I love what you do Dave! I've learned so much from you. Thank you for the education and the opportunity to hang out with you. Because of your tutelage, I am considering making a shop in my garage. I appreciate all of your videos, but I'd like to see more about making your famous SANDWICHES!

The big fret slots are from old flat wounds. PS that wood bridge wont intonate with a unwounnd g. It was not built for 11s or 12s. It was was made for a wound g and giant flat wounds. Good Luck.

Smoked meat lasts longer...ever tried flugger fluren 37? i used it many times to remove the yellow from smoke of painted walls, its very hand friendly and works magic on tobacco, thin with water wash and dry off,and you have the white in sharp contrast to a yellow brown wall.

Awesome cleaning job Dave.... I remember doing the same with my '78 Stratocaster. Not much luck with conventional Geetah cleaners from the geetah shops.. but very good success with Roson lighter fluid and a car polish product called Nu-Finish. (its not Citrus or patroleum based). By the way who's Quincy?... I remember Lassie and you remind me of Inspector Gadget hee hee (compliment) The guy who installed the new frets probably was like you, on a tight budget at the time.Great work by the way :) Never Dull is the Best!! Hand Condoms are the best!!

I once saw a Les Paul Custom that had been White when it had left the factory. Later in it's life decades of smokey bars had turned it to a sort of mustard color.

Dave in the last video you wanted a dial indicator string height gauge for bass. Your favorite US overpriced supplier that starts with an "S" has one for bass. Too bad they do not offer just the lower part and you can change the dial indicator from one to another.

White vinegar and warm water mix it up 5-1 ratio spray it on in a very light mist and rub lightly and repeat until the tar is removed.

Thanks for the great video! I always appreciate the time you spend explaining the thought process on repairs. A friend's got an ES125 of the same vintage, but alot worse for wear. The 2 piece back came unglued years ago and the braces are sliding around in there. Are the 2 pieces glued back together before the back comes off, to keep the positioning of the pieces right? Looking forward to part 3.

Over here my gas bill increased by 40% in just a year! Price was the same per m3 but I suspect that the caloric worth of the gas itself dropped significantly! Going to install some meters this year before and after the furnace to verify what is going on.

I think your file will last much longer if you used very light pressure on it.i think from my experience is that it knocks the diamonds off of the glue.so try very lite strokes with your next one you buy.just a suggestion bud worth a try.

    Hey Dave
I was looking at those tuners for my 2015 les Paul special, to replace the robot crap that came on it. Do you think they well fit?/ be a suitable replacement? I like the vintage three on a plate style with white keys.
    Cheers

$80 Dollars for a Custom NUT? Wow, I have been charging only $40 dollars for a Bone Nut. Am I getting screwed or is the cost of custom work in Canada so high? Maybe due to not many repair shops around? I mean I'm not taking a rectangle piece of bone and doing the shaping from scratch. The Nut has been pre-shaped at least. Let me know if Im too cheap?

    Dave,
Does your secret recipe work on all finishes (nitro vs. poly). That stuff seems legit, cause when you wiped after the cleaning no more brown came off.
P.S. You probably don't want the clean the body if it has a tobacco burst finish. ;)

  • @urbanweekendwarrior7238
    @urbanweekendwarrior7238 7 років тому

How do you determine if a guitar is worth this kind of labor? Based on what the customer is willing to fund, guitar's original value? something else?
I just wonder because this is obviously a lot of work- and in my experience, cleaning smoke residue off things is pretty much horrible. And the things I'm cleaning are usually metal, so I can use acetone/nastier chemicals.

I hate to tell you after the fact, but regular old 409 or Fantastic either one is the best thing in the world for taking off cigarette smoke. Literally spray it on, wait 15 to 30 seconds and wipe it off. Then wipe off the 409 / Fantastic with a wet cloth and then a dry cloth. Nothing to it. You can do the whole guitar in less than 5-minutes. The smoke just melts away slick as anything.

Bill Seper it can't be any more harmful than windex is on it.just let it set to let it evaporate before you wax it.if it has checking that is.if it has no checking it don't mater.

Mingus what would make a difference about what kind of stringed insterments it is or any piece of wood with the type finish this has for that mater.use your knogan for something more than a hat rack.

Fretboard vs Fingerboard. Fretboard is a better descripition of what is on most guitars. It is a fingerboard but it has frets. Fingerboards are like virgins not slotted or penatrated.
