I love it when James chips in from behind the camera! It makes the videos feel a bit like it's just a bunch of friends down the pub together or something.
I always love when Luke just says something so quiet. It's always so funny and gets me outta nowhere.

James' oversleeping story gave me SO much second hand anxiety. I am so glad he made it!
Luke being the king of cats from cats and then inviting people into his castle to eat all the cats from cats is weirdly Sweeney Todd.
Outside Xtra's relationship with Fire Emblem is the same as that person you've worked with for years and still don't know their name.
You keep hoping to overhear it but never do and now it's way too awkward to ask. Made even worse when you're trying to ask someone else about them.
So on the one hand the Macavity Jazz Hands was the perfect cutaway to end on, but on the other hand I'm so glad they included James' story because it sounded like such an experience! I'm definitely more like Luke when I have to be awake for a certain time though, especially if it's for something like a flight
Luke describing serving up the Cats cat made me think of the dinner scene from "Rocky Horror."

All the Show of the Weekend episodes are great, but this was pure gold! Fire Emblem, Cats, and James story time! We’re being absolutely spoiled here.
Now to wait until the running gag evolves into these old mountain goats having to actually play a fire emblem game.
I rather like these two specific mountain goats. That aside, those fire emblem games do seem kinda cool, if "unique", and I'll never have the chance to play them outside of emulation.
At this point the topic of the week doesn't even matter anymore to me, I could just listen to these two talking about stuff for days 🥰

I find it funny and reassuring that Luke was talking about anxieties, sleep issues, and realizing how old you are, at this point in time.
I've been going through a lot of health issues lately, both physical and mental, and its been making the pre existing mental health issues i had worse. But it's also been causing anxiety spikes, sleep issues exactly like Luke said (wake up every hour on the hour), and has basically been causing an existential/mortality crisis in my head. I dunno it's just nice to hear someone who has his life together far more than i could ever hope to is having similar issues as I am; you always think the celebs you like don't really have those problems.
Hope you're doing better fellow Oxtra viewer. Listen to Luke's music, it's awesome - the song "Don't wait until 2016 to try therapy" is about his struggles with OCD and it is brilliant.

That story from James at the end was excellent
Squirrel Girl- from Marvel- offers significant evidence that being the king of the squirrels is the ideal animal kingship. Meanwhile, Krosp I- from the webcomic Girl Genius- provides evidence against being king of the cats because they don’t follow orders.

I love how pretty much every answer in this Fire Emblem quiz fell back to Cats.
Also James' story is why in always super early to the airport, and I'm super jealous of his trip.

Uh-the whole thing started when Luke wanted to be the King of the Cats. It ended with Luke wanting to kill and eat his subjects...sigh...And to add Insult to injury he wants to classify Cats as Fish. Cats eat fish, so, Loophole.Thanks for the fun.

I think I remember a video from a while back discussing games you never finished, or games you didn't like that most people did - and I'm pretty sure that Luke brought up Persona 5 as a kind of game where he totally gets the draw of it, but at one point the game introduces a character that is just so unpleasant and sexually exploitive, that even though within the fiction of the game he was just sort of oblivious and unaware of how uncomfortable he was making one of the other characters, it was still just, blech, and Luke ended up stopping the game and not finishing it, even though he liked a lot about the rest of it.
I bring it up because I feel like Luke might easily come to the same opinion if he were to try playing one of the modern Fire Emblem games. There is excellent gameplay to the series that they reinvent in cool ways each title, as well as some genuinely good and interesting character writing, but there is also SO MUCH of that kind of circumstance of 'the character in-universe has some explanation for why they are This Way, but the result is clearly intended to fit a specific kind of fanservice.'
Fire Emblem Fates probably has the worst of it, with characters like Camilla being central to the overall story, but Awakening and Three Houses also have plenty of 'ugh, please go away' type characters even if they're more on the sides - it's not always that same kind of Mega-Creep Factor, but it's definitely there.
It might not be the exact same thing of course, and either way Ellen may be happy to ignore that to dig into the cheesy anime romance + tactical battle setpieces, but if Luke ever DID decide to pick up a Fire Emblem game, I'd recommend he try Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. It's a remake of the second ever game for the 3DS, and it still has some dumb bad tropes, but not nearly to the same degree.
^I say all this as a longtime Fire Emblem fan since before Awakening. Love the series, played through most of the modern games multiple times - but I always have to grit my teeth through certain segments
Yes! Echoes is up there with one of my favorites! Not sure how Luke'd feel about Faye though, with the whole stalker thing (though you could just... leave her in town).
I assumed Luke would've ring-picked someone like Julia Child to help with a usable skill like cooking... and with their powers combined they would become an ultra-tall being of unimaginably awkward power.

Hey Oxtra, quality content as always! Just want to let you know the sacrifice I have to make by watching this episode, because watching it means that I have learnt something about Fire Emblem and I, ideally, absolutely don't want to.
It has been ‐0- days since OX has made a Cats reference.
I didn't learn much about the game... which means I can still keep on pretending it's a crossover with Star Trek TNG, with Picard being the headmaster.

No need to apologize for not playing FE. I got start with Three Houses and love it, but a single playthrough is probably 20 hrs and you need to do 3-4 to get all the story.
As someone with a completionist attitude and a careful tactical style i can say that 20 hours for me is lowballing it. But that could just be a me problem. 😅 FE:Fates was even worse.
But yes. Long games. Great Games. But long games.

So you have time to rewatch Cats (emphasis on REWATCH), but not enough time to play a Fire Emblem game.

Never missed a flight. Did walk five hours to get to one once.
Having a day to adjust is a great idea. It also gives you a day to actually get your luggage, which can be an issue, and in some places you can get a couple of extra nights in the hotel before the trip starts and after it finishes for £20, eat out for £5 a day and save £800 on your flights by going on Thursday and coming back on Tuesday.
I'm playing Fire Emblem Engage now and it's great to see all of the characters from old Smash Bros. Games
