3 Ways to Start a Macrame Plant Hanger with NO RING

- Here is three different ways to start a macrame plant hanger if you do not have a ring:
1) Square Knots: 00:12
2) Vertical Lark's Head Knots: 04:26
3) Wrapping Method: 08:24
‼️IMPORTANT: To start the ring, I find the middle of my 6 ropes (they are 10 feet long) and I move up about 4in - 6in from the middle to begin tying.
After the knots get tied, you fold your project in half to form the ring and secure with a gathering knot. You will now have 12 ropes to continue making a plant hanger.

** I typically use 6 ropes in a plant hanger measured 10ft - 15ft long. For method one, the two extra ropes are 6ft long. For meathod two and three, the extra rope is measured 8ft long. For the gathering knots, my rope is 2.5ft long.

How much gap on the ropes do you leave before starting the square knots in the first method and even other method ? Also are your 6 ropes lying flat on the surface without being doubled .? Unable to see the top part in the video
I find the middle of my 6 ropes (they are 10 feet long) and I move up about 4in - 6in from the middle to begin tying. Sorry I forgot to mention this in the video! Also my ropes lay flat and are not doubled. Once you fold the knot in half to make the ring, this doubles the ropes. 😊

I have 2 kittens that were born the first of March. I am taking the time to train them to be good citizens while I do my various art and such. I give them a place they can watch but not get into stuff. Macrame seems to be the toughest for them.Its a work in progress.

Hi! The ropes are laying flat on the floor. I just secured them by placing a weight on top of the ropes for the demonstration 😊

Any suggestions on finishing a macrame “rope” of knots that will secure to a ring at each end? I’m working on a plant hanger with metal hoops at one end and a wooden ring at the other and I’m trying different methods. I’d love your input!

For the second, Did you cut a separate cord for the wrapping cord to make the loop? So if it calls for 6 cords you used a total of 7 cords at the beginning?
Was this cord the same length as the plant hanger cords or do you usually always use about 8feet?
Hi I tied to make the 3rd knot for my hammock swing chair but the weight pulled the wrapping knot out of the loop.
How can I secure it?
On the vertical larks head knots it looks like you start with the middle of your working cord with one side of pointing up and the other going down and that's the one you tie the knots with. What happens to the other half of that rope...the one that's pointing up? Am I making any sense?
So awesome! After you make the loop how much feet do you have left of cord? Thinking of making the loop and then doing another macrame tutorial for the hanger
My ropes were cut about 15 ft here, and then after the ring is formed they got folded in half. I’m not certain how much length I used to form the loop as I didn’t measure, but my guess would be about 1 ft. So after the ring is formed, the ropes left were about 7 ft long. Hope this helps! 😊

I used 6ft of rope for the extra pieces of rope that form the ring. The rope that is used to form the actual plant hanger is measured 10ft - 15ft long.

Is it ok to include the top end of the wrapping cord in the wrap? It would hide it.

So tge 6 strings are not folded in half and neither is the 6 footers they are ALL LAID STRAIGHT
Yes, the 6 ropes are laid straight. When you fold the ring part in half to actually form it, this will double the ropes for the plant hanger. 😊

I started my plant hanger by your first example and I love it! But now I'm having a hard time finding any videos to show me how to finish with one 6 cords. All the videos I see have at least 8 or more. Any suggestions?
Did you fold your 6 ropes in half so you now have 12 to work with? Take the 12 ropes and separate them into groups 3 groups of 4. With each group of 4 you can make square knots, spiral knots, or any design you would like. 😊

@@GrayWonders Thanks for the video but honestly I found it frustrating as a beginner because there was no mention that the loop knots should be done only once you've folded your 6 ropes in half. The video doens't show you the top, so it seems like it's just done at the very top of all of your ropes..... So, basically have to start all over again because there wasn't any mention of "hey btw, you need to start this in the middle of your 6 ropes, so that you can then fold them". Wasted so much time searching for ways to do a hanger with only 6 ropes, only to realize it has to be folded for 12....

Why do all of these tutorials have you finishing the vertical Lark's Head knot with a gathering knot? I don't understand that.
The gathering knot is used to securely hold the two ends together to form the ring. You can use other knots to do this, but I personally like the look of the gathering knot best.
