It looks like an modern version of the 1st Gen apollos with slightly improved Converters and a bunch of gimmicks like auto gain and sonar works. At This point I don’t see why you need upgrade over the OG X series which I already it have. It already sounds great and millions of records have been made on the previous gens. We reached studio grade converters that’s capable of recording industry standard years ago. It’s starting to feel like Apple Cash grabs at this point
Great video love question you asked about the gen 1 thanks 🙏
Now tell me about the converter vs Apogee Symphony MKII or Avid Carbon Hybrid?
Auto gain, sonarworks
both are marketed as ( the big new features ) BUT BUT BUT
it is a software thing not a hardware feature
I mean autogain is not retrospective, it is not a protective layer against distortion it just listen and then give you a " RECOMMENDED " gain settings
sonarwork is already known software for monitors frequency response curve correction
so what is the new? slightly improved converters?
Honestly it feels like nice addons but as I’m using a Twin Duo Interface there is no need to upgrade.
Solid addons, definitely, but I wished they would have integrated better / more DSP Power.
Auto gain and sonar on master bus is definitely something that can be patched into console for the current Apollo x line I'm sure but they want us to buy new converters to unlock this feature? SMH
Didn’t the UAD representative in the video mention that the software upgrades will be available for both Gen 1 and Gen 2?
@itskarimomran the sonar will but not auto mic gain which I'm sure is pure software
You don’t need auto gain, if you know how to use a preamp and compressor. Is this really UA now ? Did Bill Jr leave UA or something?
Also you improved the DA without improving the AD ? That’s pointless, for recording sources. Good luck , seems like a money grab while other interfaces have improved across the board.
they increased the price by a lot just for switching the interface color back to the old ones. nothing new. so disapointing. way better options at that ridiculous price
No clear converter upgrade
Hang on, Auto Gain has been around with RME, Audient and others have had this as standard for ages. Room correction by Sonarworks integration is already on RME TotalMix FX. Unison has been part of UAD for years, why are we talking about this like it's a new thing? The one thing I would've expected is a massive update in DSP power. But, NO, where's the modern day processors? If you haven't upgraded the Processing power/ CPU's, why are you even bothering? Before you buy this, get a demo and a good idea of the amount of UAD plugins you can use at any one time. It's a lot less than you'd minimum expect. UAD are a bunch of dodgy snake oil salesmen. But they're brilliant Snake Oil salesmen. Nothing worth it here. UAD is so behind, their old plugins keep getting rehashed and given a new face and marketing and the one thing the market has been waiting for in their Apollo range is glaringly missing.
Love uad!

Another question, Why UAD does not have a program to bring your old unit to upgrade to newest unit?
