For taking inspiration I go to google and pinterest and for practical examples I also go on shopping sites and searching the same related businesses and watching their products and logo
I love your videos and the clear way in which you deliver your message. Thank you for the part you play in the world of design and the designer community.
Thank you culosos. I know that for some people I speak too slowly, but I know that for many viewers, English is not their first language and speaking quite slowly helps them. Everyone else can always speed up my videos :) Cheers, Col
I'd love to do that if the project goes ahead. It hasn't been confirmed yet. I might still do it anyway as a self-generated project and to create that second instalment.
this is really amazing !! i was a neon artist then network engineer and now a programmer but designing is always been in my blood and I've got a lot of tips and info from you and improved myself on my hobby!! thanks!!
Pixels Ink to me it's a core information! i have watched other videos but the difference i found in your teaching style is that there's no hidden secret you keep. you explain so many things in just one video which makes your teaching style special. thanks
For me the best place to find inspiration when it comes to logo design is logopond. From time to time I like to browse contests on 99designs that are in the same industry as my project and check out what people are doing. Hope this helps 😊
Pinterest is really good for inspiration, it will show you pictures associated with the one you cklicked so process of nawrrowing is much faster tha via google.
Hey Pankaj, thanks for the comment. What area of typography are you looking to improve? Do you mean being able to choose the right typefaces to suit your designs or are you looking to draw your own typefaces?
Hey Ashok, I don't really have any content that goes in-depth on this topic. I do have a video that gives a quick overview on my thoughts for choosing a font - ua-cam.com/video/FeFPkPjBHEE/v-deo.html I hope that helps a little.
love your video! great videos! what would you recommend for a beauty logo? i specialize in eyelash extensions and i'm looking to brand my company and logo. Thank you!!!
Hi Layla, It is quite difficult to suggest what would be the correct approach for your logo without really knowing your goals or values. The first thing to do is to look at what your competitor's logos and see how you can improve on things when it comes to your own logo. A lot of beauty industry logos can be very cliché and cheesy. Try not to go down that route :)
Hey, I've been watching your videos to help me with creating a logo design. I love your videos! I was wondering if you have any advice for creating a logo for selling horror themed products. Watching your colour video especially, the darker colours "negative" characteristics have actually been the main themes of my handmade horror themed products.
Hi Hayley, It depends on if you want to be in your face horror or subtle/clever. If it is in your face you could look for typefaces that are very obviously horror based. drips, spikes etc. Some examples: www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=803&text=Horror The only thing with that is I personally think it can end up looking a bit cheesy. What you can also try would be to create a logo where there is some hidden element or negative space that hints at the horror element. Something like this: www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/446349013048762681/ Cheers, Col
Hey mate, As far as I am aware there is no cast iron way to rule out that a logo you design isn’t already in use somewhere else. You can of course do Google searches, do a reverse image search of your logo design and you can also check the WIPO website (www.wipo.int/branddb/en/#) for any registered logos. The WIPO website is crap in terms of user interface. What I say to my clients is that to the best of my abilities and knowledge any logo I design is original and not based on or replicates an existing logo. I cannot guarantee though that it won’t be similar to something that already exists are there are hundreds of thousands of logo designs out there. I recommend doing as much research as you possibly can at the concept stage to rule out as much as you can before you proceed to a final logo design.
Wow, thanks man for your great reply! I am designing a logo for a sneaker brand that one day may or may not see the light. I came a long way with your vids. And this again is another step. Thanks!
Instead of going to Google images I find places like Pinterest, FFFFound, and Behance are more beneficial locations to checkout online inspiration. A lot of my logo inspiration books are sourced from places like Counterprint and Lawrence King Publications.
Yes, I have hundreds of Pinterest boards I use for inspiration. I do mention Pinterest in the video. I could have rattled off a huge list of sites but need to try and keep the videos from getting too long :) Really appreciate your feedback Ultimok. I actually had not heard of FFFFound so I'll be checking that out. Cheers, Col
I have also found myself following a lengthy list of logo designers / inspiration on Instagram. Designers such as Mark Bloom from Mash Creative, Jeroen Van Eerden, George Bokhua and Lucas Fields to name a few. Thanks Col, keep up the good work. - Brian.
@@RockYourBrand Thanks, this time the link worked, I cannot find the soft copy of Branding in 5 and a half day- do you know any site where i can buy a soft copy of that book from?
During Moodboard or Layout, just *sketch* everything from mind. Implement the *Visual elements & Design Principles* of Logo Design *during the End* of *Sketch* Process.
2:37 A quick qualification there ! You wouldn't want people thinking Col Pixie was just another logo cogger 😄️ . Seriously, rather than exploring a load of old logos in that general area and getting into the mood with your mind map, why not just ask yourself the question: what *is* - essentially - science fiction ? I mean, forget Gabrielle Drake in her silvery mini and Uhuru's tight butt. (But let's *never* that first interracial kiss!) What are we doing when we allow our minds to swallow a helping of someone's take on human behaviour some centuries into the future ? Whatever it is - that is the essence of sci-fi.
searching on Google for reference or idea is meaningless , newcomers will stole from there 😣 I saw all of my friends started coping from web . rest of your video is good
That is why I say to use it for inspiration to spark off new concepts. Sadly, there will always be people that copy, but we can be different and create new things :)
Hi Mohamed, Thanks for your comment. I'd love to be able to take time to speak to everyone who has a question but it just isn't feasible I'm afraid. Leave your question here in the comments (if appropriate), and I'll reply when I can :)

Would love for you to make a second part where we watch you sketching ideas for this sci-fi logo!

I've never blocked anyone on Twitter, so I'm not sure why that has happened. Was it my @pixelsink or my @pixelscol account?

Fixed it. I have no idea why your account had been blocked!
