    I guided and fished professionally for striped bass and hybrids around the southern US. Now living in southern Indiana, I’ll be taking my Hobie out on Monroe and Patoka soon.

      Find some good fishing holes on Monroe and maybe we can hook up some time and give those wipers a good beat down. I have a son that lives 5 miles from the dam and I go down and visit him several times a year. Good Luck and thanks for watching!

    Great tip, I've seen a few others use mussels. I've lost 3 wipers because I'm a bass fisherman with a tight drag, but have since fixed this problem.

    Do you ever bottom fish with mussels?

    • @kreigadkins
      @kreigadkins  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, works very well. I fish a lake that has a real nice drop off at 20ft to 50 feet. the wipers like to hang on the drop off from spring to fall. I have had some awesome catches there (size and numbers) fishing the bottom on that spot. Maybe I can film something there this year. Good luck!!

    Great video ! How do you decide your bait depth ? What model is your kayak and fish finder ? Fish raystown and lake Arthur western pa. Never seen this set up ! Thanks for all the information !

    • @kreigadkins

      I have a Hobie Pro Angler 14 and I use a Hummingbird Helix 5 Fish Finder. This time of year the wipers should be suspended out in open water between 8-12 feet deep. You will see them on your fish finder as singles or maybe 2-3 at a time. If you fish from a boat you will have to shut your motor off and use your trolling motor on low to see them, the noise from the motors will spoke them at those shallow depths. You also want to look for big globs of shad, they will also be as those same depths. Once you start marking fish and bait drop anchor and set your bobbers at whatever depth you see the fish at on your depth finder. At this point it is a waiting game, the fish will find you. It can take as much as an hour for them to lock in on you but they will find you. As long as you keep seeing fish on your fish finder you are in the right place. Also if you see them feeding on the surface early in the mornings that is a good place to start fishing for them but you might have to wait till the wind picks up before they start biting good. it could be 8-9am before they start biting. Good Luck!!!

    Are you using a bobber stop somewhere on your line to get the 7'?

    • @kreigadkins
      @kreigadkins  Рік тому +1

      Yes, A bobber stop and a bead. I use the green ones from Walmart. Also I use 6 inch unweighted pole bobbers and a 1/2 oz egg sinker. this setup insures that my line quickly goes straight down and doesn't get hung up in the bobber. thanks for watching and good luck!

    Everytime I try to put one on the hook it falls apart.. can't get them to not fall apart.

    • @kreigadkins
      @kreigadkins  Рік тому

      You want to make sure that you are buying cooked mussels. Run the hook thru the hard part of the mussel once then turn the hook 180 degrees and run the hook thru the bottom of the mussel. If the mussels are to small to hook twice. Run the hook once thru the hard part of the mussel and put two mussels on the hook. You can not cast it like a lure, you have to gently toss it out. If you need to make a long cast you will need to add more weight. I throw them off too some times, because I put to much arm in my cast. Keep at it you'll get the hang of it. Good luck and thanks for watching.

    I'm wanting to get into Wiper fishing out here in Colorado where there is a lake nearby that is supposed to be full of them. How do you set the bobber to a certain depth? Also, do the mussels seem to work all year long? Thanks!

    • @kreigadkins
      @kreigadkins  Рік тому +1

      You can buy slip bobbers and bobber stops at any Walmart. The bobber stop is the first thing you put on then your bobber then you sinker then you hook. Once you slid the bobber stop onto your line you pull the ends tight and trim the ends off. you can now slid it up and down your line and set it for any depth. This time of year you will find them suspended over deep water usually less than 10 feet deep. If you see the feeding on the surface that is a good place to start fishing. The mussels only work when the water temps are above 55 degrees. If go to my channel you will find many videos that will help you with your setup and you'll find a lot of useful information. Good luck!

    do you recommend a bobber vs fishing on bottom?

    • @kreigadkins
      @kreigadkins  4 місяці тому

      The lake I was fishing in this video has a muck bottom, I don't like fishing on the bottom in muck. However the monsters wipers will always come off the bottom and I will fish the bottom in rocky of sandy bottom lakes. Here's a perfect example.
