Yeah, Altzheimers sucks. My Grandma at the end of her life was in a special facility for Alzheimer patients, where they could go where they want, do what they want and were taken care of till the end. We still visited here but her mental an physical state were declining rapidly. The hard thing is to accept the disease, to accept that your loved one isnt going to remember you or the other members of the family. But you still remember and you still can tell her all these things.
So glad to finally get to hear more about Yannis mom. So tragic, but it feels so good to hear someone put what ive felt into words. It means alot! Lost my dad do alzheimers. I kinda missed 7 years of life due to being a caretaker 24/7
ya know this is a really hard hitting episode. even for me being in my early 20s and my parents being in their late 40s early 50s. it’s so hard not to think about the future. makes me wanna spend more time and moments cause you never know. thank you sickler and yannis🖤

I went through this between my grandmother having Alzheimer’s and loosing my mother 3 years ago to breast cancer, the trama from loosing a loved one and being in and out of hospitals really something people don’t speak of often and it’s really impacted parts of a lot of peoples lives, very refreshing conversations of very heavy topics
My grandfather has Alzheimer’s and just recently had a stroke. My grandma just beat her second bout with Chemotherapy from ovarian cancer, they require a full time care taker and I try to fill in as much as I can. Life can always be worse, having to see them in such a state reminds me to take care of myself and enjoy the fact that I can do so much even minute things like go for a walk on a sunny day. It’s such a humbling experience. I’m such a big fan of Yanni and even more so after having him share this!
Yannis nailed it. As someone who has gone through this process with a grandparent with dementia, it is always great to hear candid conversations about how difficult it is to navigate. Thanks for this platform Ryan, these stories get me through my honeydew moments.

I've worked with developmentally disabled people for the last 16 years and it is mentally draining, but also the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Currently I'm burnt and stressed beyond belief. The last couple of years have been really hard. It's nice to hear someone acknowledge it. I've never looked for praise doing this, but hearing someone acknowledge it always makes me feel good. 😁👍
Great show!! Thank you both! My Grandmother passed the same way. My favorite memory was siting with her holding her hand. She then asked my name and I said I was her grandson? She said, " Here I 'am holding a young handsome boys hand. (laughing) Please tell me about yourself because I'm to young for grandkids!" I held back my tears, and we talked and talked. Now he is sitting in a nursing home, losing his mind, body and faculties all good, his mind going. Tells my dad he wants to go home. Forgets his wife is dead. It’s tragic man. This podcast meant so much. I get it! I got a double shot, my mother (stroke) and grandmother (old age). At the end, I had hospice nurses crying when I came in to visit them both bedside. Thank you for describing all the hurt, frustration and helplessness this cruel disease brings along with some humor, you guys are the best!
God damn this was a tough watch. My grandpa had dementia for years. My mum would visit him every day for years. She has an acquired brain injury and her mind seems to be declining and she's only 63. I've been crying and laughing throughout this. Thankyou Honeydew 👍

My brothers and I went through the same thing Yannis went thru. It’s crazy because me and Yannis are about the same age and both from Brooklyn. The only difference in my experience was I refused to put my mom in a home. She passed peacefully in the home she raised me in. All the feelings of guilt, anger, and frustration….you will feel all those things. Now I’ve definitely reconciled my guilt because like Yannis said, we’re only human and you have to put on the oxygen mask first, before you can help you’re loved one. I appreciate Yannis really digging deep on his experience and describing the emotional toll he went through. My brothers and I definitely relate. From one fellow New Yorker to another, wishing many blessings and prosperity to you Yannis. Plus, love your special….top tier comedy. 💪🏾

The thing that bothers me the most about this is that there’s a good chance that I’m going to have this and I wont know that I have it and I’m going to be a huge burden to my young daughters. Wow...heart wrenching, Yannis. Saw this up close and personal with my grandpa. Thankful he was cheerful through the end, but what a terrible, awful disease.
My grandmother is 5+ years into dementia. It’s wrecked my mom at times and just been generally difficult on all of us. Thanks for talking about this, Yanni. It’s genuinely valuable for folks experiencing it.
