber! You're absolutely gorgeous! Such a wonderful teacher. I can't wait for more tutorials. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents with us. God bless. Heidi from the States
Love this look! Can you possibly do a video on the new NYX makeup you bought? I have never bought anything from NYX, and would like to know what products of theirs are the best. Thanks!
I loveeeeeee listening to you !! So soothing voice and soft and I love how you explain in depth all the products and techniques and what they do and what to expect !! Superb !!
Greetings from San Francisco, California...it's been centuries since I've used a silver eyeshadow. Thank you for bringing it back into fashion. You're truly magnificent 🌷
Thank you John for this tutorial! I love the look, so mysterious. But alas, I have more trouble with black than with any other shadow color. I do own gunmetal and dark metallic blue but I can never get it quite right. So dramatic! Maybe I can experiment using your tips and advice and come up with my own dark silvery look because I really like it. Thanks again!
Help!...I can’t get off John’s channel,I’m hypnotised! I’ve got chores to do,but I keep thinking ‘just one more video then I’ll start cleaning up’ 😂 I only discovered John yesterday after watching a Jeffrie Star video & lots of people were recommended a colab so I came to take a look..now I’m hooked!!xxxx
John, I have been binge watching many of your earlier videos and wonder if you would please list all the products and brushes you use beneath your video again, as you used to do.... It makes it so much easier when I want to check back if going to shop for some of the things I see you use...thankyou
“A decade ago, maybe a century ago. I can’t quite remember.” 😂
I love it
I admit, now every time I work on my eyes applying makeup, that I hear a faint voice in my ear saying must achieve seamlessness
Tisiphone2 yes! Lol same. :D
Lol.. Or the 'very fairest of skin tone!' 😊
The best artist I’ve ever seen!!

John is my favorite beauty guru ever. His voice is so calming and he doesn't get into drama ♡♥♡♥♡
I just love your voice. I'd love to listen to a historical novel with you reading. Your looks, of course, are stunning!
That holographic color you added quite literally brought this entire eye look to life! It’s stunning!
Allyson Sixx Costello iridescent. Not holographic. And yes, the name they gave the product is misleading.
Anna K I called it the holographic color because that is the name of it. It’s how John refers to it.
It’s called hologram
Holographic means anything with a illuminescent pattern that diffuses light in RAINBOW patterns.
That’s not holographic, it’s iridescent, and yes it’s FAKE HOLO
Hahah I hope no one gets offended 😅 that’s what Cristine the HOLO queen taught us :P
Allyson Sixx Costello it is a beautiful eyeshadow. I own it & 3-4 other duochrome shades by Top Shop.
I love how effortlessly you remember all those Charles Fox brush numbers.
John, this is honestly one of the most beautiful looks I have seen you create on this channel, surpassing even some of my previous favorites. I JUST CANT GET OVER HOW GORGEOUS THIS LOOK IS !!!!
John, please....please come back. I miss your expertise so badly.
My favorite eye look you've done. Gray tones are stunning on you, much more so than warm tones. Perfection.
Holy shit I can feel my brain cells increase.
My favorite part of every video is at the end when you tell us to "take care".... It sounds so genuinely caring.
Absolutely stunning! And I think this look goes beautifully with blue and blue-gray eyes.
Very useful lord Maclean
Absolute Artistry! The silver and ice blue accents on top of the grey and black......GENIUS!
I've always resisted using silver because misapplied, it looks cheap. This looks stunning. Well done, M'Lord.

John, while I was watching this marvelous video I got myself thinking about how awesome it'd be if you had a 1920s or 1930s inspired makeup look on for many reasons, your goth vampire style, skin tone, eyebrows, lips, and so on. Would you consider making such video?

I love watching you demonstrate your technique and explaining color.
I love You! I love your voice. And I love how you are explaining every tiny detail so anyone can understand and do it on this own

Absolutely STUNNING as usual!! As gorgeous as your eyes are with these colors I am in love with your lips! The colors you used for this look are perfect!
Stunning! 😍❤️
I love your articulation and voice...So soothing! My 9 year old son is getting into makeup, and wants to become an MUA when he gets older.

Dru Champion-Payne, ah I also have brown eyes -- I might also try to use a purple-silver pigment when I attempt to recreate this tutorial!
With your brown eyes do the same technique with chocolate shadows and gold...🌹
I enjoy your presentations so much. You are skillful, helpful, and good-natured. I recently introduced your films to my ginger daughter. She was thrilled to find someone with skin as fair as her own giving tips and guidance. Thank you and continued success to you.
