  • This is how I use green lumber from the sawmill in our construction projects. Knowing a little about your material helps. Like wood type, dried or green, heartwood or not etc... I have used material straight from the woodland to the end result and am pleased with the outcome. Follow along on our main channel for the building of the homestead listed below.

That almost looks like springtime in the Smokys. We had some cold move in and actually feels good to us at least for a while we will enjoy it. Liked the work on the Norwood today. You all stay safe and have a blessed New Year . Fred.

Thanks for such an informative video. I watch a couple of sawyer you tubers that operate Wood Mizer mills but neither has offered this type of useful information.

I dont know if you are doing this or not, but when you change out that blade, run the head all the way to the end so you don't have to work over the log deck.
It took me about 3 years to figure that out on my woodmizer.
As always, excellent work on the video. Happy new year.

Richard have you talked to your neighbor Nathan Elliott of Out of the Woods over in Kingsport Tn? He has a blade sharpening machine and a setter,
Also he is able to saw more logs with his blade that your are getting, i know he buys all his blade from Joe Maine for Silver Tip Blades out of Georgia, he says he has the best price on sawblades. Nathan has his phone number on his channel on every video.
He might be able to tell you who will sharpen your blades at a reasonable rate.

Richard educate me but would it be a good idea to have a hand held leaf blower to help with getting the wood chips out? Happy New Year to you and yours.

I have one. I normally just dust off the machine because the boards have to be swept off because the dust sticks to them too much to use a leaf blower.

Wow Richard I didn't know the blades dulled so fast😢

Yeah, they don’t last that long. It depends on what type of wood that you’re cutting as well. Seems like I can cut an extra poplar log compared to the pine.

Great info and tips Richard. Have you tried Meizenheimer in Morristown for sharpening? I’ve heard very good things about them but I’ve only just acquired my mill so I don’t have enough dull blades to give them a try. I hear they do all blades so I’m planning on taking my miter and table saw blades there as well.

They quit doing sawmill blades about two years ago as well as a place in Jeff City that stopped also.

Hi again Richard. Two updates on blade sharpening. There is a facebook marketplace ad from someone in Mosheim now doing blades for $9. Also, I just purchased a sharpener and tooth setter set from Woodland Mills. It has 3 additional cams to sharpen most of the major blades available. Once I get acclimated to using it, maybe I can swing by and grab a couple of your blades to try. Since you milled my walnut slabs, I've purchased a 30 inch WM mill. I still owe you some promised labor on your projects...Have not forgot.

L O L, you don’t owe me anything I don’t know if the blades would be any good now the ones that I have discarded, which I probably have 100 of them behind the sawmill. But I’m glad that you got yourself a meal if you’re doing woodwork because I know that you will certainly love it. Was thinking about you guys a couple weeks ago hope all is well you’re in good health and having a great new year.

Do you resharpen the blades or do you just disregard them?

    • @OutpostReview
      @OutpostReview  Рік тому

I haven’t disregarded them because I’m still saving them, but they’re piling up, lol. Not sure what I’ll do with them but I guess time will tell. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend and happy new year.

500 trees for $1000 in blades ? $2 per tree ? Don’t sound too bad. Is that right ? Thanks
