ABOUT ME:
My name is Shelly and I’m a 46-year-old web geek that jumped off the deep end into the makeup and beauty world. I’ve got normal to dry skin, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage. Cameo appearances by my rescue cats Daffy, Polly, Ziva, & Merlin (RIP 2002-2020).

Clinique, Bare Minerals, and Estee Lauder always bring me back when that was the only real makeup you could buy besides dollar drugstore makeup. I always think of my grandma teaching me how to wear blue gel eyeliner. Throwback with Clinique! 🤣🥰
Love, love, love the shorter hair, very becoming you look so much younger when it's shorter...😊
Love this product. Picked it up yesterday from Shoppers Drug Mart and for my dry skin it looks amazing and doesn't settle into my fine lines. Clinique products never disappoint me.
I’m late to this party, but just picked this up at Ulta yesterday after re-discovering an appreciation for Clinique products (their cleansing balm and mascara are the BEST). I like it! It’s very dark, I had to get the lightest color, but I like how easily it sets down and plays with other products. Looks very natural and I can use a decent amount of it (to get the SPF) without it looking cakey or oxidizing. It looks nice on you!
I think it looks really good on you! Didn't seem too dark at all. Your eyes look great as usual 😃
A lot of brands are coming out with a Sheer Tint Something-or-other these days... and with the amount of coverage they give me, I can get the exact same effect from wearing the Australian Gold Tinted Face Sunscreen, that gives me much better sun protection (and their new formula is not drying on my dry skin as long as I apply it on top of my full skincare routine). So while I like the trend to offer lighter coverage to those who want it, I don't really see a need for these products for me personally. This of course is not stopping me from watching every single GOoW review about them! 😁
Yes!!! I love this stuff. The sunscreen coverage is actually really really good.
Please tell us more about the sunscreen! 🌹
I love the Artless glow primer from Heimish. It’s one of my favorites! Did you see Wayne’s new video yesterday?!?! He’s releasing a new brush collection😍 I’m so excited!!
I can't wait for his new brushes!! They look amazing and I'm ordering them as soon as they launch!!!!
I agree. OK. I just had something come up on my instagram. I know nothing about this makeup brand, but GIRL, you gotta look at the packaging. Soooooo beautiful. Zeesea cosmetics. I want it just to have the lipstick tube and the blush to look at.
Oooooooh you know I love some good packaging!!!!!!
This is how I look wearing the Australian Gold tinted face sunscreen. Very very tan. 🙃
I have that one too. It’s so soooo pink on me...
The CeraVe hydrating tinted sunscreen has a warmer undertone, just FYI.. No pink..
Happy Saturday, Shelly!
I hope your weekend is going wonderfully!!
Another winner I'm interested in! Just may have to add this to my makeup drawer! Thanks for another great review!🤗
I actually wore the Misha BB cream for the first time tonight. I really loved it. I can see why you and many others on here love it! I hope everything is going good for you. I actually got dressed up and got out of my apt for dinner and an activity for the first time in a year and a half. It was so nice!
Thanks for all you do hon! Take care and big hugs, k 💗🤗
Yay for a night out!!!
@@goow yes it is! I'm still paying for it in pain today but that's ok it was really great to dress up again and wear a complete glam look and go out. It had been so long since the last time I'd been in a restaurant. Hopefully you get to go out on the town soon too... now that you're completely vaccinated! Sending big hugs, k 💗🤗
I have been watching many of your foundation videos today, trying to find the right fit for THIS 59 year old face. I am used to more coverage and don't have any dry patches, although my skin can get dehydrated just due to age. BUT, I think I have settled on the Dior Backstage Face and Body foundation. I don't wear foundation that often, as I'm still not going out at all. But I will use just concealer on those days. When I do wear makeup, I like a bit more coverage than a skin tint. I enjoyed watching your videos today🥰
MAC Face and Body is a lovely, flattering finish for mature skin (I'm 52 and just started to learn how to do makeup). It works very well with other products like concealer, contour and blush etc. The large shade range makes it easy to mix two colors to get a perfect match. It doesn't oxidize, tint stays true all day.
@@jacquelynjones6364 I have also considered that foundation, but it doesn’t have as much coverage. An influencer/channel called “The Pampered Wolf” just did a video comparing the two foundations of you’re interested in seeing them side by side!
Which 2 did she compare? Or, .. if she just made this comparison in the last 7 days, I'll find it.. thanks for the tip!!
PS. I have ceased to feel that a good comparison is someone who puts One Foundation on one side of her face and another one on the other side. I think with the way the two foundations come together in the middle in the T Zone is a mess and you cannot separate them there and actually, a lot of people want to know how a Foundation is going to do, specifically in the TZone, where many people produce more oil than the outer regions of the face. Obviously you're not going to get a good report from either Foundation when they get mixed up with the other one there. Another thing is the human eye wants to see symmetry in the face so when you gaze at somebody, you may not really be able to see how one side of the face is very different than the other. Time after time I've seen a video where people will say,
"But it looks just like the other one (foundation) on the other side. There is no real difference."
@@KaraLey98 Mac Studio Face and Body foundation and the Dior Backstage Face and Body foundation. The channel is The Pampered Wolf.
@@Patti-1962, Thank you, and I like that channel🌝
I've had my eye on this one for a bit. I like how it contains mineral sunscreen and iron oxides instead of chemical filters. I've just ordered the new Colorescience Flex SPF 50. Supposedly it's supposed to even skin tone. I'm just to the point I want as much sunscreen on my face as possible especially when going for a light coverage product. If the Colorescience doesn't work out, I might have to try this one (layered over actual sunscreen)
So glad Ur reviewing this one and that I get to watch it soon after you put this video up. I love Clinique, and love sheer to light coverage so hope this gets an A or high B grade from U but I'm afraid it won't since mostly I see ppl complaining about not enough coverage and that the colors, especially the light shades aren't light enough. (Also some say it oxidizes) But after I watch the rest of this, I'll have a dependable description. BTW, the CC Cream which Clinique makes and that is popular with those who have worn it for years, also in the moisture surge family, got pulled from shelves in Australia, and this tint was put pin shelves in its place. Those who wore the CCCream found themselves with only this alternative, which of course didnt do the job as its too light in coverage to color correct. This started about 2 years ago. Sometimes, I wish I could help out people who can't buy what they want in their country, by purchasing it here and mailing it overseas to them, but I'm afraid of finding myself with a much bigger job than I could handle (after 4 - 6 months when my online, overseas acquaintance would want me to help out her friend too, who also has a friend, & another & so forth)
Still, I woul be glad to do it for 2 or 3 people every few months, those who need a foundation they were unable to buy in their country.
OK!! BACK TO THIS REVIEW. Sorry I was OT, and I'm glad you put this up!!☺🤗
I just discovered your channel and I am loving it! 😊 I especially appreciate the closeup shots of the foundation!!
Thanks so much for reviewing this- I’ve been wanting to try it
Thank you for the side by side color demo - the Estee looks best for me.
I love that eyeshadow looks real good!
Clinique does some things well. Their lipsticks and mascaras don’t irritate even my sensitive lips and eyes and their moisture surge moisturizer is my default all year round. That said, I’ve never had luck with their foundations and bb/cc creams because, like this product, the colors are always wonky.
I can't figure out their shades to save my life. :-/
Coincidence -- this what I have on my 70 year old face this morning!
Bummer about the shade range and textured finish. :-/ I'm betting that the Wet n Wild tinted hydrator would dupe this one nicely. :)
Just wanted to say, I love your hair! Super cute! 🤗
Thank you!!
Makeup Revolution just launched a new face and body foundation.... I will patiently wait for your review 🙃
ON IT! lol
Lovely! Thank you, you are appreciated
Yay! I've been looking forward to your video and this review!❤
Dear Clinique: that’s not light.
LOL right?!
@@goow I know people are told to match their own skin, but you do look better in slightly darker, like this one. Sorry to go against the general mantra. BTW the Clinique "yellow moisturiser" without tint is really good.
Do you mainly test light coverage foundations? I'm more of a medium to full coverage kind of girl but sometimes I like a light coverage, especially during the Summer. Would love to see some medium to full coverage foundations too!!
No, she has tested full coverage foundations before. I think it's just how they come up in how she evaluates them. Check out her website for the others and you should be able to search by coverage and then when you find the best ones you can search for them in her videos to see how it went on. Hopefully that made sense and is helpful.
Take care and big hugs, k
Hi Chandra! I'm a medium coverage girl myself! Here's the master list - I have over 200 foundation reviews of all different levels of coverage :) geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
Thanks for the review. Hopefully we didn't notice Pat's new release today....
LOL I intentionally deleted the email before I read it because I'm going to Vegas next week and Pat would ruin my gambling stash! 😂
@@goow 😅😂😁
Definitely a good review, and looked nice on you., specially outside in your yard. Yes you do look tan, and your hair is darling, just darling 🤗
I have the Clinique moisturizing BB gel from last year. I wonder if they re-formulated it into this product. Great video as always Shelly!
I wonder!! It would not surprise me.
Oh gosh, I’ve spent a lot time with you thinking about tinted serums today lol. Thanks Shelly 🍃🌷!! Have you tried Trinny tinted serum? It’s at a price point where I’m ready to rule it out, but would still love to know your thoughts.
I just bought the MAC face and body radiance in shade 1 C and it’s still pretty yellow. More so than the original which I have in 1N... I’ll try it out in the morning 😊
MAC's W shades are the pink undertone and their C shades are the yellow undertone.
IT CC Cream has a lightest shade with a YELLOW undertone as well. It’s FRUSTRATING, as IF all fair skins ha e ONE undertone-NOT!! I LIKED(past tense) the Elf CC cream INITIALLYbyt it is IRRITATING and ends up CAKE-Y-BACK to the STORE with THAT one. Clinique generally tends darker than the shade APPEARS to be. I’m not the fairest if the fair, but am CLOSE. I usually have to go Estée Lauder for a good match. Drugstore??!!! NAH!!!
Totally agree. I think most fair skin tones have a cool undertone so I don't understand why they wouldn't include one. Also the fairest shade of the WnW tinted hydrator does have more of a cool undertone, Shelly likes that one too. It's my HG. A little too dark but can make it work
The IT CC cream oxidizes on my skin. Looks great going on, but after about 10 minutes, it goes fairly orange on me 😩
Nice and natural. On my TV, the color looks fine on your skin.
Shelly, have you tried the Marshmellow primer by NYX? I got a small tube, and am absolutely loving it! ❤
Oooh I have not - I will have to grab it! Thanks, Rene!!
@@goow it smells amazing. A bit pricey for NYX, but like all drugstore brands, their prices keep going up.
I'm currently using their CC cream.
That’s what I have. I love the cc cream
Hi!! Shelly, hope you are doing well miss your video Friday night 🥰😍
@@goow Thank you!! Beautiful Shelly 😍
So if u had to choose.....which do u like better between this one and the Clinique Serum Foundation that came out a little while back???
I'd probably go with the serum foundation only because my personal preference is more coverage - but the reason would be coverage preference and not that one is a better product than the other. I think I'd equally recommend them depending on your coverage preference.
I think you'd really like Smashbox Halo tinted moisturizer.
That's a good one!! I have it in 2 shades. There is more coverage in the Smashbox Halo, than in most tinted moisturizers, for those who might be interested. 👌🏼
@@KaraLey98 Yes that's so true. And there's 40ml so every though it's expensive, you get more product. 🙂
@@jenn8459 Yes! Hope Shelly can review this one after her trip to LasVegas☺
@@KaraLey98 That would be great 😃
Hi Shelley tbh Clinique has never catered well to the pale skinned in all the years they've been around. A year or so ago they brought out a couple of paler shades in their most popular foundation, but it still wasn't light enough for my extremely pale skin. For reference I'm C0 in Mac F&B, 0.5 in Revolution and 008/091 in Lancome teint idole - so very fair/pale. It doesn't surprise me how dark this "light" shade is. That is why I have never bought a complexion product from them, although some of their colour cosmetics are nice. In an era where diversity is being acknowledged and some base products are available in 40 shades upwards - seven shades is dire. Even for a sheer product, seven shades are never going to be enough to cover everyone. It's a miss for me. It looks fine on you, especially on camera with all the lighting. It didn't look as good in natural light and was more obvious it was the wrong shade. Perhaps it would be a good mixer base product to darken up some Winter shades you own? Best wishes.
Yes this would definitely be way too dark on you, Loraine! I think I'll be able to hang on to it as a mixer like you said or if I go with a heavier powder foundation it could be a base. Or if I ever get around to self tanning, though I didn't bother last summer!
@@goow I rarely if ever self tan tbh - I just accept being pale. Summer is the only time I even use a small amount of bronzer lol. The rest of the year I shape my face with minimal contour and some blush. x
I just wish they were cruelty free.
I know the shade is much darker but it makes you look like straight outta Bali or something. You gotta fake it if you can’t make it 🤔
Have you ever tested a foundation that was so noticeably bad that your students or mom commented on it?
One time, I was wearing a foundation I was testing to work on campus (pre-pandemic). I had the yearbook team coming to my office that afternoon for a photo shoot because they were doing a little section on me, and my foundation was AWFUL. When they came in I said, "I know my makeup is awful... I'm testing a new foundation... so we can take some pictures of me on the computer without showing my face if you want." They were polite and said "no, no everything is fine!" But.... they ended up using a shot of the back of my head in the yearbook. 😂😂😂
Geek Out of Water That is hilarious! I always wondered bc it seems most who do full day testing don’t have jobs outside of the house and can choose to show their face in public or not. You’re a stronger lady than I am for braving the world! I don’t care what people think but I hate uncomfortable foundation and would be stuck dealing with itching and pulling in sure
Color range is terrible. Everyone is making sheer tints...
