I was going to mention what you were saying in your very last remark. Every off-road rider should keep a 125 in their stable and ride from time to time to keep them from getting "lazy."

Pretty awesome that the X models sell out before the mx yz models. Looks good for keeping the X coming from YAMAHA. In 2018 when I was out to purchase my yz250, in August, I was told the yz250x was sold out in Ontario Canada, so I went with a yz250, happy I did, I love my bike, I put a 3.2 gallon Clark fuel tank, skid plate, protaper evo woods high bend, zeta full wrap hand guards, siccass head light and tail light, trail tech computer, and a set of shinko tires, mx216 fatty and 525 cheater rear. Maybe next year I'll swap out the 19 inch rear wheel for a 18. But to be honest I really cant feel a difference and I go everywhere and more places then my friends on the yz250x can go.

I have one and I ride harms enduro on it. All I did is add a weighted/flywheel weight. That help to make it more Stall resistant. Then turn you idle speed up. Jet it. And that’s it. Search for Roof of Africa. In 2017 or 2018 a Yz125x won the silver class. These bike are capable. Trust me 😉
Yes it is 6 speed and it does have a different final drive compared to the regular 125. The 125x runs 13/50 which is a bit lower geared than the normal 125. It uses a 6 speed close ratio constant mesh transmission. Hope this helps
Different CDI. Different power valve/exhaust vale. different head setup/squish and I'm most likely missing a bit other than what's obvious. And last update to the YZ125 was 06, not 05. Was only minor, but, still an update. Something to do with a ball bearing in the shifting mechanism.
why do guys review an off road bike while riding it wide open on the pipe and over riding the bike.. Bike was designed to be ridden in the tight riding and lower Rev's. Rode KTM'S for years and went to YZ250X. Night and day. wont find an orange bike in my garage again. The 125x works amazing in the woods with just a simple gear change.
Waste of money when you can go buy a ktm 150 with hydraulic clutch , electric start, a bigger fuel tank and a platform that's actually been developed in the last 15 years !
Cable clutch is just as good. These bikes have probably best chassis in the market are cheaper to buy and parts are cheaper. Also no doubt yamaha is way more reliable

How about a new WR200 type bike ? Hell, build some more IT’s, a whole trail bike line up,I’d buy one in a heartbeat !
Because KTM owns ENDURO so they sell a 25 year old YZ125/250 (that 250 vibrates and is horrible)
What is the HP and what kind of range are you getting?
In Australia you can get them with a magneto and headlight for an enduro pack 👍

I wish the Japanese brands would step up and just build a competitive off road model.
