  • In this video we ride the "Tail of the Dragon".
Remember, the Tail of the Dragon is 318 curves (many hairpins) in just 11 miles!!!
Over the summer in 2022, we took nearly a 1700-mile trip that included a stop at "Ivan's" (If you know you know) to get the ECU flashed on our FJR-1300. On the way home, we were so close Deals Gap that we extended our trip to include it.
Here is some interesting history for the Tail of the Dragon:

You want a scenic twisty road? Try Northern California's Hwy 36 to the coast. Warning sign at Red Bluff shows Windy Road, next 140mi. I don't know who counted but it has 1,811 curves.

I’d be making faces too… especially when on that yellow. And I doubt they felt pressured by your slow ride cowboy

Thanks for the feedback. My awesome cowboy noticed that one of the riders in the couple in front of us was obviously a new riders and tried to give plenty of space as a courtesy. I’m sure you’re also aware that camera lens and angles can affect what we see and perceive in the video. But yeah he’s not afraid of riding close to lines on either side of the lane.

I’ve ridden the tail several times. Twice I’ve been split by crotch rockets, in MY lane, one to my right one on my left! You rode left of center several times. You’ll pay the price in those hills one of these days!

Also, I wonder what event was occurring - there were a ton of Shelby Mustangs on the road.

You know I really didn’t think much about that …the tail of the dragon is popular for all vehicle enthusiasts

Cool! But why I wonder why today's riders think they always need a GPS map screen glowing up in their face. You know where that road is going, right? You're already directly frying your neurons with bluetooth 2.5ghz microwaves in your helmets. Bluetooth was designed for wireless printers, not for slow-cooking human heads. 4g and much more so 5g, use highly mutagenic frequencies that frag your DNA strands. I'd shut off the slave labor produced iphone when you don't actually need directions and just ride the thing to your next stop. 😉

Interesting feedback, thank you. We use GPS on our phone for navigating new areas like the one in this video. Additionally we use the map as a safety tool. It helps see decreasing radius curves, side streets in or after curves etc.
The information on radio wave dangers is something we look at not only while riding but at home as well. When it comes to riding we feel the benefits of excellent communication with passengers, co-riders and increased safety in navigation is a reasonable compromise. There are times we do enjoy riding in pure form, no navigation, music, phones etc. I think you provided thoughtful information with positive intent. Again thank you for watching and providing feedback.
