  • I know someone already made this for Machine Head, but I felt it sort of glazed over most of the catalogue, so I wanted to make my own stab at it.
Singles are included as despite not appearing on albums, they are considered to be substantial releases. ("Is There Anybody Out There?" in particular is the most played Machine Head song on streaming platforms such as Spotify, so I felt it warranted being included.)
For those who might be asking; "Where's My Hands Are Empty/Arrows in Words From The Sky?", all of those singles are included in their latest album release, thus separating them is un-necessary.
This is all just for fun and shouldn't be taken seriously. The internet is too serious as it is.
    Please enjoy.

Glad there's one now that gives an accurate opinion of Catharsis, terrible album.

Definitely my least favourite of all the MH albums.
The majority of tracks sound completely uninspired and one-dimensional, and some just have lyrics that are too painfully lowbrow and sound completely out of place.
"Heavy Lies The Crown" is the lone highlight of the album.

Completely agree. It often gets labelled as a nu metal album but I don't think that was really the problem with it, moreso the issues that you stated. The only song really from what I remember of it that sounded full on nu metal was Triple Beam, heck Burning Red and Supercharger seemed more nu metal from what I've heard of them. Thought Of Kingdom and Crown was fairly good but still a ways to go before they get back to the level of Blackening and Unto The Locust again.

@@danh279 "Triple Beam" was really about as nu-metal as it got, but the album's undoing is largely down to my previous statements plus Robb getting too carried away with his messages/feelings on controversial topics at the time. He had good intentions, and I fairly agree with his public stance on a lot of topics, be they controversial or not, but it was the manner in which he tried to get it out the public ended up getting too much in the way of the music and took away from what made the likes of The Blackening and Unto the Locust so special. Lyrically has always been one of Robb's weaknesses, but its such a night and day difference from the majority of what's on The Blackening for example to what I consider the lowpoint; "Bastards". There was nothing he could've done to make that song salvageable, just purely awful.
Doubling down on the negative backlash with that "Do or Die" track I felt also did a lot of damage to his credibility to many in the metal community, for some to the point it became irreparable.
As for their *actual* Nu-Metal phase, I honestly think The Burning Red gets far more flack than it actually deserves. Yes I could see why some would've been upset with their change in direction at the time, but compared to other Nu-Metal acts at the time, its actually quite a bit more tame and still very rooted with Groove Metal elements. If you took away "From This Day" and "Desire to Fire" to example, there's actually not that much rapping on the album left. The songs still have some decent aggression and I honestly enjoy listening to it each time it comes on rotation. Supercharger on the other hand just sounds like they were running out of ideas at that point and it seemed clear by that point that continuing in that direction would've likely spelt a premature end for the bad. A completely tired, forgettable album.
Of Kingdom and Crown is probably the most enjoyable album I've listened to since Unto The Locust. I wouldn't quite rank it above Locust, The Blackening, or Burn My Eyes, but I could see myself going back to it more than say something like Bloodstone and Diamonds.

Personally I think catharsis is better than B&D but this is funny as.
