‼If you like day in my life vlogs or future weekly / monthly type of vlogs talking about what it's like trying to go independent / being "unemployed," please LIKE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE, and engage with videos like these! I'm giving vlogs another chance since many people commented saying they'd love more day in a life videos, but if a video like this doesn't perform well, I unfortunately can't keep making them as much, so your support would help these videos keep going! And if there're things you'd like to see included in more vlogs so that they are more enjoyable to you, please feel free to share. Thank you! ❤

It was very refreshing to see this vlog. I know sometimes it feels like the end of everything when you don't find the job ya wished or get enough money from freelancing, because mainly we never ever have other artists speaking out of those moments where they had to hunt for other jobs to live and else.
It gives more hope and like... real stuffs that happen in life. It helps welcoming them easier, I think!
      Thank ya for sharing!

Hmmm I don't mind a storyboard class, but I do wish there's a class online (or even in college in general; cause they didn't have this when I went 😑) that teaches how to do business/market yourself as an artist. 🤔

thanks a lot for this kind of vlog ! Animation industry is not only glitters and rainbows !
I work in the european animation industry for more than 15 years now, and I had several times of unemployment between two projects, from a few months to a whole year. I remember that it was the mental side that was the hardest. I slowly fell into the anguish of not being professionally adequate anymore, that nobody was interested in my skills and therefore I was just bad at my art. It gave me hard times, made me having insomnias or tears bustings moments. It was hard ! Even if I always have my own projects on the side, it doesn't pay the bills (even if we have a good unemployment system in Europe, at least better than in USA, thanks god) but here I feel it's much more hard to cumulate freelance jobs and industry jobs.
I hope you're dealing with all this kind of things better than I did ♥

I think what we need to do as artists is decentralize. Open our own studios, especially outside of Hollywood and Los Angeles proper. As a religious man, the writing was kinda on the wall: housing crisis, homeless crisis, crime, California fires, now the strikes. Media and entertainment should never have been centralized in one place; and even though networking is important, people shouldn't have been pushed to move to LA.
Many cities and states provide grants, low interest loans, and office and retail space. If you're not an LA native, go back home, be near family and ipen your own studio. Get in contact with some industry connections, and hire local talent as well who is trying to get into the industry. Make your own IPs, series and franchises. Thats what Vivziepop did, there are other original shows and series like Murder Drones and Porkchop n' Flatscreen. Then just sell merch of your IPs to further support your businesss: posters, plushies, buttons, stickers, props, shirts, pants, hoodies, more.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I totally agree that we should all be more encouraged to start our own independent projects!

I love your take on things. I'm not an artist but I adore animation and try to follow a bunch of indie artists and animators. I knew that it must be hard to break it out in the business and most are pushed to cluster together in the same city for contacts but I find it extremely dumb. Honestly, an art/animation studio can be built anywhere (infrastructure pending) as long as the creatives move there. It really just requires a handful of indie studios in Colorado or Texas or Michigan or wherever and if people are willing to move to that state for the power of LA to drop. I like Vivziepop's tactics of funding her animation with sales but I don't find it sustainable on a large scale or with multiple creators. The money I spend in Vivzie is money not spent on Lackadaisy or any other independent projects, money is a finite resource. Now if a small studio did their own projects and sold merch on the side while making money on distribution, I can see it happening. Lowkey, I've wanted to see something like Crunchyroll but for western animation (and not as shit or abusive).

@@The_Faceless_No_Name_Stranger why wait for someone else to make it, develop it yourself. Find other creators, learn to code and develop..I'm just you have some friends or a discord of folks you're cool with. Make an elevator pitch or at least ask for advice

Love the video! I think the studio mindset is a good approach for an online class. Most art classes I’ve took just teach you tips on improving technique or how your art can look more professional for your portfolio, so this seems an interesting route. This could even work for those who are trying to get their foot in the door. I’m also interested in the idea of finding a home as an artist because staying with my family during COVID has made it a little inconvenient for me to find any workspace. 😅

As for the blank pages in your next Meesh book (i havent picked up a copy yet so idk if youve done this already, if so feel free to ignore LOL) some of the manga I used to read as a teen would have pages in the back showing character bios with random fun facts about them that werent necessarily part of the story. Like their favorite foods, show & music genres, zodiac signs, origin of their name, etc. I liked reading those types of things when I was in middle school so if you dont already have them that could be something! :) or just funny "deleted scenes" or moments of the characters interacting in a more casual way.

Obviously due to time constraints while caring for my little I don’t get to hunker down and just art as much as I want but I’d still like more talks of this so whenever I do get chances to sit for it I have a focused area of things I can dive in on and pursue. For the blank pages, it's helpful to look at mangas/comics you may have enjoyed growing up and seeing what the creators included in their blanks. For example, I loved Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist)'s breakdowns of her daily life working on the comic or simply reflecting her views of the world, Eiichiro Oda (One Piece)'s breakdowns of some of his pirate ship designs, Tite Kubo (Bleach)'s lore pages, Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (Death Note)'s additional "death note rule" pages, and Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes)'s gag comics where he (the creator) will be negotiating and bargaining with Calvin to do something funny. Hope some of these ideas help.

I think fun employment as you put it which is a great term by the way is oddly the way of the future for certain industries. I mean as long as you're happy and you're paying the bills who really cares if you report in to a big company everyday. Sure it means greater risk as far as medical insurance and income streams potentially drying up but if you generated them in the first place chances are you can make more.

I also wish I had passive income plans to help me sustain myself in these times but it's hard to afford producing more merch for an online store when I'm already in a pinch, and I certainly do Not have the steam for hustle culture. I've done a lot of other stuff meanwhile, that might help me grow as an artist in my community, but none of it pays.. at all 😔😔
your vlog helps me feel more validated in how i've been feeling so thank you again for opening up 💖

This video is a little helpful but what I really wish I could get help with is knowing where to apply myself where I'll get results. I keep hearing, "You can do so much with art, you don't have to be a starving artist, you can do this this this and this to make money." But I get lost in, "Just because you made it doesn't mean someone will buy it." I have a hard time committing myself to unknown results. I have all these questions about the in between and no where to find answers. When I show my art to people they tell me how impressed they are and what I would be good at, but I don't know how to navigate the social systems to get myself there. I was never taught that stuff. It feels like everyone knows something I don't.

Not to mention certain social media apps kind of sucks. UA-cam seems pretty strong. But instagram is having its issues. Heard facebook is pretty good for finding more audience but its also an old app which isnt my favorite. Tiktok is good but also mind numbing for me.

Mewtripled, What do you think of Indie Animation on the internet, and what are your thoughts on independent projects?

    • @mewTripled
      @mewTripled  Рік тому +2

I think indie animation is great, although I sometimes here about the working conditions being questionable for some of the artistes hired to work on the indie projects. I'd have to look into it more to get the proper research though, but in general I'm in full support of people going independent

Quick question? Are you still be able to run a series while being a concept artist or you just have to be in one role only?; have you also have a thought about creating a video about making your own animation studio?
