Malaysia is a country with thick forests. the forest is thorny and has dangerous animals. they are very skilled at preparing machete knives for various purposes in the forest.
You should pair it with another shorter 10inch - 12inch parang. The shorter parang is heavier and thicker meant to cut bigger branches. A 'Duku Chandong' is what you need next. 😊
Since I'm from Malaysia, I've used these types of machetes a lot. A lot of people who aren't familiar with machetes will be concerned about the handle but I can assure you that thing is gonna stay on for a very long time. Usually it is the blade that will get damage, which is normal if you use it a lot. Love using them because of how durable and reliable it is.
Malaysia has excellent cutting tools.

There are full tang version for those concerned people. Its prettymuch a skramasax/seax, but from malaysia. Amazing tools

Good to see South East Asian style machetes/parangs get more recognition. They tend to be thicker and have a more prominent grind than most machetes because the vegetation in South East Asia is generally a lot more woodier than other parts of the world. They are a staple here, fantastic hacking and bush clearing tools.

There is a technique in using thar parang more efficiently. The way youre using it you’ll get exhuasted very quickly.
Southeast asia is hot and humid. I grew up with this type of parang.
The one youre using is mostly used for merintis, to clear small branches and clear bushes.
To chop thicker would or bigger branches we use a similar parang but shorter than that and abit wider. The one youre using is longger and narrower.
And youre not suppose to overlap your finger on the “beak” of the handle.

There are many good and cheap generic brand Parang/ Machete in Malaysia. "Myparang" brand is expensive for Malaysian (or at least for me). Jayamata brand is OK quality and price.
MyParang is considered as the upper echelons of parangs 😂 Next would be Parang Lipis & Tantari. However I’d bet my money on these 3 brands any given day, in any forest in Malaysia. They’re solid

Great video man!!! I'm glad you liked them. I plan on rasping the handles on mine to a more traditional shape to get rid of the beak. Also I want to try to make a wooden handle for one just to see what I can do. I've never burned a tang in before. Happy chopping buddy
Thanks brother! I’m probably going to do the exact same thing. The bushcraft parang is just begging for a nicer handle! I wonder if these handles were actually molded to the tang and the tang extends and curves down the pommel… A coworker suggested that could be the case and I makes sense with that thing being so darn sturdy!!
@@soloproject99 I'm not sure but I'll find out soon. I have beat the daylights out of these things and they look good as new. I hate to see that other one had a crack in the plastic. I bet they would send you a new one. Also the farmers parang they have is legendary.

I own a LOT of various machetes and that was pretty impressive straight out of the box ... did you have to touch up the blade first or did it come that way ?
It actually came that way. When I got back to my truck the sucker was still able to slice paper. Should’ve recorded it but shouldacouldawoulda!
We try to touch up each blade on our Grizzly wet-sharpener. They'll arrive reasonably sharp and perfectly good to use, but no promises you'll be shaving with them :P

It seems that Bodark and Condor make similar knives. I have a 16” Condor Parang machete like yours. How thick is yours? I think mine is 5mm tapered to 3mm at the front. I’ve only used it once. I think it would be good for jungle environments. I’m in suburbia so I don’t really use mine.
What brand this knife? Jayasama?
If you really wants the best Malaysian Parang has to offer to the world, please get a MyParang Duku Chandung.. that is the best parang asian can offer and it was the design that Ray Mears put his life into his bushcraft world.. and it never failed the expectation as it was used by the origin tribe of Sabah and Sarawak since a lot of generations.. i guaranteed you will find it the best once you used it 😊😊😊
Parang not machette vice versa. A parang is a parang from South East Asia. A machette is from South America.

So that’s a good question. Personally, I have developed a problem with buying machetes as of lately. 😂 I’ve always been interested in the parang style and have drooled over the some of the Condor Knives for a few years now. My problem with Condor is, I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on a single machete for that price. It would be hard to actually do work with $140. I feel like I’d be babying it and might just loose my sh!t if I accidentally hit a rock with it.
This bandaid was easier to pull of because I got three blades for the price of one condor, they aren’t pretty, and I started making machete videos a couple months ago and needed fresh meat.
I’d probably buy one if someone let me use theirs for 20 minutes 😂😂

Parang aren't really machete, they're snap cutters.
there is an idiot who is obsessed with using a big tool from a different country and does not know how to weld this parang properly and soon he will end up in the Emergency unit, if he is not careful and he was panting for just cutting this log and using the wrong wrist actions. the death grip that you are using sir will exhaust you very quickly and you would probably get blisters all over your hand. This tool is used in the jungle and you my friend you are not well equiped to use this tool. why dont you learned how to weld a shorter blade or a knife (PROPERLY) , first them moved on to bigger things, . make sure you carry a first aid tool kit bag on you. when you pouncing around in a secondary forest. but its your prerogative.
Thanks for sharing your concerns and opinions. I swing machetes every day, all day, for a living and have for a long time now. I am well aware of the dangers. Opinions and experience are certainly welcome here on this channel. I will ask that you share your thoughts with respect though.
