The only thing harder than reeling in a big wiper is reeling one in in super heavy current. So many nice fish on this day - It makes all the fruitless recon missions worth it. Those blue suckers do have a lot of weird dots on them. Almost like goose bumps or light sand paper. Really strange and unique fish.
Wow , My favorite spot but usually full of ppl. Like the cats right below those turbans , but this year always 3 or 4 ppl at the wing white bass fish;n.
Nice fish! And commendable dedication! Getting skunked sucks, but it's all about persistence. You were rewarded on this day! Question: what kind of jigheads are you using? (Sry if I missed it in the video)
Thanks! The persistence definitely paid off! 3/8oz jig heads with Gamakatsu hooks. My buddy here in Iowa makes the jig heads I use, he sells them on Facebook, look up Backyard Baitshop 2.0.
Im noob when it comes to wipers how do i fish them and what weather conditions do i aim for? Ive gone to this damn back in high school but caught nothign i want to give it a try get a wiper for 10 years redemption lol
Just depends on the time of year, early spring they are typically tight to the bottom on the river. Lightest jig you can get away with to keep contact with bottom without hanging up too much. Summer time are usually busting baits on top so look for that and fish fast. late fall is pretty much like early spring, slow and steady.

Grinded it out this spring for sure, it was a pretty good week while it lasted. The blue suckers are pretty neat for sure, got a weird mouth lol
Nice day you had!
Thanks dude

Yah it's a pretty popular spot, I avoid it on the weekends like the plague tho 🤣
Nice outing! It has been years (before the construction) since I’ve had a good outing there.
It's definitely more hit and miss since the construction, maybe less fish too.
Hey I think I met you yesterday at the spill way here in Waco
I don't think that was me dude, I was ice fishing yesterday 😅
nice job
Thanks dude!
Dang you're killing it. Talk about the twitch is the secret huh? Will try it

Nice catches! Im planning to go there next week, what setup were you using?
Just a jigging rod, 20lb braid, fluorocarbon leader. 3/8 oz job head and swim bait
As long as Iowa keeps up with their stocking these fish will continue to be around. Wish Wisconsin would stock these fish instead of musky lmao 🤣
Too much precious musky and walleye in Wisconsin 🤣 IDNR keeping up with the demand so far
Anthony Wisconsin do have hybrids. There is only 1 lake in Wisconsin by Madison.
@@xt6537 I haven’t seen it stocked in recent years. Head that program fell through… I may be wrong.
Anthony maybe your right and i haven't been there the last 2 years but I only hook up during the winter cause the water will be cooler.
We did have wipers at one point, but they all got fished out for the majority. Lake Columbia or as we know it, Lake Frankenstein!
Where is this spillway? I would love to fish the spot.
It's the Des Moines River
Pretty nice
Thanks! Sorry for the late reply 😅

Red rock??
Maybe??
You don't eat hybrids striper there good. Besides there plenty of them plus their stock.
They're fine but there's other fish I'd rather eat. I'm just lazy to clean fish most of the time 😅
