Cinema Speculation is such a great book. It's like if his character in Reservoir Dogs survived and wrote a book of cinematic pop culture lol
I mean, Mr Brown is Tarantino playing himself.
One of my all time favourite movies. There are so many parts of Shawshank Redemption taken straight from this film.
And Naked Gun 33 1/3, including Fred Ward. 😂
Yep, like the part where it's set in a prison for example.
Which parts exactly from Shawshank are "taken straight from" Escape from Alcatraz?
The part where Andy makes a digging tool from a nail file or where Frank Morris has a giant poster of Rita Hayworth he digs a huge tunnel from behind?
Agreed, a great film

Underrated. Love the atmosphere and score. It almost feels like a horror movie.
Can watch this film over and over. Classic
Escape from Alcatraz is one of Clint Eastwoods best movies of the 1970s.
Eastwood is perfect in this role. Totally believable as a Prisoner and his work is effective here.
Siegel captures the environment of The Rock well with his choice of scenes and camera set ups.
Awesome movie that gets overlooked for whatever reason, but I would put it in my top 5 favorite Eastwood movies and one of the best from the 70s.
Because it’s arguably dull and predictable
@@knownpleasures Your mom is not the topic, son.
This wasn't overlooked at the time. And it hasn't been overlooked since. It's a crackling drama-suspense film and one of Eastwood's best from his 70's/80's period that is neither a Western nor a straight action film.
@@GizmoBeach I disagree, it has become underrated.
The old man cutting his fingers of shocked me at the time.
Casting McGoohan as the warden was inspired.
Tarantino is a terrific filmmaker, but he's also my favourite living film critic/historian.
I warched this when i was about 9 .
I spent the next week at school trying to button up the top 1 on my shirt with 1 hand .
I remember my Dad taking me to see this at the drive in. It was a double feature with Dixie Dynamite opening. Classic drive in flick.
Also just wanted to add about the movie DIGGSTOWN not only is RANDALL TEX COBB in it. But a young HEATHER GRAHAM. Someone needs to mention this underrated film. “Any Man Residing In The Town Today. Is A Diggstown Man.”
I love this movie. This was my favorite prison escape movie of all time until I saw the French movie Le Trou from 1960. That movie instantly made my top 20 movies of all time list.
Along with Deliverance, it ends with one of the creepiest shots in movie history.
I love your vids, thanks for all your posts! ❤
My favorite prison movie and my favorite Eastwood film.
Its the original Shawshank without Clint being possibly innocent
The naked walk through the cell house was historically accurate. The first Warden, “Saltwater” Johnson (1934-1948), used to have new inmates make that walk to try to strip them of their dignity from day 1. It was designed to psychologically break “big shot” criminals, escape artists, and incorrigible inmates from other institutions.
The isolation is realized so well by Siegel..the tempo, pace, the quiet intensity terrific. Only issue l have is the feeble nature of the older guards as opposed to the younger bulk monsters you see in most of these high-security facilities..then again, many of the historic photos of Alcatraz depict those types, so their homework might be better than mine.
Still one of my absolute favorite Eastwood films.
Love this movie
Quentin Tarantino on Clint Eastwood?
..felt much more like Tarantino on Don Segal
Title is. ..
Thanks, I didn't know these interviews were a thing until just now
I don’t think Rodin worked much in granite. But really wonderful take on Alcatraz by Tarantino here.
Seminal film for me as a kid. Still is.
I love The Black Windmill (1974) by Siegel - it’s totally underrated these days
Go and read Quentin's book if you like his rambling style of storytelling
Don Siegel's greatest masterpiece is the original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers....
love this movie, it was hard to find a bluray for it
It sounds like they spliced two Tarantino interviews into this one. OK take, but wish it would have been longer.
What was clint eastwood first line 🤔
Great film. Its actually a little creepy in parts I think.
Cinema speculation
Good thing it was made in the '70s or else he'd be shredding this flick...
Great prison film, better than Shawshank Redemption. And good as Midnight Express.
QT is that guy who has one thought and just says it as loud as possible over and over until everyone leaves. Pls stop with him.
What a dumb movie..
They give away the ending in the title.
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Escape from Alcatraz inspired a Stephen King novella which lead to The Shawshank Redemption. King is a thief and a hack, obviously.
What exactly did King steal except for benevolent black prison mate and a crooked warden?
Lol King admitted Shawshank is an Ode to Count of Monte Cristo. They even mention it in the movie. You're a fool thinking King is a thief.
Calling one of the best and most respected writers of all time a hack is rather disrespectful
Please get rid of that oh no let’s go opening, can you find something less annoying?
