Like your video. Technically speaking this is not a convex angle, but a concave angle.

Thanks brother, was going to use a straight file at first until I saw your video. Just starting out on how to use a draw knife so this really helped!!

My draw knife is slightly curved. I saw it at an antique store along with many other rusty gems that I simply had to add to my collection of tools! I only have sharpening stones, NO PUCK! NEED TO GET A PUCK!!! I am also needing to get a bench grinder & a few other essentials... Soon!!! I am hoping that, With practice, I can get my axe, draw knife & other tools as sharp as he got his draw knife!

Thank you so much for this video Liam! I was sitting at my kitchen table with my drawknife and stone when I saw you had a new video out! Haha perfect timing. Thanks also for explaining why to remove the material behind the bevel, never thought of that, and never had anyone explain that in all the sharpening videos I’ve seen. Keep up the great work, you and Cody are my favourite youtubers by a long shot, cheers.

Just ordered one of your stones. Thanks for the great videos, I was wanting to get an axe stone, for my sword, and some of my larger sharp tools.
Recovering from carpal tunnel surgery, but afterwards I want to finish up a big bowie, and then make a nice camp axe.
Again love the videos, and keep trucking!

I need to get myself one of those pucks! I made a drawknife out of a leaf spring and it's far from perfect, but it will hold an edge if I can get one on it.

It is interesting that some masters use flat (first ground concave) bevils in drawknives(but never convex). Iam referring to Curtis Buchanan and Elia Bizzarri.

Nice to see that you are in NC!! How would you modify the process for a an edge that needs more than a touch-up? I very recently got my first drawknife, an oldy but goody, and most of the blade does not have any biting edge. I suppose I could use a file to put an initial edge on it and then begin the process shown in this video. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I havent seen drawknives in this shape here in northen scandinavia. Are the straight drawknives a tool mainly used in America? The ones I know of have hadles in the same direction as the blade and mostly has a sligthly curved blade. Or maybe I am just mixing two seperate tools togheter.

Most of the European drawknives I have seen are slightly curved, I have a couple of old Peugeot Freres French made that are superb, I have yet to see a straight one by them.
In the UK curved versus straight seems to be about 60/40 in favour of curved in my experience.

Yes. You can just used sandpaper on a granite block to dress the puck.

Yep, once you've used oil on a stone you cannot use water on it ever again. I prefer water also but when I buy a new stone I always buy a bottle of honing oil. Quirky I guess.
