You played the worst possible version of this game. The N64 version is buggy and lacks streaming music (opting for sequenced music instead that sounds much worse). This game was deaigned for the playstation, and then ported to N64 and PC. The Dreamcast version uses mostly the same assets as the PlayStation version, but the conversion was done by a different company on a different engine, resulting in some minor mechanical differences.
