      Yeah, it's definitely fun to have one. But these are weighty lenses so I might switch to the Pergear 10mm f8 or Rockstar 10mm f8 if I can find a comparison.
      The 7Artisans is a legit, proper lens. The amount of heft/glass is impressive considering the price, whereas the bodycap 10mm lenses have purple fringing and don't look anywhere near as sharp.

    Very good review, Damian. Not everybody needs a 7.5mm fisheye but if you need it, this lens delivers very good quality and usability. I recently bought one just to make a POV video with it but I corrected the distortion in all the images, I am not a fan of the fisheye look 😅

    I like fisheyes, they take really interesting portraits too. I have the Meike 6.5mm but do intend to play with the 7artisans at some point.

    Fisheye are normally very expensive while you probably won't use it very often, in fact I never really missed it
    So this cheap fisheye is a great solution and for me better addition to my collection then say a 400 mm tele.
    And I like the pictures sharpness- and color-wise.
    Also great that it fits the Fuji XT20 mount as well as the Canon M50 mount.
    Thanks for the review!

    This is a great lens for those of us who work in extremely tight places with no ability to move to a roomier location. I am picking up the new "II" version after a few years of beating the crap out of the original version of the lens, shooting inside structure fires, on board fire trucks and around medevacs. Is it the sharpest lens? Nope. Is it the most durable? Nope. Can it fit almost anywhere when attached to an XPro1 body? Yep, pretty much, and make it look nice and wide. I often use Luminar to defish the lens a bit. I think I originally found 7Artisans through your videos.

      When 'defishing', do you still get an angle of view wider than a 12mm rectilinear?

    • @stevenfrischling5908
      @stevenfrischling5908 2 роки тому

      @@tomsgmail8180 You lose a bit on the edges, but not much. It is still considerably a wider field of view than a 12mm, which I also carry.

    you say "local tourism" like that is a bad thing to those of us who don't live in the UK anything local is a way to travel to your hometown. I would love to hear more about the places you are and what they are, for instance, I often see the stadium in the background but not sure what it and who plays there. and what is that big house at the start of the video and when did you move there :)

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  3 роки тому +1

      Oh no, not a bad thing no! I think it's something most of us take for granted. You are quite right.
      Not really my house of course, Aston Hall is a Grade I listed Jacobean house from the 17th century! The stadium that most "features" on my channel is Villa Park, the home of Aston Villa Football Club who I follow. It's one of the founder members of the football league and the statue that I often photograph for test shots is that of William McGregor who invented the league system that went on to be the basis of leagues in different sports across the planet.

    Nice video Damien, thanks for keeping them coming. The lens looks fun... given the choice between this and the Pergear 7.5 you reviewed a few months ago, which would you opt for?

    Thanks for another of your excellent reviews.
    For my part, 12mm is about as wide as I go.
    Whilst I like wider shots and landscapes, fish eye effects seem to take a little- too much!- mastering for me to obtain maximum potential.
    Perhaps simply my lack of skill and would benefit from some guidance?
    With cheap and good quality lens like the Artisan, may dip my toe in the water.
    Not how sure how widely available this brand is in Australia?
    Thanks again.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  3 роки тому

      I think it's something you can have a bit of fun with but isn't entirely necessary. Some people really hate the distortion. it's definitely a case of either going wild and getting some extreme looking shots or trying to line up the horizon and get something a little less odd. You've hit the nail on the head though, at the low price point, might be worth a play!

  • @blood_n_guts_murphy

    On my mark 1 the distance markings are wrong.
    Also, I regularly move the aperture by mistake so had to add a rubber focus lever.
    Any comparison with the Pergear 10mm f8?

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  2 роки тому +1

      Good spot. Compared to the 10mm for me it's a different ball game. The 10mm is less flexible, lesser IQ but tiny and fun.

    • @blood_n_guts_murphy
      @blood_n_guts_murphy 2 роки тому

      @@DamianBrown I am hoping the new Pergear 10mm f5.6 will be decent. Please review and compare if you get it. Could be a nice street lens for my pocket when using the 27mm. It's almost a pancake except for the little in-built hood. Just 120g.
      The 7.5mm is great for street as you can get so close, but it's a touch heavy on bigger bodies and fisheye often isn't suitable, so it gets limited use. But I can't get over the f8's shortcomings.

      Set the camera to shoot without lens and if you want the focal length to appear in the exif data set the focal length in the settings too. That also goes for bodies with IBIS.

    • @DamianBrown

      Looks like improved glass more than anything. According to their website: Single glass with a higher refractive index is used in the front glass group to replace the first generation cemented glass. The rear group of optical glass is added with the HOYA ED glass, which effectively improves the chromatic aberration.
      The image quality of the lens has been improved accordingly. Under the premise of correcting various aberrations, the field of view angle has also been improved a lot; the polishing process of the glass is more precise and complicated than the previous generation.
      The optical structure of the entire lens still consists of 11 lenses, but the total optical length is shortened, making the lens more compact than the previous generation.
