    I'm in Louisiana watching this video and I looked up and I'm proud my oak trees have a root flare visible. They are very old trees and I didn't plant them

    Well, you pretty much just “diagnosed” my 15’ Live Oak I had planted by an “arborist” last spring. I live in central Florida and both trees he planted for me (Florida Flame Maple and Live Oak) are not thriving… at all. I suspected they were planted too deep… and now I’m certain they are. The maple in my front yard planted after Irma is now huge and clearly the flare is obvious and the tops of the primary roots visible. It is very healthy. Thank you so much! Time to save my trees! 🙏🏼♥️

      Anyone can call himself an arborist. The word implies no specific education, training or degree. I guess you can be one if you know how to operate a chain saw.

    Love the video! I'm considering this tree for my back yard. Wanted to downsize my lawn and shade my back yard (I'm on a 1/4 acre). I planted two Gumbo Limbo trees, love that tree but Brevard, FL seems too cold. Two frosts the past couple of winters caused them to die back. They do come back but probably won't achieve maturity, so the huge area in my back yard is still wide open I want to stick with native plants/trees and have several in other areas of my yard. Listening to your video has helped me decide on this tree. Thanks so much, new subscriber!

      Yes the oak tree can take the freeze no problem and great shade.

      How do they do. I'm also in south texas and wanting to plant a couple trees on the property and these are the trees that keep popping up when I look for what tree to grow in my area. Do they do well in the south texas heat?

    Great video - I wanted to ask if you ever come across heavily circling roots from being pot bound and never corrected by the nursery and then going into the ground? I have seen a lot of trees suffer because of this and it stunts their growth and a lot of times they die.
    Man I couldn’t take it, it was driving me crazy wanting to cut that strangulation strapping from the stakes put down on that Live oak! If I lived in that area I would have made it a point to stop back in and cut it!

    Wow just planted two small 25 gallon live oaks and I didn’t even know the importance of the root flare location but when I planted them my father told me not too deep and I kinda had a small exposed part of the roots showing and I thought it wasn’t deep enough but my dad said it’s good it’s the tree’s “character root” is that another term for the root flare ?

    Hi, thanks for the explanation, I live in Sanford, and I have a live oak planted2 years ago in my back yard, and in a heavy wind it came out and landed all the way to my back porch, and my son in law and me put it back again, but it’s not pretty, and I feel it feels ugly and needs some vitamin or fertilizer so it could give leaves and branches but I don’t know what to do… and buy… I NEED HELPPPP… 🤪

    When is the best time to do this? Can the tree get oak wilt if I cut those roots? Thanks.

    oh it's fine - it will dig deep and break up the asphalt around it lol. they will adjust the area in 10 years to use about 8 more parking spots.

    You don't need a knife to cut that rubber strap from around the trunk, just unwrap it 🙄Poor tree.

    • @TheHivefl
      @TheHivefl  5 місяців тому +1

      Nah it was tied super tight before the tree expanded into it. It’s a strap, like thick fabric like a ratchet strap. It was cut though, tree has no sign of damage now.
