Wish I found your video after viewing hundreds of others. You even threw in how to take the motor cover off. Many things that other videos flew by and assumed people new about them. 🙂👌
Was having issues with the 8hp mercury outboard we just got for our boat, found this video, and realized 1.) I'm going to need a mechanic, and 2.) this is Jon from Fly 8MA! Hi Jon!
A very well done video that I appreciated watching. Just acquired a 1968 mercury 3.9 2 stroke to see if it runs or get running and then sell it. Thank you for the tutorial and all the best from New Rochelle N.Y.
I recommend to tilt fuel tank while running, so that you can keep some amount of gas even at the time you run out of the fuel. When you experience the run out, you just put the tank horizontal positon, so you will know you still have some gas in your tank. Don't you think it's a good idea?
Hello, thank you for the information. Very usefull. I was wondering if you can help me with a problem I have. my Mercury 5hp is leaking oil from the swivel joint, would you know why and how to fix it???
If I’m storing the fuel tank, should I keep the tank’s gas relief open or closed? And how come this motor’s lower unit is not immersed in water?? Does it not overheat since it’s not cycling water??
Looked like the lower unit was taken off and he did not run it very long so the engine temp was fine. Also 2 stroke will brake down in 30 days so add stabilizer so your carb wont get gummed up and tank stays fresh for use. Also close that relief during storage and travel, only needs to be open when your running your outboard. Happy Boating!
Do you have a suggestion how to transport a 20hp Suzuki DF20 short shaft. I just bought one for my inflatable Truekit Discovery. I will be installing and uninstalling from transom after each use. Urgently I have it on a wood stand that I built that can fit under a dolly to move about the garage. I am challenged as to how I can safety carry it in my tundra pick up truck. Thinking about a diy bed slide with a foam baby crib mattress to lay the motor on top of it, tiller side down. Any help would be great
If the kill switch wasn’t attached it wouldn’t have started thats what its meant for mines attached to my arm so if i ever fall out the boat the bracelet on my arm pull the cord attached to the kill switch and the boat turns off allowing me to swim back to it
Late reply. The reply you got is wrong. I don't know if it's all Mercury's but mine has on off switch that doesn't need the kill switch to start it. You just push up and it stays in run mode. How kill the switch works on these ones is when you put it into Run it locks in the kill switch. But you don't have to insert this for it to run. It's not like other outboards that has the clip and spring loaded kill switch that won't start withought the clip. I thought it was law that outboards weren't allowed to be able to operate withought them inserted but here we are
@@dale3858 From my experience the impeller is plastic and rather cheap. But some models are a bitch to change. I think that the guy was servicing the motor sa the lower part was removed. I have started my motor a couple times on dry to see if stiil working but just for 5 seconds. But I have bought a motor and replaced the impeller because thedude started on dry and let it run.
I have a 9.9 mercury 4stroke 2018 ran 1/2 a season if put in bin full of water runs perfect put in river won't run at this point I wouldn't recommend mercury to anyone

Thank you my friend you helped me out a lot. Just picked up my first motor 15hp Mercury.

Thanks mate Just bought a new outboard and want to look like I know what I’m doing when I’m out launching the boat soon 😂
Great video, thanks. About to start my first Mercury this morning!
Great video for beginners. Nice job!
Renting a tiller with the GF later today. This video will be very helpful

Too much work for a guy but yes this is a pretty smart idea
thanks - ladies sailing programs my biggest concern is outboard issues on cold mornings
Great instructions
This is rocket science!
GREAT VIDEO VERY EDUCATIONAL
Awesome information I just subscribed $
You made it so easy to understand and very helpful indeed, thank you 😊
Excellent video. Very useful information
Great Video , for us Rookie"s. 👈
Hey john from flym8a 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thank you, do you have a video on the tilt /trim & how to work it
Same .... need tilting operation
Thank you for your reply & information 👍 ✌ 👈
And do NOT start it with no water going through it. You'll be,at the very least, replacing a water pump impeller
He took the lower unit off
He should still mention that running an outboard without water is going to damage the impeller!
Was hoping you would mention steering damper bolt. I just snapped the handle on mine...,4hp Yamaha. It’s on the upper shaft correct? Why does it work?
What should be the compression psi on an outboard like this? 4 stroke 9.9hp to be specific its a mercury 2007
Go Blue !

Where or is there a switch where if you are riding in a straight line u don’t have to hold the throttle bar ?
Thank you sir
thanks
Go blue!
Some chokes are to be pull instead of pressing them , am i right sir ?

lol the valve on top exactly what happen to mee it was close
I just bought a 2011 mercury 20hp motor does anyone know what oil to buy for it?
my 4hp 4 stroke pull cord just wont pull, any ideas why?
Yeah its locked up mate. Thats a serious problem
Or you dont have it in neutral
How did you start it w/o the kill switch attached?
If the kill switch wasn’t attached it wouldn’t have started thats what its meant for mines attached to my arm so if i ever fall out the boat the bracelet on my arm pull the cord attached to the kill switch and the boat turns off allowing me to swim back to it

Amazing explanation
Hey , when starting the motor for this very first time to after purchase , should it be in the water or - out of the water , great video
Doesnt matter just make sure its hooked up to a hose or in the water as long as water is going through the water pump and peeing
U be sure of this, be sure of that but u were not sure to cool ur outboard when started it!!!😂😂😂
How can I know that my fuel is getting finish when driving the boat in water
How come you didn't have water running through it???
Hello, please leave a Persian subtitle for the program so that Persian speakers can use your speech
I have a 2006 model... when i give it full throttle, it crawls.... there is no speed what can be the problem?
started last time with safety switch out
I bought a 4 HP Mercury and I can't find a kill button? 🤦
Why did it start up with kill switch removed?
He manually flipped the switch up, in the video
You cant start a outbard engien dry you WILL kill it
@@musicmanthatlikesoldandnew7324 Don't you mean impeller?

What's the jumper you are wearing?
And you got put the water hose on
Need fault finding
Don’t start your motor out of water it’s water cooled and it’s not good for it
yo who tf cares tho just grip it and rip it

Just show it already
