- Passengers on the upper outer decks look out onto the approaching land, as the Queen Mary makes its way up the river Tagus estuary that leads to Lisbon. On the estuary's south bank new towns have been developed. Land shots are intercut with close- ups of passengers observing the scenery. The sights of Lisbon come into view: A tower built in the 16th century; a modern statue of Christ, built on a hilltop, and modelled on the larger Rio de Samiero statue. On the waterfront lies a monument dedicated to Dom Enrique, founder of the nautical training school and one of the discoverers of the sea route to India.
Passengers (including the newly-wed couple) step off the ocean liner and board the waiting ferry which will take them to the main part of Lisbon. Approaching historic Lisbon, the Black Horse Square can be seen. The newly- wed couple survey the Black horse square, which is full of daytime traffic. Close- up of the bronze statue of man on horseback, Don Jose sculptured by Maschado de Casto(?). Close- up of arch which has human representations of Glory crowning the Genius and the Virtue. The married couple walk through Rossio Square, which has a fountain in its centre. They walk up to the flower stand, where the flower seller picks some flowers to offer the couple. The wife lowers her head to smell the flowers and decides which ones to buy.
Looking down from Rossio Square there is the almost mile long Avenue de Libertade(?). Close-up of monument in this avenue. Various parts of the large monument are focused on, which was dedicated to the Marquis de Pombal.
Shots of modern part of Lisbon with its blocks of flats. In contrast old city buildings smaller and with narrower cobbled streets. A man wheels his motorbike up the cobbled street, while behind him a tram fast approaches. In the street a woman cuts a chunk of fish to give to the waiting lady customer. Close-ups of inhabitants of old town: a little girl gazes out of ground floor window; a rotund middle-aged woman smiles at the camera as she walks in the street and an older woman sits behind a door, which has an opening from which she looks out.
The married couple survey the outer part of the Lisbon bull ring. A poster indicates forthcoming attractions on Sunday 5th April 1964 in the bull ring. Other parts of the bullring are decorated with posters/pictures of bull fighting scenes.
An elevator slowly makes its way up one of the seven hills in Lisbon. From one of these hills a panoramic view of Lisbon presents itself. The camera pans across the views of the city, until it reveals the married couple looking at this sight. He has his arm tightly around her, while she has placed her head on his shoulder. Next the couple walk through the castle grounds of St. George. From the castle they can also view Lisbon below. In the castle grounds white peacocks walk about, while in a small pond flamingos paddle in the water. The couple walk up to another part of the castle wall which looks out onto the sea. The man bends down behind an old cannon on the castle wall and pretends to fire, while his wife watches.
Nightime shots of Lisbon Rossio Square, The National Theatre and a city street.
Aboard the Queen Mary, on the bridge, an officer looks out at sea. Passengers engage in playing shuttlecock on the outer deck. Other passenger relax on reclining chairs on the sundeck. On the promenade deck staff serve the passengers with afternoon tea and pastries.
The married couple standing on outer deck look out onto the approaching English coastline, with the docks in the distance. Again he has his arm around her, only this time both are wearing coats to keep out the cold. Shot of the tugs in the sea followed by a close-up of the now shivering newly-weds. The ship approaches Southampton docks.
