I am from Texas and discovered Maastricht 20 years ago and have made a point to return each year for a visit. A few times I have stayed 3 weeks so it is kind of my second home. The city is very unique. If ya can rent a bike and ride outside of town a bit. Just stunning scenery. The food in that area is very good as well. Its pretty cool when a Texas guy like me can walk into a bar in Maastricht and someone calls me by name after a year away.
Do you know the pub "The Duke" in de Koestraat? When I was a student, there was a Texas guy called Robert a lot of times hanging around. Well, long time ago, but I think, you will also like it there!

Good video work. I like that you show the everyday sights and sounds rather than focusing the camera on yourself and talking, endlessly. I'd love to go visit there this year but that may have to wait (wanted to see Andre Rieu but the summer shows are postponed until 2021).
It might surprise you to know that Maastricht, Netherlands has been captured by Google in their 3D photogrammetry imagery. For the most part it is undocumented as such. What that means is that one can visit it in the newer Google Earth's VR version (virtual reality) and get complete 3D immersion. I did just that. Nice city. I just found out Utrect is that way too (undocumented). Up to now about 30 cities there have been documented as being in 3D. For non-vr users check out Google new Google Earth Studio and you will see why that is so important (drone coverage without a drone). Update... Breda, Tilburg, Goirle, Leewarden, Apeldoorn, Zwollem, Hattem, and Alkmaar have been added by Google to their 3D library as well. This brings my total to 40 cities captured in 3D.

Ik had graag wat meer aandacht gehad voor de bijzondere natuur ( planten en vlinders) in het Popelmonde en Jekerdal richting Kanne en de St.Pietersberg en even de grens overwippen om de Wallonie te bezoeken bij Ternaaien. Een min puntje is het huren van een fiets bij het station, waar maar liefst een waarborgsom van Euro 100,--- wordt gevraagd ivm diefstal? Alsof wij uit Brabant komen om een fiets te gaan stelen in Maastricht met extra versnellingen, maar de eigenaar is niet van plan om een fiets voor minder te huren! Dus gaat nu onze eigen fiets vanuit 's-Hertogenbosch mee en bezoeken wij de bijzondere natuur in Zuid-Limburg, Maastricht en de Hoge Fronten!
Het Jekerdal is heel mooi begroeid en het zuiden is bijzonder met de Enci Groeve en de wijngaarden ....het wordt begrenst door de Maas en nog een kanaal die de grens van België is ..

Hi, this shot was filmed on 5 May 2018. On that day the European institutions (of which there are a few in Maastricht) had an ‘open door’ day. This is why the European flag was flown that day.
Also there is a simple matter of protocol. All national flags are to be treated with respect. Therefore they are only to be flown between sunrise and sunset or from 08.00 till 20.00 if sun rises earlier or sets later. You can leave them at night but then they have to be illuminated by two lights, so they are never in darkness. Other flags like EU, provincial or local can be left during the night. So at a place which in a monumental building is quite hard to reach, it is practical to leave these three flags on most days and only fly appropriate national flags on special days. Today, September 13th 2019 for example there is a Dutch flag in the middle and an American flag to its right, as these days the 75th anniversary of liberation by US forces is celebrated. The host country's flag is always in the most important place, the next to its right. I am quite sure the staff will lower the national flags on time. Also there is a local tradition at city hall to fly the national flag of a country which has a consul living in Maastricht on their national holiday.
