In this video, Did You know Gaming takes a look at some facts, secrets, and Easter eggs of the Kid Icarus franchise. Kid Icarus is an action-adventure series by Nintendo. The first game, simply titled 'Kid Icarus', was released in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and was well received despite poor sales. A sequel, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, was also released for the Game Boy (GB). The franchise went on hiatus for almost two decades, but saw a revival with Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS. The franchise protagonist, Pit, has also been featured in multiple games in the Super Smash Bros series. Through our analysis of the series, we discover the series' rocky history.

Kid Icarus Uprising might just be my favourite game of all time. The fact Nintendo hasn't made a sequel to it yet is mind blowing.

+Gus 1 million units is pretty good sales specially for a relatively unknown series. I don't know where you get that info from, I've never neard Sakurai saying such thing
You can't force creativity.
Only Mr.Sakurai can make the sequel but he has been busy with smash bros. Plus he has illness that makes more difficult to him play and test his games.
I really hope Kid Icarus doesn't go another 20+ years without a sequel. I wouldn't even mind a remaster on Switch, it's easily my favorite 3DS title and I'd gladly buy an upscaled version.

Uprising is a masterpiece. The music, the writing (albeit, it's more in line with classic Saturday morning cartoons), the characters...
Also, Hades is by far the best Nintendo villain. The fact that he joked about running a child's parents over because he was distracted messing with his hair had me cracking up. And because he felt sorry for the child, he brought them back to life. As zombies.

The new villain will be Tartarus, the Evolved Being, a gigantic rock titan who plans to wipe out humanity and spread shadows over the world. He's even more evil than both Hades AND the Chaos Kin combined.

I'd say this game was underrated, but most reviews are between 8.5-9.5... Who am I kidding its still underrated.
Cons: Controls
Pros: My favorite OST of a game, fast paced action, hilarious dialogue, memorable characters, stellar gameplay and a ridiculous but engaging story that made me laugh, sad and just all around happy.
BrightTempest Graphics and art direction are good as well
I remember a "Pony" friend of mine comparing it to a PS3 game when I was playing it on my 3DS next to him, it must've been the pixel density even though it doesn't even come close to that scale of pixel/square inch, it's just that good-looking of a game.

When I was in elementary school I gamed constantly. I played games like Pokémon and Smash Bros every day. By the time I got into middle school I had kind of grown tired of it. Not to mention at the time I was going through a pretty big life change. That life change persisted up until I started high school. At that same time I had heard that Pit (who was my favorite character in Smash Bros) was finally getting a game. I got a 3DS and a copy of the game purely on the Smash nostalgia. IT BLOW ME AWAY! Everything about the game changed my perspective on what games could be. After Uprising there was no going back. I spent the next couple years finding and playing every game represented in Smash. Then I discovered gaming on UA-cam, learn more about the actual industry, made friends and realized it was more than just something to do for fun. Gaming was more than that initially realize as a kid, once I was back into it in my teens there was no stopping.

Martyn McMurray Well If you remember his back story, at least one of his parents needs to be something other then Human. I mean even if we did ignore his back story, wouldn't it be odd that Palutena feels bad enough to save him & give him wings, but not enough to give him wings that actually work?
Besides, why only Pit in that case? I mean parent's dying to save their kids from monsters as sad as it is, really isn't rarest thing for Palutena to see. Not to mention all the families that have to go thru that because of THOSE 3 years I imagine that only sky rocketed.
Not to mention all the endings in the last game, none of them come up as motherly. Although I do think she does love him it's more either like a big sister love or legit love love.
I really never got to know the kid icarus because i only played uprising and found out about the series in Smash Brawl
Jay Yang For me I was introduced to Pit & the Kid Icarus series through his trophy in Melee. I even remember saying to myself, "I think'd he'd be a cool character for the next smash bros" XD i never would've guessed it'd really happen!
Jay Yang Luckily for you, Nintendo will release the Classic Mini NES with over 30 games preinstalled, and the original Kid Icarus is one of them!
I think it's good that Brawl was able to do that for you - including him as a playable character seemed to make no sense considering the lack of games, but it looks like he did his job.
I first found out about the series when I was very young; my aunt had an NES with some Christian games and, well, must have thought Kid Icarus was a Christian one because of the angel on the cover, haha.

The best part about a Kid Icarus anime is that they can go in both comedic and dramatic tone directions, as it has full potential in either.

No they do not have a sibling relationship. Pit serves underneath Palutena as captain of her army. They get along well but not like a brother and sister would, especially since no brother would treat a sister the way Pit does Palutena

Palutena doesn't treat Pit like a son. Their relationship is basically similar to Peach and Toad, where in this case Toad is a lot more competent at his job and Peach likes to troll him a lot. In the English dub there is no romantic undertones
i beg to differ, i get the impression by the way palutenea treats pit ln the game examples would be like when pit is getting flattered by phosphora flirting and palutenea comments that he is easily embarassed, or when hades ask the reason on why pit can't fly and palutenea calmly says why, not noticing pit protesting, to me palutenea seems like the kind of mother who shows your baby's photos to your former bullies, she also seems to care deeply for his well being shown by how often she is being seen sending him food, and by the way she often jokes with him, (again this is yet another divergences in the versions in the jap ver she is a lot more kinder and is much less propense to troll him) she is always right there for him, actively trying to support him, even when her assistance gets him more in trouble than helps him

That's who modern Palutena is. You don't have to be a mother figure to embarrass someone you are that you care about that's close to you. Friends can do that with one another. Paluetena being a goddess means she has to show a lot of concern for her army since she's also considerate of the other Centurions as well
Pit is so freaking adorable. Uprising was great. I have the other two games on Virtual Console, as well. They're really tough!
Kid Icarus Uprising is so freaking good. I would lose my mind if even a rematered hd version was announced for Switch with a more robust online mode and multiple control options.

I love Kid Icarus, I guess you can’t say you grew up with it but I’m glad it was kind of brought back. I love all the characters and the story of Kid Icarus. I hope more games will come out, I know they said they won’t make anymore but who knows, sometimes we get lucky! You know, it’s weird to think a game that wasn’t so successful is actually pretty old, older than the Donkey Kong Country games, older than Sonic The Hedgehog, older then Pokémon and more!

you know what would be EPIC? an expansion/sequel to Kid Icarus: Uprising, where, in addition to Pit's storyline, you also get to play through a Dark Pit and Magnus storyline, describing what they did before, during, and after the events of Pit's storyline, including when Pit was a ring.
Loving all the Kid Icarus love in these comments. Easily one of my favorite games, and probably the most creative game I've ever played.

I didn't even realize it was Caddicarus speaking.
Uprising was the first game I was actually extremely excited for in a long time, the delays made the wait actual hell but by god when it came out I couldn't have been happier. Sakurai did such an amazing job on the series so I can kind of see why he wouldn't want to touch it again but we can all hope!
We should really push for a Kid Icarus NX game in the future!
