A bad decoration in my opinion. They suck millions out of the British economy. People go to The UK to see far more than the ..um.. 'Royal ' family. By the way, is their blood golden in color? Is that what makes those humans different.. Or..'royal'? What on earth makes them so much more than the what? .......'pheasants'? I mean, if they are royal..the rest of the people must be of lesser quality, right?

Why does everyone think Great Britain is the only monarchy in Europe? Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Monaco, Lichtenstein, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden all have monarchies. Montenegro has given their former monarch a semi-official role in government. Bulgaria's former king returned as prime minister.
Wow I feel ignorant and uninformed. Didn't know that .
Because Britain is more important than those countries
how about royalty of saudi arabia ? who will dare to speak against them ?
@@arnabkumarbanerjee8150 alot of people… they’re a bunch of thugs…
I know! Most of Europes governments are affronts to representative governments!
The queen can remove parliament, always apoints the head of parliament (usually goes with her subjects vote), refuse laws especially those involving rule of the crown (90s she denied a law being discussed giving parliament the right to use nuclear weapons without her consent), and is the sole individual that can declare war or agree to being allies with any foerign country (why else go abroad as a world leader often does). She has granted parliament and the church authority to act in her stead on many subjects as she is also still the head of the church. The military is hers, Her Majesty's Army for a reason as the soldiers all take an oath to serve the queen only, and she owns all areas of the land touching the sea and may comendere any ship for the needs of the crown within her waters.
She has authority, but understands it's often best to leave her subjects to rule themselves and hold her power for situations of emergency. She rules more as an advisor, though she can remove parliament at any time and force her subjects to re elect them until she gets the ones in office she wants.
Above all they don't even have to pay taxes! Why? I just can't reason why so much power for the royals in these times. The world is stuck in the past.
She owns all areas of land touching the sea and everyone is okay with that? I think a symbolic figure would always go with her subjects vote or risk going up against parliament and losing all her power. Interesting tho.
The UK crown isn't a symbolic station. It is still a feudal system with republic undertones. Why would the now King require himself to pay himself taxes?

@@jb894 its more like a pro-british republicanism
Yup
I thought it would be a more historical explainer on how come there still is a royal family.
Me too but it's a puff piece.
Me too
It was briefly touched on. King Charles the 1st in 1649 wanted absolute monarchy. Meaning he'll be king and in control of government. When he had his head chopped off during war, the new constitution meant royals no longer have control, only government. They survived over the years because they agreed and took a back seat.
I'm assuming Oliver Cromwell and his roundhead government have something to do with it or atleast part of it.
Because Cromwell did not finish the job.
At this moment the royal family in Britain is like confederate symbols in the south: people don't really stand for what they represent, but more for the cultural and symbolic meaning they carry; getting rid of them is like getting rid of their own culture.
Very bad analogy
This take is garbage

If they want to stay in reign simply make prince William the king after the queen dies
They’re basically just celebrities who have the ability to tax people
I think the q is why can’t they be more or live modest lives like Scandinavian countries ?
They can and that's what Charles want to do by slimming down the monarchy and getting rid of unnecessary pomp. Also, the Scandinavian countries don't have a Commonwealth with 53 nations in it among which 16 nations have the Queen as Head of state. This means more travels across the globe for the BRF compared to any other Royal families.
Because they are better than them
Because they are wealthier than Scandinavian countries, and have more duties. Remember that most of their assets are privately owned, and if not they come from their duchies which do not come from taxpayers. It makes no sense for them to remain royals since is more of a loss than a gain.

To say the monarch's role is purely symbolic is absolutely wrong, the Queen has the power to block laws and she indeed has. The British monarchy costs the taxpayer £1.24 each year as part of The Sovereign Grant Act.
The monarchy receives £69 million pounds of which most goes into the upkeep of the lands and properties including Buckingham Palace and to pay for official duties and staff. All these provides for the people in employment, massive amounts of tourism and for the cost of the change in your pocket every year.
According to VisitBritain, tourism in the UK linked to royal residences such as Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle adds up to 2.7 million visitors a year. Another statistic from consultancy Brand Finance said that in 2017 the monarchy contributed £1.8 billion to the UK economy as of the 25th June 2019 meaning a massive boost to economic finances making the monarchy not only self preserving but beneficial to all parties.
This means that by keeping a Monarchy we not only keep our history and heritage alive including having our firgurehead and national institutions preserved and with the added bonus of employment for thousands for the change in your wallet each year of which she in fact receives only a small percentage of public money. Also "the Royal Household is committed to ensuring that public money is spent as wisely and efficiently as possible, and to making Royal finances as transparent and comprehensible as possible" taken from the Royal website for finances.

The answer is simple: symbolism and historical continuity are an essential part of a country's life.
Monarchism is a symbol of inequality and imperialism, it shouldn't have place in a democracy
so the british are keeping real life people pushed into a role they probably don't really want and have little choice in taking, having them participate in an outdated institution with the name "royal" as if they are above others, having to do nothing at all to earn their position of power, just for "symbolism" and to wallow in ancient history?
