    WOW. I've owned xplane for over a year now and have been frustrated with the basics of learning to fly correctly.
    I dont have the kind of money to be able to go and learn the real thing at an aviation college.
    I watch all the online intuition videos that are out there and your videos are by far the best!
    Step by step intuition that works marvelously with xp10.
    You've managed thru your excellent presentations to give the viewers a virtual simulated experience.
    I felt that i was sitting in the pilots seat and you were demonstrating step by step how it done!
    Now thats accelerated learning and i didnt even have to leave my room!
    I can now jump onto xplane and practice the lessons taught to me. Totally Awesome.

      Chris Caulcutt Thanks for the kind words. However I am in the middle (or perhaps first third) with my videos. Currently studying the excellent book "Stick and Rudder" to improve my next video about theory of level turns. I know its been more than half a year now since my last video but as usual, I want to keep the bar high so that even 10 years from now I can look back and be proud of every video I've made. Anyway, I am thrilled to know that the videos so far have helped to master the basics.

    Finally! A nice, systematic tutorial without a lot of stupid music blaring in the background, and hard to follow mouse commands for the instrument panel. And a no-frills approach to learning the basics of flight in X-Plane. Thank you VERY much for posting these videos. I have done my share of flying "out of the box" instant startups, and now want to learn procedures from a dead, cold, non-running engine. All the way from the beginning when I sit in the cockpit. Cool, man :)

    I have been looking for someone that would teach the fundamentals. That was fantastic and the way you flew was more than impressive. Thank you much.

    Fantastic lesson series! Thank you so much for the sharing of your knowledge on this subject! Exactly what I was looking for... made me so glad that I've joined the X-Plane.org forums! I know that there's a lot more to learn from everybody else, but I really wanted to express a huge "Thank You" to you for giving me such a clear understanding of all of this. Very well taught!

    Aitäh! Thanks for posting this. I'm also getting started on X-Plane and I am looking forward to learning along with your video series as it gets posted. I love the image of the horizon as the primary instrument for VFR flight. My real world instructor has been trying to explain that to me, but never in that many words. Makes perfect sense that way.

    Thanks for kind words, Jay Patel. Glad the video helps.
    As you've probably noticed, it has been quite many months since the last update to the series. The thing is that I am currently busy becoming real world flight instructor. Had quite many lectures for real students in this winter and currently I am working through the ATPL theory which is a main obstacle towards any kind of professional aviation career opportunity. However I am very eager to get the next video out, but it still must wait for couple of months I believe. Bare with me and the series will continue. I have all the stuff laid out in my memory and I really want to show you the way the plane should be piloted but as said I am a bit occupied with real world aviation right now. Thanks for your understanding. Wigry

    Thanks for the blog link. I can't wait to explore it. It will be good language practice for me. (Õpisin Tartu Ülikoolis a. 1996-98.) You're right that there's very little aviation material in Estonian. Good for you working to change that. My Tartu flying adventures included up close looks at an An-2 and Let 410. I even got to log a brief flight in a PZL Wilga.

    Thanks for the superb Tutorial. In order to make any home Flight Simulator as realistic as possible, are we supposed to lean in our Chair the direction our Airplane is Pitching, Banking etc. as we are flying ? If so, would we look ridiculous to others in the Room, or do we just tell them to go Fly a Kite & just leave us alone ?

    I'm a beginner at flying and just bought x plane 10 looking around for tutorials and lessons which brought me to your video. My question is if this is part 1 intro shouldn't you be explaining what you do before you take off? You mentioned switching this on and that on but not show how and what it is doing. I haven't watched your other videos yet but I will take a look after this video but as a beginner I would like to know what switches you press to start and then how you taxi to the runway then go through the checks to take off.

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  8 років тому +1

      +Danny_PS4 Hi, first thank you for feedback. The purpose of this video is really not to show any procedures but just to give an overview of the series. As by default X-Plane starts up on runway with engines running, you should never really need any startup procedures unless you explicitly want to start cold and dark. On the following videos I use a bit of a trick to get us airbourne until I have covered the takeoffs. So look also the other videos and thos will get you started.

    • @Dannysgamess
      @Dannysgamess 8 років тому

      +wigrysystems Thanks for the information, I will also look at your other videos. My aim was to learn from scratch taxi to runway then takeoff etc, it does seem daunting having to learn everything but I will have fun watching your videos and putting it into practice. Thanks for uploading them.

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  8 років тому

      +Danny_PS4 I dont plan to cover procedures nor taxiing on the ground. So you have to look elsewhere for that. However what is my aim is to teach you FLY the plane. Regarding the stuff I did in this video - I ensured a bit throttle is applied and mixture is off then turned the ignition switch and then pushed the mixture all the way full to start the plane. Then set flaps 10 and full throttle and off you go using pedals to keep the plane going straight down the runway. The popwash hits the tail and that tries to turn the plane to the left and you need to apply right rudder during ground run to compensate and move straight. Regarding taxi - you use rudder pedasl to steer the plane on the ground and nothing really special about that. The plane handles like a drunk cow on the ground and thats pretty realistic. The real plane handles poorly on the ground also.

    Thank You for your great videos. They have been very helpful for me, totally beginner. One question: My flight school suddenly went to night mode after few schooldays. How can I get it back to day time? I have X-plane 11.

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  7 років тому +1

      Hi, There are couple of options - either way you need to get yourself to daytime. You either have a realtime clock enabled and you are situated not in your actual location (say you are in europe but fly in america and its night there while its a daytime in your home) or you have set your time manually to night. This can easily be fixed on "New flight" screen on the right side where you can customize weather and environment and also time of day. In that same place you have a checkbox that enables/disables real time usage.

    Very informative videos Sir!! I have just started using X-Plane 10. I am a newbie. Can you point me to any documentations or videos explain the functions and operation of the default Cessna 172 GPS? The radio is labeled "X-Plane 430". I have tried and tried to figure it out but the farthest I got was entering the name of an airport but that's it. Please help!

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  9 років тому

      Rick Cadena First there is a manual in the Instructions folder under X-Plane. Please read that one thoroughly. Second, please head over to x-plane.org and make yourself as a member to have superb community support at your fingertips.

    • @rickcadena6694
      @rickcadena6694 9 років тому

      Thank you but I've done both of those suggestions. I do understand the concept but I just can't seem to get the control knobs to respond the way I think they should. I do fine with the FSX GPS/radios. Can you suggest a payware radio/GPS that will work in most GA aircraft in X-Plane? I don't mind paying if it will work in most GAs.

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  9 років тому

      Rick Cadena I still think you should ask from the forum. Also I guess that new GPS unit is quite capable. If you have issues with its buttons, then you should make a descriptive post in the forum. About different knobs operations, have you tries andy Carenado planes? They have a scrollwheel entry. Also try to click and drag the buttons.

      +Zee .Z Hi, You mean you only see a little part of the instrument panel? You can control how much you see under Rendering Settings Field of View box. Also check the non-proportional field of view so you can adjust both horizontal and vertical view angle to fit more stuff to the display.

    well. Thanks.
    The most important steps which could help me out would be, how to communicate with ground and tower and I don't know if x-plane like Microsoft has ATC window or how I cam to connect . It would be awesome if you could give me a step by step in writing. Thanks. For Example lets use KSNA John Wayne airport and get the data from Local map. Thanks again

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  9 років тому

      +Brian Shaabani Unfortunately I have no plans to cover ATC (any time soon). however what I would really recommend is to read X-Plane manual. There is a whole chapter devoted to ATC operations and thats a perfect start that gives you idea where to get the frequencies, in whic order everything goes etc. However beware that for most users, the X-Plane ATC is quite useless. It is broken and works really bad compared to FSX for example. So my recommendation is not to use X-Plane's ATC. Instead use VATSIM or PilotEdge if you want ATC exposure.

      Hi, you can use the number keys and function keys to operate throttle/mixture, flaps etc. However you need a mouse to control the pitch and bank. Read the instruction manual that is in the X-Plane installation folder. There is also "XPlane 10 key commands.rtf" file that covers the default key bindings.

      For every axis on joystick config, there is a "revers" checkbox to reverse the sensing. Use that if the axis do not work as expected.

    • @wigrysystems

      hmm I am not aware if elevators and ailerons can be controlled with keyboard? There is a mouse control square in the upper part of the screen and if you click in there, then you can use mouse to control the surfaces. Keyboard can then be used to control flaps and engine etc.

    Glad to see Estonian language in the comments - "Aitäh" is "Thank you" in Estonian. While I continue doing the videos, you can read about my real world flying experience from quite considerable blog series I created this summer. It is all in Estonian and quite intentionally as there is not a lot of information about real world flying in Estonian. Others can use Google translate to get the text to English. wigrypilot.blogspot.com Read from oldest to newest post to get the best experience.

    Stall horn at 15:58?

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  9 років тому

      You heard right. This is the correct way to land an aircraft in full stall. Have a look at my other video about landing in Kärdla airport, where you hear the same sound from real airplane: ua-cam.com/video/HDA8PikEsl0/v-deo.html

    • @iforgotmyusername7554
      @iforgotmyusername7554 9 років тому

      Thats strange. Does this only apply to a cessna? Because when I flew in a Cherokee 180 for my first time (last Saturday) I didnt even hear a stall horn.

    • @wigrysystems
      @wigrysystems  9 років тому

      I Forgot My Username Depends how you land. If you do not land at max AoA, then you do not hear the stall horn because you settle down with plenty of lift generated by the wing. You can land so that fromt wheel is just barely above the ground at touchdown or you can land so that nose is some 15 degrees high at touchdown. That is the reason if you hear the stall warning or not.
