I came up with a term that we can use to describe a certain kind of pernicious behavior. Vicarious victimhood. This describes people who feel the need to play the victim, but have never actually been victimized, so instead they choose to experience it vicariously through others that they perceive as marginalized. This vicarious victimhood feeds directly into empty virtue signaling.

Victimhood itself has become a source of privilege in American life. People feel entitled to literally 5 million dollar pay outs because they perceive themselves as victims and those ludicrous beliefs garner attention from public officials as legitimate.

      Weaponized victimhood.
The ability to use perceived oppression as a tool/weapon for one's own personal benefit.
"Vicarious victimhood" - thus confers the ability for one who has not been oppressed to LEECH onto that "bandwagon" in order to gain that "tool".
(Yes, that was a deliberate intent to equate them to parasites.)
For some people, however, there is a built-in "karma"...
Most people who convince themselves that they are somehow oppressed WILL be oppressed... by their own internal reactions to their self-delusion.
Unfortunately, this is also true of people who ALLOW themselves to BE convinced (by others) of their oppressed status.
      As the meme goes...

She said something extremely important that gets glossed over -- which is: You come up with an 'unpopular' finding and the reaction is "This is bad research" ..... this is the silver bullet problem in peer-review (at least in the humanities and social sciences). If your findings are in-line with the narrative favored by the peerage ... you have a chance to publish (which is everything for your career). If you find something that runs counter to that narrative .... you won't make out it of that review. You'll be told there's some methodological problem with your work.

These institutes and their tightly held beliefs are no better than many religious doctrines of old and alive today. It’s a shame. We can’t connect with our past and have a honest discussion on the human ape to inform our future. It seems evolutionary psychology may just go underground until a more open minded paradigm emerges.

Interesting conversation. As someone in academia and psychology, a lot of this is very recognizable. There is this weird culture where female academics are given all the priviliges and advantages, while still being seen as the victims and oppressed group. Both men and women overwhelmingly participate in this illusion.
I've done a few (five I think) job interviews for after my phd and I couldn't help noticing that all the comittees that interviewed me were either 100% or at least 80% female. In the building I work there are posters that say "no means no" regarding sexual conduct or other such matters, I checked the stats in the area I live, sexual harassment is extremely rare here, as my experience indicates as well. Which is why I always found these posters so odd, probably a HR decision. The HR department has tried to equalize the number of male and female student in computer science more by reducing sexism (of which there is no indication) for over 5 years now, without any success. There were many programs available during my phd that were only available to women. And I could give many more examples like this. I don't necesarrily mind it either, I was never obstructed in my own work because of being a man, but it always seemed really odd to me that my female and male colleagues still really wanted to participate in this victimhood role of women in academia. It seems like a complete delusion to me.

I haven’t watched the video yet, but your comment caught my attention. My 3 daughters all had talents that would lend themselves to high earning stem fields. I offered instruction and tools for this. None were interested and are pursuing lower wage careers. They had posters all over their schools encouraging them to get into these fields, they just aren’t interested. Wage gap indeed… in my degree program there were 3 tracks. 2 were technical and paid well. 1 was neither techy nor highly paid. Our program was charitably 10% women. Not a single one picked the high earning tech tracks. When asked, “I’m not interested in that”. Fast forward many years and a disconcerting percentage are complaining about salary and the patriarchy. Sigh…

Male here to say what I don’t say publicly. I teach in academia currently and I don’t talk in meetings. I no longer chit chat with faculty in the halls. If I talk to other male teachers we close the door to our office and talk quietly. In class I act as if I’m into the current thing and my marks have gone way up. The other male teachers pretty much do the same thing. Last year a male teacher marked according to what they thought would be industry standards for their subject. This year his contract wasn’t renewed.
Us male instructors are seeing our academic careers as a job, show up, punch the clock, keep our mouths shut. Our school is now 80% female students. Over half identify as LGBTQ+. We’re constantly told by students that we’re privileged, oppressive and our interests are only valid is we act accordingly. Or hiring policies openly say they favour marginalized people, white makes need not apply.

Non-academic here. But I am curious about lesbians and gay people. Had a few friends who were gay. Someone in this thread made a comment on, apparently there are lots of lesbians in academia. 🤔I've observed similar things on sexuality and human achievement. I tried to figure out why some people are gay or lesbian, putting together a few things I've noticed, over the years. My idea is 2 words as a new concept: gay privilege.
Here's my lay guess, how that make sense:
Are gays and lesbians actually privileged now?
My argument: Gay & lesbian Americans have higher incomes than straights, higher education levels than straights. Like lesbians in academia. Why is that?
There is some evidence of higher IQs in those lesbian and gay populations, than the general norm. Why is that? A high level woman soccer (football) player I know (straight girl) told me lesbians at the high end of woman's sports, are vastly over-represented. 🤔Why this lesbian sports pattern? My guess is, something is going on, biologically....that needs to be unpacked by academics, if we are to get past our biases.
I read an old article on Breitbart by Milo Yinnopoulos, "Sorry girls, all the smartest people in the world are all men." (searchable online) He says the evidence says gender and IQ are related. But not in the way people think. On average, there is no real difference in male female IQ....except on the high and low end. Basically men have more geniuses, more idiots. So the math balances.
Milo is gay, his opinion seems to be the reason for extremely high IQ people being mostly male, even though the genders general IQ is equal, is that nature takes more chances on men, tries new formulas out in evolution. You see the same thing in other species: for instance in birds, beak size varies more in bird males, than bird females.
Feminist Camille Paglia put it this way: "The reason there are are more male geniuses, more male Mozarts than female ones, is there are more male Jack the Rippers." In other words, evolution rolls the dice on males, more than females Tries new things, genetically. That may also explain why 98% of the homeless are males: more male losers, as Mother Nature rolls the dice, often fails.
That risk taking rolling of the dice by nature is far less common in females, than males, apparently. Thus female IQ tends to cluster around the middle, whereas even though men and women as groups are the same in IQ, you get far more low IQ Homer Simpson males than females, who tend to be mostly Marge Simpsons. As well as more dumb Homer males, you get more high IQ Mozart males as a mathematical compliment, to keep the genders equal, in the math of evolution.
My guess is, gay men in particular, are nature trying out new biological formulas, getting some things right, like higher IQ, but other things that don't work, like no attraction to the other gender. Thus I've long thought the idea of condemning males for being gay, was absurd. Lesbians? More of the same, but less common than gay men. That may explain why so many high achieving lesbians are in academia and on the soccer pitch.
I think to win acceptance for sexual minorities, the truth has to finally win the day. If a good evidence based case can be made, based on science for what I said, a lot fewer people would come up with their nonsense prejudiced views on gay people. But in the mean time, if I'm right, people will be angry, if this is true. Why?
As my favorite comedian the late George Carlin once said, "The truth shall set you free. But first, it will piss you off."
Strangely enough, the people who generally oppose such research into the origins of sexuality and IQ, which might actually vindicate gay people, tend to often be gay people or their allies....all for "harm avoidance". I don't think there is anything to fear. Except ignorance.
If I am correct in my speculation, then yes of course, gays were discriminated against heavily in history. The gay theorists are right about that. But at same time gays and lesbians are likely now over represented at university and in the media and in positions of power and wealth and influence now, based on higher IQ levels...thus Gay Privilege.
I think the creators of Family Guy already know this. They have some pretty funny cartoons of gay rich people. Cheers. 🍻🍺

I'm a Boomer. I can confirm that there used to be a bias in hiring for "traditionally" male jobs. But there were reasons for it, and it wasn't limited to women. One example I can point to is when I worked part-time at a GE warehouse in Sacramento, CA. There was another part-time guy there as well. A full-time job came up as a lift truck operator. They gave him the job. When I asked why they told me that he was married and needed the job more than me. This is also why men used to get preference over women. Men were seen as the main "breadwinner" for the family and wives working was an option. Feminism ridiculed homemaking to death and demanded equal hiring laws, which really meant that many men would become deadbeat dads. Later in 1974, when I was working at a speaker factory in the woodshop making cabinets, I was displaced by a woman who complained that there were no women in the cabinet shop. So I was tossed out of that position. I floated from department to department doing fill in work until I was laid off later on that year. It was a year and a half before I found another job. I ended up going back to college and getting a grad degree. But when I went to apply for a small business loan I was flat-out told that being a white male was not a desirable attribute for getting into the program. And it just piled on over the decades.

when all these men came home, solutions were made and put in place. government subsitites, huge chunks of women joining the work force. took on and over farm fields. picking crops and what not..
the men couldn't just take their womens places in all these positions. so they came home, not needed or nearly as much. time went on where men now not pulling their weight as they use to, in the eyes of their women, making their women take them as a joke and a not needed extra body in the house.
this flip flopped the mass of mens roles basically. now we are seeing the full effects of the reversal.
reminds me of the fight for human rights for all. that in general everyone and life has the same value, prior to that....everyone outside of a royalty structure, was and could be a slave and or peasant. in terms of the fight, this is what men are finding themselves doing all over again but now, just for their own gender.
when we did this together, we learned along the way. what fit and worked best of the role of man and a woman.
this can only actually lead to some sort of civil war between the two. and a major over correction will likely happen i bet. where these men battered by society and their own women, turn into humas like mentalities towards women. so if that happens. welp, they brong it on themselves. well with a good deal of democrat party help.
a woman declaring her child is not worthy of birth and life, funny enough....wipes out all progress towards human rights that we all made and we be starting over from that stand point. killing their babies is oddly enough, lop sided. wanted boys over girls, in a womans mind, still knowing the boy holds more value in the household. so i expect a ongoing decline of girl babies being born amongst these abortions they performing on mass scale now days.
if or when that happens, is likely the generations to fallow of now majority men, will start regaining their position on the hierarchy. might not be a humas like mentality, but i bet not far from it. considering the fact that the men in them coming generations, will eventually pull the majority in political positions and power, will really push society into that direction.

This was a very valuable interview for me… I have been listening for several months about the concerns in universities about censorship and silencing voices that are controversial. I couldn’t understand what the shift was. I am a 71 year old woman who went to university in the late 60s and the mid-80s. And the staff was predominantly male. and the focus was finding as much truth as possible… Philosophically and scientifically.
It is stunning to realize that since the proportions of male to female in the teaching ranks, as well as the student ranks, has so shifted towards female that focus and thrust of going to university is now agreeableness.
Trigger warnings, refusing to invite, controversial speakers, canceling presentations. These were unheard of when I was in university. Part of what was important was the presence of disparate viewpoints and expression.
Being around people who you disagree with, but can explain themselves in depth and cogently, is what teaches us to communicate, and to listen, effectively. And currently in this US culture we’re seeing more and more How people no longer know how to listen to one another.
Thank you this was very insightful for me.

I've wondered for years if the claims from women about sexism stem from actual sexism or if it's men sniffing out a tendency toward whininess and laziness and steering clear. I think the early feminists understood better than the current crop that to do things associated with men meant you had to take on the toughness of men. Now it seems that women want the male power at their convenience but than hand off the dirty stuff.
I went for a natural sciences degree and had three female professors in the area, and perhaps it's hypocritical, but I thought none of them were good at their jobs. I seriously learned more from my male profs. I'm afraid this feelings, feelings, feelings agenda is invading even things like computer science, engineering, and chemistry. I don't think the likes of Elizabeth Blackwell, Marie Curie, and Lise Meitner pushed for this sort of inclusivity. And it's being determined by others who don't have a clue what it entails. Performance and efficiency have traditionally been compensated better. If the slackers on your left and right aren't pulling their weight and are still getting paid the same or better; what motivations do you have to work hard or strive for excellence? Doubly so if they are being paid better simply because they are different gender or race. Growing up in the 80's and 90's, I was always taught that none of that mattered. I don't view the past "misogyny" as exploitation so much as infantilization. Men in the past more treated women like children rather than a subclass to be used and exploited. eg the phrase "women and children first" would not have become a thing if men just viewed women as inferior and of less value. Men are instinctually protective of women while they are not instinctually protective of other men. This is something feminism gets very wrong. They're attacking men for being over protective in the modern world, while believing men intend them harm which is not just false but 100% opposite of reality. imo we evolved to be this way because it was necessary in a state of nature for men to play the role of "protector" for the group including if it meant sacrificing their lives for their tribe/family. I also believe this is why women's voices don't change - it was evolutionarily to reinforce the authoritarian role of protector among men back when it made evolutionary sense to do so.
This is a deep and complicated topic which imo our western society (especially the english speaking countries) is totally deluded about, and unfortunately this delusion is getting strongly reinforced in academia by people (both men and women) who are giving in to their biases of being protective of women, rather than letting scientific research happen in the areas of gender studies in an unbiased way.
At some point in the future there will be a reckoning for this and I believe the (feminist) academics who have been pushing their biases rather than actual unbiased research will not be remembered fondly in the future and there will be a lot of angry men, primarily on the left, when they realize just much modern feminism has transformed from a gender-equality movement to a movement that is mostly focused on (unfair) misandry and gynocentricity.

Interesting comment. There were and are cultures that did not value women. But excluding that, I don't believe it was exploitation either, at least not in western culture, and especially English speaking societies. As for protection this was certainly true in the Middle class (in the British sense) and above, but in the working class it was more difficult for men to protect women, even if that was what they were trying to do. This is the fundamental problem of feminism, it is elitist and only seeks to improve the lives of women of a certain class and above, whilst making life for working class women more difficult.

So true, during the recession in 2009 I was let go from my job. It was between myself and a newer female hire. She was awesome, super capable and lovely. Though I had more tactile experience at the time it did not matter. The culture had shifted significantly and the company made the right decision. She eventually became VP of the company. I lost everything. Two very important realizations happened for me during this time. If I wanted any kind of future I would have to work a thousand times harder than anyone else, male or female, even if I owned my own company. If men have had any inherent advantage in the past, those days are long gone. We are simply back to what we have always been, expendable workers and cannon fodder. I don't despair because the constant reminder to stay on my toes has been invaluable and the experience has strengthened my faith in God. I tell any young man who will listen to pursue excellence above all else because that will give you the only advantage you will ever have. And maybe this reality is for the best. Thank you for the excellent content Chris.

Yet I'm supposed to believe this is a patriarchy and I have all the privilege and women are basically slaves who are finally breaking the chains. It's that gaslighting that bothers me more. If you want to take over, create a matriarchy, fine, go for it, make that power play, but don't pretend you're the victim. Be upfront, say what you mean, have some honor.

While I agree that young men should pursue excellence, a society should provide those that perform their tasks with enough incentives to continue doing that and guarantee long term stability.
Not everyone can achieve the same things and as the demands start increasing, a lot of people will not be able to experience enough success to remain invested in society.
So a certain amount of fairness is necessary to make sure a large enough amount of people can have some success.

In Dutch we have the expression "Soft healers make for stinking wounds" meaning that if you don't want to make the optimal but difficult choice to prevent the hurt caused by that choice the end result could be worse. A surgeon that refuses to amputate a badly wounded and infected limb because he/she feels sad for that patient having to go through life without that limb runs the very real risk that patient will no longer have a life to live.
Men will cut off that limb without a second thought, women not so much.
Society - including science - is rapidly going down the drain because women have gained too much power and are not willing to make the difficult decisions in order to prevent perceived harm without eye for the possible benefits.

Concerning truth, I recently rewatched an episode of _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ ("Rightful Heir") that handled it really well. I'll try to describe it as briefly as possible: one character, Liutenant Worf, discovers that a person he thought was the second coming of a legendary hero to the klingons was actually just a clone. First, he is asked to keep this secret from the current klingon leader, but decides to tell him the truth.
Then, while discussing the threat of a civil war between two factions - between those loyal to the current leader and those who would follow the legendary figure -, Worf comes with a compromising solution: to go public about the clone, with complete honesty about it, so that he (the clone) could be seen not as a second coming, but as a rightful heir to the old hero, allowing him to become an emperor - but with the current leader retaining all the actual power.
In other words, the episode revolves around the temptations of going along with a lie for supposedly good reasons, but Worf finds the best solution for everyone through standing firmly on the side of truth at every step. A really good message, well delivered.

You wont get her back by being needy. I know it's hard mate but give yourself say 6 months single. Absence can make the heart grow fonder but it is still possible she would have fully moved on by then....or not. Without the benefit of hearing both sides of why the relationship broke down I can't say much else except do more things that focus on YOU rather than her and if you still have any of her stuff at your place then box it up temporarily to remove any chance that you will be reminded on the days that you AREN'T thinking about her for a short time. That includes digital photos. Store them on an external HD and if things workout between you two later on then you can always retrieve them.
      Goodluck!

OK, let's talk about academic culture. In 1977, I ran a number of random correlates as part of a social science research class at Syracuse. Random correlates. One hit pay dirt, and my professor got very excited. He wanted me to publish, and instructed me to "make up and explanation". It has only gotten exponentially worse. Regarding forbidden topics? The Leftist takeover of the mental health professions is now complete. #1. You may not suggest that children being mutilated is anything but "care". As a therapist, you can now lose your license for suggesting that kids grow out of gender dysphoria. They do. #2. You may not suggest that perennially claiming to be a victim is unhealthy. #3. You may not suggest that racism against white people, Jews, or Asians is racism. #4. You may not suggest that freedom of speech is a higher value than "not being offended". #5. You may not suggest that viewpoint diversity should be a part of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and God Forbid, should you point out that merit matters. Those are my five. Great discussion nonetheless.

I can turn the accent on and off depending on who I'm with and what I'm doing. When I'm with friends, I'll use Geordie slang a lot, but when I'm working or speaking to someone from a different country or region, I drop the slang and speak proper English. Like the American, Australian and Canadian research in the 90's that identified 70% of abusers are women, that disappeared under the campus rug. Or that 80's research that after redefining domestic violence to include yelling proclaimed children from "domestic violence" environments were deemed to be at risk of the father. There were a lot of women who played that card in the family court and not only gained custody of their children but were able to block access and in many many cases poisoned the relationships. Millions of children throughout the west grew up fatherless. Even today 40 years later between 50 and 60% of young men in our maximum security prisons were raised without a substantive male in their lives. How many father's took their own lives because of the loss of their children's love. It was 22 years later that this academics paper was reviewed by a student and the major flaws were highlighted. The study was again undertaken and the conclusion was that children other than in exceptional circumstances were not at risk. Efforts to correct the lie have delivered few fair results for men, especially for men who blindly walk back in to an abusive relationship on the belief as conveyed to them by society it was all their fault.
The price when influential people are able to create a social construct on campus by simply changing the meaning of a word then turn it on society. Haven't we ignored that piece of repeating history long enough? The 5% do not equste to the whole ! Even today there are many fabricated social constructs that people cannot see and you won't because speech that effects perception is now controlled by nothing more than controlled silence. If it was simply just childcare you'd have a point but the issue is the child support that gets allocated relative to the mans income. You'll have a family and the cost of kids will be a few hundred bucks a month for food and upkeep but then the divorce happens and all of a sudden the guy whos making 100k a year, now has to pay 30k+ in child support and there's no auditing process for how any of the money is spent. If there's any shot for a guy to be able to just hand over some money and buy the kids stuff they need, instead of the court setting that (they take a cut) then it will nearly always be the preferred option.

I know a lot of the information discussed here was about men vs women, and that may in fact be crucial, but if you just read Intellectuals and Society by Thomas Sowell (and I have heard he says the same things in The Vision of the Annointed and The Quest for Cosmic Justice), many of the points you two are emphasizing are elucidated very clearly.
Specifically, the point about the fact that if the wellbeing of the disadvantaged were truly the main concern of those who share the anointed vision (wokeism and proto wokeism), then their main activity would be trying to ascertain what helps the downtrodden, and first and foremost, they would find that markets and commerce help the poor of all countries across the world, but they don't look into it at all empirically.
The main historical proponents of the vision of the anointed have all been men going back to the late 17th century, but that's because only men wrote like that back then. This vision began taking over large swathes of American legal thought on federal court decisions starting in the 1920s and 30s, and it was still all men back then. The women thing may speed it up, but they have been on the rise for a very long time now.

What's really interesting is that women have a tendency of focusing on inductive reasoning and experience. This means that they have a larger base of common-sense about the environments that they are currently within. Whereas men focus more on deductive reasoning, which acts as a "true function" which allows for an accurate understanding of the world.
Long stories oversimplify, women are good at determining the most valuable (cost/benefit) environments to be in, and men tend to analyze and alter so that they can make environments more valuable (less cost/more benefit). Effectively this means that women help induce survival for our species, and men help induced thriving for our species.
Donald Hoffman's theorem on "fitness beats truth" demonstrates that a little bit of delusion is actually more beneficial for a species to survive, than a strict adherence to the truth.
I suspect that we as a species are sexually dimorphic (men and women are different) in order to allow us to *survive* and *thrive,* when working in harmony together.
The protection from harm is a threshold issue. Knowing the truth is actually less beneficial in general. But, for specific cases that are above a generalized threshold, the truth becomes more vital. It's a lot like... Perfection being the enemy of good. Generalized information, common sense, that would be good enough for everyday survival. And perfect would be the fundamental truth of the world.
Common Sense covers the general, and Truth covers the abnormal and extraneous things. It's the good enough versus the 12-page analyzation.
1.) Women take a good enough, how is everyone feeling today? kind of attitude.
2.) Whereas men tend towards a methodical and detailed 12-page explanation on the ins-and-outs of how that is done properly... And when done properly the steps to take to properly finish, if environmental properties elicit a blah blah blah blah blah.....

I was raised to have analytical conversations at the dinner table and was always purely naturally curious about observing science and nature. I devoured books on weather and wrote my own picture guide book on cloud species in middle school, observed and identified the protists in the water in my mom's potted plants in a microscope, and desperately built things that could fly (kites, planes, parachutes) around my neighborhood. I explored being a human intellect and experience with pure humility and curiosity, which was, quite characteristically, not engendered, but ultimately human. I live in New Zealand. We have Maori and also Pacific Island groups. They do not do as well in society as the Indians and the Asians. I was thinking about this and I am of the belief that different cultures exhibit different traits. The Asian and Indian groups know the real value of money and saving, and investing, and investing in their childrens education and the importance of a cohesive family unit. I am sure this is why the Indian and Asian groups are much more sucessful in our western society.

I was reminded when she was talking about so many of the Uni progressives being upper class, well educated white women, of the punk scene back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. An overwhelming majority of the American punk groups came from Orange County California. Which is a super well to do area of America. Something to think on.

The thing about this trend in academia (if you can even still call it that) is that it promotes and creates total dysfunction of the subject (any subject) it infects. The discipline of history has been being affected for perhaps the longest because it was an avenue to attack for getting women more control of academia to begin with.

This was soooo good. Wow you two. I really appreciate what guy said here around 45 min in about the equalization of the sexes hurting women. I'm 40 & I've watched it decline slowly my whole adult life. It almost reversed too much. Like if you are abused, you must have deserved it. It's definitely had a horrible impact & it's something I've thought or talked about many times. Like if things had happened a decade or 2 earlier how differently it would have been. I see a shift so much to the opposite a lot of popular people even, act as if there are no abused women & they're all lying & all men are great. Only women mess them up... It's like the twilight zone. Am I the only one hearing this stuff more & more? All the one sex is all good and one is all bad. It's like this is how victims (real ones) stay victims. It really needs to be course correctly strongly. We're a lost society. I see men defending the worst of women if they defend anyone. Take for example that woman on the American Airlines flight. Actual crazy women who PRETEND to be victims get the help or defense. But real victims? Pfft you deserved it (when you never once did). I feel like I should be 80 or 90 to see society change SO much in SUCH a short time. Imo everything really changed quicker after Obama was elected. I voted for him twice. He did promise change. Anyway, thanks for doing this. Really much needed. Wondering if you have some like this on psychopaths & sociopaths. Subbed!

I haven't finished watching yet. I've liked most of what Cory has said, however, as a woman who worked as a Sessional Academic for a School of Psychology in a university, I had no problem with giving undergraduate students low marks or failing them, but the marking criterias were designed to pass everyone. They had to write complete gibberish for us to be able to fail them. I was even asked to remark some assignments because my average mark was too low. The marking criterias were designed by men too.
Edit: I'm also egalitarian, so if you do equally as well as another student on the assignment, you should get the same high grade. But if your assignment was rubbish, I don't think you should get the same high grade just because you submitted the assignment. I think there are different definitions of egalitarianism, and believing that all people deserve equal treatment doesn't mean that you feel that a criminal should enjoy the freedom of an innocent person, for example. It means that two people who commit the same crime should receive the same sentence, regardless of class, gender, race, etc.
Coming back to the university and assignment marks example, universities are not really designed for teaching people. They're businesses, and there's an incentive to pass students and get them through degrees so that the university continues to get money out of them. Individual academics can be very caring people and actually care about their students, but they get pressured by the higher ups to implement things that they don't necessarily want to.
I know this whole episode was on more than just this point, but I just wanted to add my two cents about it. Oh, and other female Sessionals also wanted to fail students hahah. To be clear, the quality of students' work is pretty bad.

The people who say spreading negative stereotypes is shameful / harmful
behaviour typically haven't interacted with those that the stereotype is of
I worked in a place that was almost 50% vietnamese and almost 50% Sicilian
(which was hell on my back, being 6'2" - all the benches were so low)
The stuff they would say to each other was hilarious (and would be utterly
condemned by the people who condemn spreading of negative stereotypes)
    - ugh, they're all so-and-so, Australia would be so much better if we didn't let
them in (from 1st generation immigrants 🤣), etc, etc
If you just read a transcript of what was said during any given day, you'd think
    they detested each other
If you looked at how they interacted (including the way in which they said these
things to each other) you'd see the clear love they had for each other

I wish there was a portal I could step through to see that. Did you ever partake in the volley? It reminds me of how my brother and I relate to each other. Well, I tend to volley more insults than he does, but he appreciates a good zinger. He was talking in a group that involved two of our cousins, one of which is studying Spanish informally. My brother said that he spews mierde del toro in Spanish. He translated it for the non-Spanish-studying cousin (which, in case anyone who reads this needs help) as bullshit, and that cousin said, "Oh, just like when you speak English." My brother still laughs about that one.

Employment bias flipped around 2009? It flipped a hell of a lot earlier than that. Women were being explicitly headhunted way back in the 1980s. Look for the appearance of the words "women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply" in job ads.

34:40 These are good questions and Chris is having a hard time answering them. I'm sitting here almost yelling at my screen that it relates to provision and protection. If we're out trying to bring in resources for our survival, we need accurate information about those resources and the methods of collecting them. Likewise, if a lot of people are suddenly falling ill, we need accurate information about what's causing that. If there is a sudden flood, do we want accurate information about what needs to be done and who needs to do it? Or do we want to grab as many people as possible and put on a show of them 'working' equitably to dig a trench just anywhere. Show the members passing buckets along a line to nowhere just so everyone feels involved? That DOESN'T WORK!
