    Thks & quite amazing/broad comparison;
    Buts it's !DS1823+ or Bust! for me (hopefully it's still ~$125 a bay). The Taipei computex is May 30-June 2.
    Oh hi Eddie (& hi sea-gull ;)

    i bought the ds1522+ much more because of the memory included. I'm using just four bays.

    If only the 920 had m2 pools, it would be such a solid choice in their lineup. To bad when they released the 423 they didn't just rebadge the 920+ with pools. The 423 with limited memory and lack of expandability really make it good for a smaller segment. It colud have been really sweet. At that point if they would have added the J6412 and 2.5 GBe, it would have been about perfect really.... sigh... I would have bought one if that was the case, I bet they could have gotten $800 USD for it, the demand would be so high...

    Can you do the same approach video for Qnap? Please? Pretty Please?
    oh, and Terre Master, and Asusstore!

    Topic I'd be interested in; Can I recover or migrate Synology to a lower drive number system. Ie. Can a 5 bay SHR1 or SHR2 be moved to a 4 bay?

    I got the ds923+ (for Business) and the ds220+ (Home) for a couple of months now. I don’t feel any difference at all.
    If you don’t need much storage or don’t want to expand later go for the ds220+ and buy some crucial memory. It’s a brilliant device!
    If you need the 4 bays go for the 923+. The price difference to the 4** series is not a lot.

      I am considering to buy a NAS for personal storage with the only intention to access my media and documents from all devices.. Is the DS220+ enough for this job?

      @@AsanovskiHidajetif you don’t plan on using multiple VMs, *ARR suite or a lot of docker containers it’s enough compute. Go for more storage than you think you need if you want to use synologys backup software. For documents and basic files it’s a brilliant entry device.

    DS420J with DSM 7.2-64551 has Container manager.

    Ds924 coming out this year or just go for 923???

  • @jasperverkroost

    For backup, I would recommend the 220j instead (much cheaper), unless you need a very large amount of backup space. I am wondering: how fit is the 423+ for using Plex with the default of 2Gb of RAM?

      Just earlier this year when I finally purchased a home user level NAS to replace a truly ancient NetworkAppliance I bought from my company when it closed down, I went with 4 bays rather than 2 because I prefer to spread out my so I'm not dependent on two drives I probably purchased at the same time. The 4, 6Tb drives I purchased are from three different build dates so in theory, I should lose more than 2 due to production errors.

    love the review. I see the DVA3221 has a Video card built-in. @NASCompares, Would it be a good plex server for transcoding?

  • @CarlRyds
    @CarlRyds Рік тому +1

    It's a shame they don't do a rack mount that's good for Plex at an affordable price - like a DS423+ but in a rack U1 style. I have a little server cabinet with U1 Switch and patch panel, would love a U1 Synology as a media server and data storage instead of having to put a disc station on a shelf at the bottom.

      100% agree. If they would only make a short depth 1u like the rs422+ with specs like the QNAP ts-464eu -4g. Would be awesome.

    hoping you or other subscribers could help me out. i have the DS420J (with 3 drives) and it has been working fine last night but this morning my pc can no longer detect it. when i used synology assistant to check what happened, thought i need to remap, the status states that it is not installed and when i click connect, it redirects me to reinstall DSM which will erase all my data and i dont want that.
    i tried checking the drives on my pc to see if any of them failed but it passed the seagate diagnostic tests

    Why does the he 423 value series looks like a j series?

  • @IntoxicatedVortex
    @IntoxicatedVortex Рік тому

    I don't know about your assessment of the DVA3221 given you can arm it with 32GB RAM, 2 x DX517 expansion units and especially has that Nvidia GTX1650 on-board… that would be quite the Plex media and transcoding server! Granted not what it was designed for and you could get waaaaay better "value" elsewhere but still. Maybe you should run your video tests on it. 😂

    • @nascompares
      @nascompares  Рік тому

      Unfortunately, PLEX is not (officially) able to conduct GPU passthrough on this system (you cannot even create a container to utilize the resource), so sadly Plex would reliant on the rather mid tier Atom this device runs.

    could somebody recommend me a Nas for a user who just wants to view his own content through every computer he owns?
    I may want to edit a video out of them, very simple cuts and edits.
    I wish I'd know which one to save for. I think the 923+ is the best choice?

      otherwise go with synology "plug'n play"

      No, DSM must be installed on hard drives.
