    Thanks, Eric! Great tutorial. Lots covered in one video. I wonder if you'd ever do them as smaller videos in a series so finding the relevent info would be easier. I already knew all the stuff about transitions and white balance and fixing sound and was just trying to find the part of exporting today.
    I don't know why but the first time I tried to share (export the movie to my desktop) in this new version. It actually exported the un edited clip. I was already uploading it to youtube when I figured this out. I watched your video to figure out if there was some new way to share and it seems like you do it the exact same way...Not sure what went wrong but I'm trying it again right now! Hopefully it will work. I appreciate your videos your aloha wishes! : )

      Look in the notes on the video...he gave links to different topics in the video. Very helpful.

    • @mrgumri
      @mrgumri 8 років тому +1

      Agree w lets call divided topics as Chapters? I'm sure it would be a real pain to break topic down but if they were separated & indexed, it would be easier to find area we need more info or need to review...and for me, it would be about 10 times each! Good suggestion. I'd be willing to pay for something like a chapter breakdown.

    Thanks for this - extremely helpful. One question - when you have made 2 or 3 movies the library gets full of video clips from different projects. How do you keep it tidy so that you only see new footage or unassigned footage? Can you archive footage used in other projects (but where you want to keep the originals for any future editing)? Thanks

    • @DonnaDyble
      @DonnaDyble 8 років тому

      +David Bywater I'd like to know this too.

    • @tedanderson92
      @tedanderson92 8 років тому +6

      +David Bywater, +Donna Dyble, +Sarah Hawkyard Media can be organized into events. When you import media using the menu or the down arrow button, look at the top center of the window it opens. It reads "Import to:" with a dropdown. You can drop down the menu to select New Event, which you can then name. Then when you import media, it will be in that event. You can use media from any event in any movie, but it keeps them organized so that you don't have one big pile o' media.
      My workflow is a little different, and it helps me remember to organize media at the start instead of going back later.
      1) Open iMovie and select the "Media" tab at the top when it starts on Projects.
      2) Press the down arrow import button
      3) Choose "New Event" from the dropdown and name the event to organize your media.
      4) Import all the media you need, making sure your new event is selected at the top if you open the window again.
      5) When you're ready, select File, New Movie, No Theme as +Eric Timmer does above.
      6) You will now see the project-specific media in the editor, although as I said above you can select other events from the left side tree and use media from them as well.
      I hope this makes sense.

      +Ted Anderson hi thanks for the tip. But what about organizing videos after an upgrade.i just updated to Yosemite (finally) and notice that all my projects that's been finalized is lump up in one file called finalized media or projects. In the old version of iMovie I can see my projects separately but now it's all in one file . It's almost like one really long movie.

    Thank you for taking the time. I was totally frustrated after I spent hours cuting a video and then when I wanted - like I was used to - open it in iDVD it didn't work because iDVD was not supported on that version anymore. Seems I have not made a DVD in at least one update. So I updated to El Capitan. More frustration when iMovie looked different and the Apple store didn't offer a workshop. Thanks to Aunt Google and You I'm starting to get excited about all the fun features. Now, all i have to find now, is how to make a DVD of my movie :-)

  • @JoyGardnerRMA
    @JoyGardnerRMA 8 років тому

    THANK YOU, Eric! I was SO frustrated. Years ago I learned an older version of iMovie and made several videos and I loved it. But when the newer versions came out, I was completely flummoxed . . . AND angry! In fact, I was so pissed off that I just couldn't bring myself to learn the newer versions. I guess it's been about 3 years now, and I finally spent a whole day studying this video. I now feel like a Pro again! You did a great job. What a difference it makes! I wish I had gotten over it sooner! I guess that 10.1.1 is not such a bad version after all.

    This presentation was SO MUCH BETTER than what I'd watched an hour ago...Because, what I think what your saying is, play with the menus repeatedly to learn. Repetition hands-on increases anyone's learning curve. Just ordered a MacBook Pro & I thought the package included iMovie or another program may engender have been Final Cut Pro! Not positive now as I fainted when I got to the fortune it cost at checkout! Would like to see a video where you actually show the process and the end product--Perhaps, a 15 minute clip? Also, I got the impression, ain't no way to edit any video w/o USE OF A MOUSE. Unless I guess, if we'd use the old PC way of doing things with ALL Shortcut commands. Truly appreciate you doing this; there are so many of we "dummies" who may not necessarily want to post on You Tube, but clean-up our family history videos for posterity. Just think! You're touching a lot of folks' family memories; that a more important role than becoming POTUS in my opinion. It's certainly more humanistic! Thank again!

    Awesome! It's everything I needed to know to put a video together, seriously.
    This version of iMovie has a bit of a learning curve, and is a little intimidating compared to earlier versions, so thanks for this great video.
