I just want to say I eventually got a PS-2 (50 watts) and it is amazing. The effects loop is genius placing the time based effects after the full amp character and tone. The tubes in the PS-2 make the experience feel very organic and I feel that PS-2 enhances the natural intended design of the amps I have used it with thus far (Bogner Helios 100 and Bogner XTC 3534). The Fryette Power Stations are leviathans of technology that bring older gear forward to the present. Playing something like a Meris polymoon dialed subtle with the plexi amp makes for all kinds of forward thinking in guitar that is still mindful of the vintage past. I highly recommend.
If quality attenuation is at the forefront of your needs, Fryette’s Power Stations are where it’s at. True sound at reasonable volumes, despite the push for peripheral features by other manufacturers.
AH yes and Dr (Z) is in the house. They have a really cool facility a few cities over from me..... This Fryette is fedinite a game changer for smaller wattage amps!
I just got a fryette ps2-a today. For some reason i feel like the attenuated sound is significantly worse than the sound without the attenuator? I thought it was supposed to sound the same at any volume, but it doesn’t. Any tips on how to get the best out of it? Like i said I’m brand new to this piece of gear.
@@randym3982 i have since sold it, but if i remember correctly i hooked it up to my evh 5150 exactly as the website instructed, and kept only a compressor in the front end of the amp. I have since parted ways because of the huge chunk of tone I’d sacrifice turning it on. I really just wanted to get the pushed sound of the amp at high volumes into an attenuated bedroom sound- but it always ended up sounding infinitely better just dialing down the master volume instead without the fryette.
@@uhhdudeuhhwhatsup wow bummer, maybe you just got one out of phase or something, now I have to demo before I purchase especially since I play in stereo. Thanks for bumming me out hahaha
I'm curious about the sound of the tubes in this vs. the sold state amp of the boss waza tube amp expander. The demo was excellent, but I will probably need to hear in person to fully understand the difference.
@@bjhale542 from what I understand the Boss Waza tube amp expander actually turns your tube amps sound into digital at some point inside the box and then also through a digital amp. So there's that.
Hello. If I’m using say an el34 amp won’t the Fryette change the tone because it has kt88s in the power section? Therefore, won’t it sound like a kt88 amp?
One question - at low volume this tool will not make 1w tube amplifier sound like 100W amp at low volume, am I right? (it will not make more bottom end)
Not dissing this product at all, but I bought a Power station ( the old model) straight from Steven in his shop in the Valley, and although it sounded and worked great, the feel was just off. I could not for the life of me play properly through it. Went back and forth many times and as soon as that was sold, my playing was back. I had such high hopes for that power station.
Sven ols: Thanks for the comment. What did you find about the Power Station that caused your playing to be off? I've heard from some (and seen an output level chart supporting it) that it can compress the sound some, but most say it is quite dynamic. Or maybe its something else?
Just get a lower wattage amp. Power Amp distortion will never be the same with this unit in the middle. Like a smart man once said: “it’s like buying a Ferrari and pushing on the breaks all day long”
@@Matan2222222 I dont think you understand how it works. It's using both resistance and inductance together just like a speaker so its very reactive like a speaker. I think you are thinking of the other attenuators on the market that are just resistive. This thing reacts just like a speaker so it sounds like a speaker or speakers depending on how you set the little switches. It can sound like different speakers basically. This is so people with old Marshall's or other big amps can crank them these days...small amps dont sound like big amps....missing all the iron and power. It's just not the same using a small amp. This is the closest thing to cranking your big amp but now you can have it at any volume. Nothing like any other product out there. I have had many attenuators and I get what you are saying but this has solved that.

The REAL question is how do I get lessons from this guy?!
Need a dB meter so we can get a idea

I guess you mean high-quality of attenuation, and not destruction of quality!
This unit is fantastic! The effects loop sounds great. Any one with a vintage Marshall should get this unit.
this guy rocks. just stop the stupid constant camera angle change ...so annoying

Bang Tango- 'Someone' intro?
Finally a review of this can not even find text reviews anywhere
Just wanted to say how well done your videos are.
How do you bypass the internal tube power section?

Really? You're the first person to say that. Were you running effects or just straight through the amp? It's supposed to sound the same?

Ps-100 will be 2.5 times louder than boss, and kt-88 tubes will stay unsaturated till you crank them on 9 or 10.
Ps-100 will have better punch, dynamics and bass than boss device as well. These are the tube specs vs ss.

Hi Jack, PS2 is actually 6L6 not EL34 as you said on the beginning of your review. Cool content as always
Yea, I had to look and see which one I had
Yes it’s 6l6 I got in touch with fryette it is 6l6 not el34
Is that in the UK? He also said that the PS-100 is 2xKT88 and officially it seems to be 2x6550. Could this be just a UK v US marketing issue?
hi, since it has an fx loop, is there any benefit to connecting, say, a fractal fm3 modeler using a 4 cable method?

Is this something you could use with the helix or hx effects?
Richard Poole Yes, you could.
Thanks Brah, Love your play'in. I'll getting one of these off the used market. 😉
The problem with the PS is that the re amping section colours yr amps tone..
How does it compare to that ox box?
Ordered mine today :)
