This is just magical … resonating with me in so many ways and I am a Jamaican chick … maybe it’s the bassline … maybe its the effortless ease in her voice …it’s just the powerful gift of good music that transcends space and time and breaks all barriers and boundaries, cultures, class ethnicity , whatever else ! Dido safe trip home ain't and easy album. It's a beautiful album emotional and deep beyond people can imagine. Her most poetic work indeed.dido knows what she does best keep the balance of melancholy sadness and hope. This album is darker thoughtful and lyrically a poetry. Dido s vocal yes she doesn't have the range of Christina Aguilera but it's her ethereal melancholic voice that dresses and gives identify to her songs. And on this album spreads like a butter. Such a rich musicaly album after 7 years is on my top listening cds.northern skies in slow burner her most poetic lyrically. Love the beautiful arrangements and strings on this songs u almost ask to song to be 10 minutes longer. It's a song to listen while u r watching a sunset or u r in a forest it's like being in balance with nature. Beautiful haunting and emotional. She never sounded better like she does on thos album. Top song of course along with northern skies is Grafton Street... Quiet times... And u can almost hear a bit of Irish accent there to honor her long gone father. I know it's on the dark side but the album almost screams hope. That's why I admire here behind a happy melody she hides darker lyrics and vice versa. Northern skies flirts a bit with 70s synthesiser music. It's almost a non classical sounds at the same time. You have to listen to it many times to feel how deep this song and albums are. Personally Cuz I lost few relatives by cancer like Dido father I can sort of relate to the albums theme and lyrics. But don't let it fool you with her darker sounds what really beneath is hope. Ur Greek fan. Xox
So far it's her most introspective and most personal work. When it was released I was 15, I liked it but still thought her previous material was much better. Now, that I'm 18, I can't stop listening to it. Every song somehow relates to an specific event or emotion that has happened to me or that I have felt. The album is built for reflection, when you listen to it you need open your mind and soul, so you can capture its entire magnificence.
I love hill walking and hiking, I hiked to the top of Glen Coe in Scotland, sat there for a while put my headphones on, and played this song at the top. You can't imagine the emotions I had up there, this song fits my country like no other
Just saw your African twin. OMG... what a great piece of technique! My Dad had one with big aluminium cases and lots of stickers which took part at the rallye Paris-Dakar. I loved this bike but it was a little to high for me to do such tours like you with it. Congrats to this cool bike! And yes, Dido is one of my favourite artists, too! 😍👍🏻 Take care and have many wonderful travels with your bikes. Be blessed! 😇🙏🏻
Dido, I´m Brazilian and today a friend give me this CD, Safe Trip Home. And now i can say that its perfect ! I love this music... your voice... the bass... the skies... the blue... everything!! Congratulations for you and I desire all happiness and your life!!
Dido's Northern Skies is my favorite songs in her album " Safe trip home " .. Everytime I go to the beach .. I bring all her cds and listen ... She has a great voice ...
dido is one of those artists that never disapoints me, she is always surprising me with more great songs and great videoclips. Thank you so much for your music!!! :)
I know this song is talking about Northern England and Scotland. But, for me, it always makes me think of the wilds of Alaska and the tragedy of Christopher McCandless. I'd just finished reading "Into The Wild" and had watched the film based upon the book. If you've seen the film, this song seems to harken to the final scene of Chris succumbing to starvation, reflecting on his life and the events that led him to dying in the shelter of Bus #142. I have returned, to Northern Skies... Chris finally reaches Alaska for one last adventure before returning to his family and life. The Summer hasn't touched, clouds all pass above...Chris reaches Alaska's Stampede Trail in late winter and walks across frozen rivers & lakes. I have returned, to the somber grass, Of days too early to come, and too hurried to stay...Chris leaves behind the rush and madness of the cities and civilization for Alaskan wilds. I have left, a million stars and an ocean of light and clearly blue...Chris leaves behind the lights of cities he saw when camping in the hills. I have left the warmth of the Sun, a million adventures, not yet begun...Chris confronts the cold of Alaska and begins his walk Into the Wild. For once, there was beauty here for me, Under the wide northern skies...Chris relishes in the solitude of the Wild and living simply, reflecting on his life and solitude. How once, there was magic here for me, Under the wide northern skies...Chris becomes trapped by rivers swollen with Snow Melt and his Wilds are now a prison. I saw trees as green, and as dark as blue, heartbreak and poetry, the deeper wounds...Chris is struck by the beauty of Alaska's wilderness, he reads his precious few books, making notes and struggles with the emotional wounds he suffered by his parent's mental and emotional abuse. Now I know, this is lonely country, it leads me only back to the sea...Chris begins to reconcile his anger towards his parents, he misses his sister and the friends he has made along his adventures. He begins to think of home near the Chesapeake Bay and attempts to leave the Wilds, only to discover his path is blocked by impassable river currents and his supplies are now exhausted. The Chorus keeps repeating "How once, there was beauty here for me..." Chris now curses the wild landscape, barren of anything to eat and he weakens rapidly with little hope of rescue. He came for solitude. No one knows his whereabouts and he is slowly dying a terribly slow, agonizing death. ...The slow, rythmic beat reminds me of his heart pumping into Chris' ears and the silence his weakness from hunger, unable to even speak. ...Then a few more beats and an abrupt stop to the sound of Chris' heart.
wow so long 😮. in a rush so read bits but am intrested.into wild is intresting read . one can excuse folly as its human.Guys story is mix of folly and bravery imo.etc
@@ludekfierlinger4156 The book by John Krakauer is/was a discovery of Chris' time after college until his remains were found in Bus #142 and a little background of his wanderings and situation. Chris' sister's book (Carine McCandless) "The Wild Truth" answered a LOT of the deeper questions behind Chris' journeys and why he sought out the solitude of the wilds. Was he over confident; likely...Was he prepared; barely...Did he do it out of bravado or some macho B.S.; certainly not. He was a young man trying desperately to heal his psyche and come to terms with his upbringing and life over the past two decades. I think, in hopes that he'd somehow find and lead a more normal life and stop the cycle of abuse he'd endured.
Both video and music/vocals are pretty sweet :o) Her voice is like green hills and blue skies. The Goddess of all Time and Space prob. went and got this CD. I wish good things/experiences for Dido. It's cool that so many of you are not downloading pirate copies and buying the CD. That is one real way to let her know we love and respect her.
