Rainbow S19E13 (1987) - FULL EPISODE

- Bits and Pieces. Geoffrey's been to an arts and crafts fair, and George, Zippy and Bungle are so taken by the idea that they decide to hold their own for Rod, Jane and Freddy. First, though, they're going to have to get creative with whatever materials they have lying around. This episode was originally broadcast on Friday, 27th November, 1987.
I always loved Rainbow, and this is a nice reminder of simpler times, with our friends making collages, necklaces, model vans, and all sorts out of paper plates, egg cartons, Smarties tubes etc. etc. - plus I did get a bit of a giggle out of the concept of a puppet making a puppet. Needless to say, there's also a very nice musical interlude from children's televisions favourite love triangle. Genuinely wonderful stuff all round.
Many thanks to Lee for providing this recording.

Just came to pay my respects to Geoffrey Hayes. He always seemed like a very nice humble man. God bless.
didn't have an easy job looking after that lot
I am 42 I still like to watch as it brings back my childhood memories 😊
Me too. Jane Tucker was hot and Geoffrey Haynes inspired Paul Weller's hairstyle. Fancy a shag?
Same! 42 in April and still watching rainbow!
46 and still watching for the childhood memories.
Same😂❤
Getting a little choked up this program was my escape from a chaotic household l would sit arms length away from the telly pretending I lived with them.
I hope Geoffrey knew just how much joy he brought to many of our lives may he RIP if there really is a place called heaven you better believe he's there sitting with Mr Roger's have a chitchat with zippy 🤐 and George too
Your comment really moved me! It’s nice to know you were able to temporarily escape into a happier world with Zippy, George, Bungle & Geoffrey
You're not alone, totally get what you're on about.

I’am very upset at the passing of Geoffrey Hayes who died today and what a terrific guy , who made many of us happy growing growing up in 70’s watching Rainbow with Geoffrey and Zippy and George with Bungle .
God Bless and R.I.P Geoffrey Hayes you’ll be greatly missed by young and old everywhere .
Code-Name- Agent-00790 was Rainbow on in the 70s then!?! I was born in 1980 and remember watching this as a kid, I'll never forget this, Fraggle Rock, Trap Door and Grange Hill! Ahhh I'd love to be a kid sat eating my tea watching children's tv after school again! 😂👌🏻
@@markwheeler4245 rainbow tv started in 1972 and ended sadly in 1997 so best part of 25 years
I'll miss Geoffrey for sure even if i unfortunate to be born in the crap generation which is 2001
historic Midlands Enjoy ur youth mate before you know it ur a middle aged man with the mind of a teenager still. Lol
@@markwheeler4245 I'll try to enjoy but with the crap going on in 2019 it will be hard to, even though I'm 18 I've got the mind of a 50-60year old in some aspects
This is what a real childhood is all about, loved watching this as a child makes me smile
Rainbow, Playdays, and Sesame Street: such lovely, wholesome programmes to grow up to.
yep no CGI . wonderful erstwhile days
Best days back then
I’m nearly 20 and I remember watching this, The Clangers and Bagpuss before they shut NickJr off for the night. George will always be a personal favourite 😊.
Yes Ms Ward, George was a nice puppet. Zippy on the other hand was a bastard.
lol well, I'm over fifty and I used to watch zippy and the gang when I was just a nipper. When you reach fifty you will understand :-)
I'm 46 and remember watching this as a kid and I loved zippy he was so funny 😆 and me laugh so much as he was really cheeky 😆 🤣
Yes! I used to love to watch Nick Jr at night when these shows came on. Shame they don't do it anymore
I'm in my 40's I watched this as a kid Rainbow, Sooty & Sweep, Bazil Brush and Vision On were my Favourite TV shows as a kid in NZ.
Im nearly 50 and remember watching this in my younger yrs . Loved Zippy and Bungle . Those were the days !
Thanks for uploading these . Really cheers me up . Reminds me of when all my family were OK and together . God bless you
You're very welcome - the whole reason I do what I do is to bring back happy memories. :-)
love this comment same here xx
I love the end theme, in fact when I die and my coffin drops down into the furnace, I want Geoffrey, Bungle, Zippy and George shouting 'Goodbye' the theme tune starts and I'm off then everyone can go for a massive piss up to remember me...that will be just perfect!!
Generation is now being passed on to my kids they love what we used to watch ❤
I'm 37 used to watch this in the 80s as a kid what I would do to go back no worries or stress when rainbow was on.
It was brilliant mate. 👌
The best times were back then.
Ride that rainbow mate New Zealand salutes you. Kiwi kids grew up on rainbow thanks for being with us 😎👍❤️
G'day sport
Brilliant. It's like therapy. Thank you for uploading.
RIP Geoffrey mate, for some reason Rainbow popped in my head so I thought I'd watch an episode, brings back the fun carefree days of being a youngling. The way George says Goodbye cracks me up!😂
Same and when zippy calls George by Georgie porgie and when he usually in other episodes calls bungle, bungle bons
Innocent times. Fun, gentle, a hint educational.
Simpler and happier times.
Rip Mr Hayes, made my childhood so happy practically this was the only thing I looked forward to thank u so much god bless ur golden heart and soul sir u are sorely missed 😢😢🙏🙌❤️
Watching Rainbow again brings back many happy memories. R.I.P Geoffrey Hayes.
rip geoffrey,my childhood was all about watching rainbow, and i loved it
God bless you Geoffrey and your family.
Thank you so much for making my tv childhood a special time.
RIP my friend.
I will forever miss you
God bless you Geoffrey Hayes, I loved rainbow when I was a kid, thanks for the memories 🙏🏾
R.I.P Geoffrey
Never figured out if George was a man or a woman...
I've grown up with this thanks to my parents! We have a DVD of it
Coming home from junior school for lunch and sitting down to watch this was routine for me. George the pink hippo was delicious. Happy days indeed 🤗
George always reminds me of my slightly camp grandad
👏👏👏👏 what a fab memory
Rainbow, The Sullivans then the ITN News at One. Classic.
The Sullivan's......I'd forgotten about that series, many memories of my Mum and me watching that, thanks for reigniting special times, normal and routine at the time but now, I hold very dear .
Rip Geoffery watched this as kid sad he has passed away
RIP Geoffrey! You were a big part of my childhood growing up in the amazing 80s. I am 43 years old now and very saddened to see such a sweet natured gentleman pass away. This with all its funny characters was entertaining and educational. But above all made many people happy.
Absolutely true there, even me and im only 18 but still have a collection of zippy puppets in different sizes and 2 rainbow annuals plus a George plushie toy
Are you from the apprentice?
Part of my childhood gone.
Even though we know from an early age we're not eternal, it's still hard getting older and coming to terms with the evaporation of the past,. Rest in peace.
Zippy's still alive, mate. Dry your eyes.
I seriously never noticed that Zippy and George only have one arm each.
Because the puppeteers are using their other hand for the mouth... Swedish Chef has always been dual puppeteers
School lunch break watching rainbow ( I lived over the road from school ) and eating cornflakes for lunch..😂
Haha - I also lived barely 30 seconds from my school gate for a bit, so can very much relate. :-)
When kids shows were actually fun to watch 😊
I got to met Geoffrey Hayes in the Summer of 1987. When he came to the Littleport fair near Ely where me and my family lived.
Apparently he was a really nice guy. Was he there with the whole Rainbow crew, or was it just a random chance meeting?
Why the heck am I watching this at 15.05 on a Thursday afternoon?! Purely because there's chuff all else on TV, 300 channels on Sky and there's nowt on! Eh?
I watch this with my girls, they think it's hilarious! Especially the one where zippy gets the measles. I used to watch it when I was little.
I was born in 1991 and still remember Rainbow. My parents recorded a lot of them on VHS and I loved them so much. Huge part of my childhood. I'm sad it's hard to find episodes online, I'd love to show them to my little girl.
You're right - there are hundreds of episodes of Rainbow never likely to see the light of day again, and it's a crying shame. Here are the ones on my channel: www.youtube.com/@VideotapeFTW/search?query=rainbow
(On the off chance you've still got the VHS tape your parents recorded, I'll help you get the episodes digitised if you like.)
I watched this along with magic roundabout growing up along with the magic roundabout and now ive just got a lot of nostalgia
Just the absolute business!!!! - Rainbow was and always will be boss!!!
I used to love this programme. I once did an impersonation of zippy in front of teachers and kids at a school trip we had when I was about 10. Went down very well actually, if I recall 😂
So sad about Geoffrey Hayes pasing a down to earth genuine man who made so many children and adults smile for over twenty years. R I P Geoffrey
Just paying my respects to Jane Tucker. Looking good you saucy mare!
Geoff defo smashed 😉🤣👍
Rip geoffrey.....loved this show as kid growing on the 80s. Innocent fun.
Thank you guys for making my childhood great ;)❤
It's very sweet, but I do also enjoy how much George and Zippy sound like drunk toffs
Thanks so much for uploading this to UA-cam videotapeftw this is brilliant I absolutely love Rainbow.
im happy to say that even though im terning 16, i used to watch this when i was little in the 2000s, and my dad used to watch it when he was little in the 80s. we now shere fond memorys of meny 80s shows like HE-MAN, MR BEN, THUNDERCATS, ROUND THE BEND, and DRAGONS EYE.
Loved this back in the day 🌈
People actually dislike this golden show smh
Yep, included my dad
Bungle: "Oh look, George has gone out."
Zippy: "Well let's put more petrol on him."
I love how he went to the craft fair on his own and left all the kids at home, and then came home and had to answer all their questions instead of just taking them.
I love how Geoffrey finally gets a few minutes to himself away from the chaos, and of all the things he could do with his spare time, he's so innocent he spends it at a craft fair.
No Jane was looking after them and taking care of them while Geoffrey went out to the craft fair.
I wouldn't take that lot to a craft fair. It would be carnage! Geoffrey did good.
Fun Fact: Roy Skelton also voiced the Daleks.
Ahh happy memories! Thanks for that!
Rest in Peace Geoffrey. Loved watching Rainbow though Bungle was a bit scary I loved George lol!
I worked at Thames Euston and once walked down Tottenham Court Road after closing time wearing Bungles head.
I once had my photo taken with Bungle, Zippy and George, as an adult! Zippo’s head is not at all soft.
I wish they would put rainbow back on the TV l would buy a TV licence to be able to watch zippy and George bungle rod Jane and Freddy
Would never be same without the original puppeteers and original voice cast and rod Jane and freddy are about 60 or 70 now I believe
@@lukejohn1277 And today children Rod Jane and Freddy will teach you a new word "menage a trois" lol well my joke turns out truth is stranger
than fiction as i only found this out now that when this episode was made
Rod and Jane had been married and divorced years and she was with Freddy(he had an affair with her when he was married) and after 30 years together they got married in 2016 both are 71yrs old.As far as i know Rod is still alive 72/73yrs old.
5:47 Zippy almost said Bungle, then quickly corrected himself, lol. It's little imperfections like that which make these older shows so charming.
same guy doing both voices.. I'm reading the book right now. it's great
My kids watch rainbow. It's quite educational & Geoffrey seemed so bloody nice.
Zippy is always tying to steal every scene, Mugging to the camera, pulling faces , hand up hand down..I swear there's bit of method acting as well
I'm 26 and still love this show ☺️🥺
When I’m sad I go and watch rainbow because of Zippy he got me like 😂 and .R.I.P. Geoffrey hope he has a good life in heaven and all the characters are so bright and never give up and always are kind to each other but sometimes Zippy has a bit of sass or attitude one of the two but he is so funny I love this show I wish they could make more x x
Awe such happy memories from my childhood loved Rainbow ❤❤
Birthday soon my last hit of nostalgia before getting old 😂
A little taste of childhood nostalgia 🙂
"Ooooo we'll have a wonderful time so good idea Bungle let's do it..." "Ooooo! Thank goodnes for that!"
I'm 13 and remember this episode sk vividly omg
RIP Geoffrey Hayes! U will be missed :(
Haha, I was still watching this at 25 years old. Thanks
Watching this at 9 and my condolences for Geoffrey 😭
Such a wonderful show, fond memories of watching this as a child, zippy was my personal fav😅 I think he’s hilarious🤣
great programme from back in the day ! 😊
Bits an pieces, Bits and pieces...😂
Paint the whole world with the rainbow 🌈
Yeah loved all kids shows back then 😀
Rainbow is brilliant, thankyou so much,Stray1 Britain’s best Unknown stuntman that never was,
Not sure how I got here but what a lovely program this was, I come across rainbow annuals a car boots occasionally but I've never actually watched it before (being about 20 years too young) but it's weirdly engaging and nostalgic xP
Poor George he's so funny . Zippy should have gone of he behaved himself . Geoffrey got some lovely gifts for everyone
When i was a kid, you could make a space shuttle out of copydex, sticky back plastic and Fairy Liquid bottles (might need the odd coat hanger).
First jazz guitar jam I ever heard in my life was the closing instrumental music from Rainbow.
You should listen to the whole piece - it's got an extra almost psychedelic section in the middle: ua-cam.com/video/RJsaujSs7Fw/v-deo.html
@@VideotapeFTW Thank you....the ironic thing is that when I was a child I didn't see any colours as I was watching on 405 lines VHF
nick jr classic WENT OFF!!!
Watched every one at primary school 70s
Jane Tucker, daughter of Rex Tucker who helped create Doctor who in 1963.
Can't believe I never knew that connection!
Geoffrey was a ringer for David icke lol
I used to love watching rainbow when I was a kid always laughed at zippy teasing bungle I have to say I actually quit upset when I heard about poor Geoffrey Hayes passing away one of life's good guys
A puppet... Making a puppet... Puppetception.
So so nostalgic wow
yes happy times!! thankyou geoffrey!!! r.i.p and god bless .
Such a GROOVY show,
one of my earliest childhood memories and ive been watching a few clips and seeing how fkn dirty it was lmao
I watched this in the late 70s
Zippy and Bungle in the Jungle having a cup of sprout. Zippy blew off, his willy shot off, and landed in Bungle's mouth.
Not as good as the "Bungle flying high" one.
This made my child hood :(
R.I.P Freddy
At 5:48 zippy was talking to George but he nearly said Bungle👧🏼
Gaming and Other random videos oh yes zippy called George bun Georgy Porgy lolol
Leaving mistakes in makes it seem more realistic. We all make mistakes in real life.
Oh yeah!🤣🤣🤣
14:07 : Bungle raining on zippy's parade as usual lol 😂✅
RIP geoffrey :(
To everyone's Mother's, Happy Mother's Day. 💐🌸💮🌼🏵️
I had a soft toy that was zippy...WD40 and a match stick soon sorted that out!!!!
My dad used to show me this as a baby, (around 2001), as I grew up I needed a speech therapist; I blame Zippy and George honestly.
BTW, I think he bought VHSs of it, I'm pretty sure it was not still being shown in 2001 lol.
My mum loves this 🙃😘😚😝🤪☺🤑
Just tokd my daughter about this i used to go homevat primary school and it was on at dinner time cant believe the school n parents let me at that age
Thanks for your help
