- The material behind the cutting edge is often more important than the actual cutting edge.

Like your video. Technically speaking this is not a convex angle, but a concave angle.
Great video, very helpful
Your the only one even wranglestar ,who mentioned sharpening behind the cutting edge.makes common sense when you think about it,,, great video.
Very clear and simple presentation left no question.
Thanks!
Well done. Thanks for taking the time to show this!
Sharp as a samurai sword
Beautiful shaving it takes when freshly sharpened. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks brother, was going to use a straight file at first until I saw your video. Just starting out on how to use a draw knife so this really helped!!
My draw knife is slightly curved. I saw it at an antique store along with many other rusty gems that I simply had to add to my collection of tools! I only have sharpening stones, NO PUCK! NEED TO GET A PUCK!!! I am also needing to get a bench grinder & a few other essentials... Soon!!! I am hoping that, With practice, I can get my axe, draw knife & other tools as sharp as he got his draw knife!
Thanks Liam, good instruction
Thank you so much for this video Liam! I was sitting at my kitchen table with my drawknife and stone when I saw you had a new video out! Haha perfect timing. Thanks also for explaining why to remove the material behind the bevel, never thought of that, and never had anyone explain that in all the sharpening videos I’ve seen. Keep up the great work, you and Cody are my favourite youtubers by a long shot, cheers.
Thanks. This demonstration was very helpful.
Just ordered one of your stones. Thanks for the great videos, I was wanting to get an axe stone, for my sword, and some of my larger sharp tools.
Recovering from carpal tunnel surgery, but afterwards I want to finish up a big bowie, and then make a nice camp axe.
Again love the videos, and keep trucking!
Thanks for the tip and knowledge.
I have a oldie draw knife it works but not great! Thanks Liam now I know the right way to sharpen a draw knife!! Going to make myself a new draw knife it's on the list!!!
I like that stone and drawknife!
Very helpful. Thank you
Thanks, this is a very good informative video.
I need to get myself one of those pucks! I made a drawknife out of a leaf spring and it's far from perfect, but it will hold an edge if I can get one on it.
Nice video!
It is interesting that some masters use flat (first ground concave) bevils in drawknives(but never convex). Iam referring to Curtis Buchanan and Elia Bizzarri.
Subscribed Great video
Nice to see that you are in NC!! How would you modify the process for a an edge that needs more than a touch-up? I very recently got my first drawknife, an oldy but goody, and most of the blade does not have any biting edge. I suppose I could use a file to put an initial edge on it and then begin the process shown in this video. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Your logo reminds me of Germanic runes, but then also it kinda looks like gear shift diagram for manual transmission :D
Nice video. I don't have a drawknife, but I plan on making one in the future. I just never find the time, there are more important projects all the time :/
That’s cool.

I like your profile icon. I am an Eagle Scout myself!
I'm just learning to use a draw knife what are the two different sides for?
Love your videos. Keep up the great work. P.S. is my axe done yet lol...
How much pressure would you say you are applying with each side?
What is the brand of sharpening stone? There were none on your website. Thanks!
Do you use a puck on curved draw knives too?
Hey so I was curious drawknife STRAIT edge brands, what are your highly suggested knives I want a 13in in 8 and a 5-inch drawknife for kindling size hardened fire Steel what brand/brands/knives particular do you like best I learned how to use them when I was a small kid.I was and still to this day when I see this I try to get in on it too I was addicted on the spot I love seeing the wood grain and the constant movement even though I'm just carving on a giant log. :) 😄
I havent seen drawknives in this shape here in northen scandinavia. Are the straight drawknives a tool mainly used in America? The ones I know of have hadles in the same direction as the blade and mostly has a sligthly curved blade. Or maybe I am just mixing two seperate tools togheter.
I'm a bit confused for the same reason
Most of the European drawknives I have seen are slightly curved, I have a couple of old Peugeot Freres French made that are superb, I have yet to see a straight one by them.
In the UK curved versus straight seems to be about 60/40 in favour of curved in my experience.
Sir do you make draw knives
Hey Liam, do those pucks ever need to be flattened? You know, like regular dual-grit sharpening stones?
Yes. You can just used sandpaper on a granite block to dress the puck.
I found the vid I knew you had one
1:32 safety first. Blade away.
Do you forge your own draw knives?
Here's a dumb question if you're going to use a machine to take off the burr anyway why bother with the stone?
let's support Liam to reach 100k.
Renniel Von Custodio yeah it's so crazy he doesn't have more subscribers. Liam you put out some of my favourite UA-cam content
He needs to improve the video editing and collaboration..
first
Yep, once you've used oil on a stone you cannot use water on it ever again. I prefer water also but when I buy a new stone I always buy a bottle of honing oil. Quirky I guess.
Why does it just have to be made in the old US of A ?.....
+Premier D
it's all about making murica great again...
Because made in USA means you are supporting US business, getting better quality, and not sending more money to china or other countries. Its called supporting the country.
Even if the product is sh1t .. you still buy it ?
